Life Course Patterns, Similarities and Differences of People with a Disability

This thesis deals with life courses of people with a mental disabilities living in the area of Sluknov peninsula. Qualitative research is compiled by interviews that give us a chance to peek into their lives, thoughts and opinions. The thesis is based on theoretical foundations concerning the evolution of mental disability paradigm and legislative and social progress from 1950s to present days. Then I give a summary of options how to accomodate, educate and employ people with mental disabilities in the region. Key words: mental disability, life courses, qualitative research, interviews
Listening to the voices of children with autism about their primary school experience

Listening to the voices of children about their school experience can give valuable insight on how a school can improve their practices of inclusion and plan effective programmes of learning and support. Gauging the views of children with autism is underexplored in research, especially in the primary age range. There is an increase in prevalence of children diagnosed with autism each year. It is acknowledged that children and young people with autism are one of the most vulnerable groups to be excluded at school. Trying to address the gap identified, the aim of the study was to gain the views from primary school aged children with autism about their perspectives of school. A qualitative research design was chosen as the best approach. Gathering the meanings children with autism made for themselves about the context of school was best informed by using semi - structured interviews as a methodological tool. To facilitate the interview process children could choose to take photographs or draw pictures of the way they perceived school. A small purposeful sample was drawn of four children, all with a diagnosis of autism, between the ages of seven and eleven years of age attending a range of settings in primary provision. This research study investigates the education of learners with special needs in a mainstream primary school in the Czech Republic. The concept of inclusive education is the focus in this study. There is diversity in what inclusive education means depending on different contexts but its purpose and goal is the accommodation of learnerswith special needs in mainstream primary schools in the best practical way possible. This research study was motivated by the fact that, I am a Kenyan primary school teacher practising inclusive education in my school and my aim is to grow in the career byequipping myself with related knowledge and skills to impact to the Kenyan child with special needs. Role of volunteers in leisure activities of people with disabilities

The aim of the thesis is to determine the role of volunteers in fulfilling leisure time persons with disabilities and to compare it with educational role of educators. The survey was done by qualitative research using case studies. Data collection was conducted using the methodology of the interview guide. The survey covered a total of seven people with disabilities. The survey results show that respondents in volunteers prefer positive prosocial oriented features (empathy, openness, desire to help, etc.). Furthermore perceive informal character roles volunteers. In most cases they accept as a friend. Some perceive volunteers as people who support them to meet their needs. Respondents with the volunteers devote collectively organized activities (trips, cultural events, traditional festivals, summer camps, etc.). The role of volunteers and educators perceive similary - in the preparation and organization of activities. Not in relation informality. Educators ranks in the school environment and in most cases they occupy a formal relationship. Volunteer in leisure activities of persons with disabilities complements and builds upon the activity of educators.
Effect of music therapy for neurorehabilitation and educational rehabilitation of persons after brain injury in the context of quality of life

The thesis focuses on examining the effect of music therapy on the perception of quality of life in patients after acquired brain damage and strokes within the complex neurorehabilitation process. The results of combined research are presented. The quantitative part of the study is based on a group of 100 people who attended a day care centre at the Department of Rehabilitation Medicine of the 1st Faculty of Medicine at Charles University and the General Teaching Hospital in Prague from 2006 to 2012. Input and output measu- rements according to the FIM methodology were carried out with these persons and the data were statistically analyzed in relation to other evaluated parameters. The qualitative part of the study processes the results of semitemplated interviews with 15 people (who also participated in the quantitative study) while the perception of music therapy is evaluated by a procedure inspired by grounded theory. The results of the combined research show that music therapy plays an important role in the rehabilitation process for persons with acquired brain injury (ABI). TITLE: Employing people with a Mild mental retardation in IT company environment - case study AUTHOR: Hana Stříhavková DEPARTMENT: Special Education Department SUPERVISOR: doc. PhDr. Jan Šiška, Ph.D. ABSTRACT: This thesis is focused on the employment of people with Mild mental retardation in an IT company particularly related to potential positions and job content. The aim is to identify employment opportunities for people with Mild mental retardation, to define the obstacles and to suggest possible solution for the company. The theoretical basis for the thesis is classification of mental retardation, options to involve people with Mild mental retardation in the work process and rules for employment of people with disabilities on the open labour market. There was used empirical - analytical approach, comparison and semi-structured interview. The outcome of the research is that it is impossible to hire an employee with Mild mental retardation but a practice can be organized. Applied cognitive behavioral analysis as an effective tool for the development of of communication skills and problem solving behavior in adolescents diagnosed with Asperger Syndrome

This Rigorosum Thesis work puts mind to questions how to effectively work with adolescents they were diagnosed with Aspereger's Syndrome. Based on author-led concrete development project, it proves the high efficiency of cognitive behavior techniques for the social learning and the training and improvement of communication skills or additionally for problem behavior solving. Together with those frequently used tools it shows other opportunities how to raise efficiency - especially of Kaizen principles application and of some Neuro-Linguistic- Programming techniques. Theoretical starting points are Structured Learning principles, Applied Behavior Analysis or more precisely Cognitive Behavior Therapy tools, Kirkpatrick four- level model of training processes effectiveness measurement, especially focused on the third level that means target group behavior changes on the daily basis, and Kaizen as a maker of extensive changes through continuous improvement which is frequently used so far for continuous improvement in industry. The efficiency of the author developed and led project is certified by 360degree feedback based on the competence model of one concrete secondary grammar school in Czech Republic which is opening to integrate students with diagnosed autistic spectrum disorders.
