What is the reraction of plant saccharide status to enhanced CO2 concentration in the atmosphere?
Bardoňová, Radka ; Lipavská, Helena (advisor) ; Lhotáková, Zuzana (referee)
During last 200 years, the concentration of carbon dioxide (CO2), one of the most important greenhouse gasses, has significantly increased. It is assumed, that by the end of this century, the concentration of CO2 will be as much as two times higher than nowadays. The changes in atmospheric concentration of CO2 are largely caused by human activity. Both direct and indirect effects of CO2 lead to changes on every level of plant body, from changes in gene expression, through changes in physiology and anatomy, to whole-plant morphology changes. Understanding of these changes and relationships between them is necessary for our conception of future 'greenhouse' world and preparation for the life in it. Growth under elevated CO2 conditions generally leads to increase of the assimilation rate. The increase in the amount of fixed carbon then usually causes an increase in carbon to nitrogen ratio and changes in carbohydrate levels in plants. A common phenomenon related to growth at elevated CO2 concentration is an excessive accumulation of nonstructural carbohydrates in leaves. This accumulation can be associated with down-regulation of photosynthesis. However, changes in carbohydrate levels can occur in other plant parts. This Bachelor thesis is focused mostly on woody species. As perennials with secondary...

Detection of extended-spectrum beta-lactamase (ESBL) producers in community and in a hospital
POLENOVÁ, Lucie
The incidence of bacteria resistant to available antibiotics has become an important problem. Statistics show the rising number of resistant bacteria worldwide. Bacteria have ability to be resistant naturally or they develop from point mutation of genes and relay it between species or kinds. The study was made because of significance and relevance of this problem. In theoretical part the study is focused on the functional parts of bacterial cell, which participate in mechanisms of resistance. Beta - lactam antibiotics are described in more detail. The research took place in Hospital České Budějovice, a. s. during 2013. The study aimed to determine the frequency of ESBL positive producers in this hospital and to compare with frequency in community, and to identify units with highest frequency of ESBL producers. Pathogens are isolated from clinical material, being delivered to bacteriology lab in Hospital České Budějovice, a. s. Resistant samples were examined with double disc synergy test (DDST) and quantitative method based on principle of minimal inhibition concentration in combination with chromogenic agar. The prevalence rate of ESBL producers is average to low in Hospital České Budějovice, a. s. During 2013, 12, 347 isolates were identified, ESBL production was identified in 226 isolates. Escherichia coli (183 isolates), Klebsiella pneumoniae (16 isolates), and Enterobacter cloacae (15 isolates) were the most prevalent species. The number of ESBL producers was lower compared to 2012, 2011, and 2010.

The role of the nurse is to aid in the improvement of the quality of life for children who have been through meningitis
ŠPAČKOVÁ, Jana
The role of the nurse is to aid in the improvement of the quality of life for children who have been through meningitis. In recent years, the issue of quality of life has become of interest in many disciplines and the general public. In health care, the quality of life is known as HRQoL - Health Related Quality of Life - loosely translated as ?the quality of life related to health?. The term of ?diagnostic quality of life in children and adolescents? is primarily used for the area of professional health care and it is an important indicator of disease severity and the outcomes of provided care. The objective of this thesis was to assess the quality of life of children who have been through meningitis, to identify the main areas in which the quality of life of these children is reduced, and to suggest nursing interventions aimed at improvements. The data collection took place in the period November 2009 - June 2010 at the Clinic for Childhood Infectious Diseases, University Hospital Brno. A qualitative research used the technique of studying written documents and, subsequently, non-standardized in-depth interviews with respondents were carried out. Prior the beginning of the qualitative survey, five research questions were established. Question 1: What kind of care and what interventions do children expect from nurses? Question 2: What kind of care and what interventions do parents expect from nurses? Question 3: How to evaluate subjectively the quality of children?s? life after meningitis as compared to the state prior the disease? Question 4: How do parents see the quality of life of their child after meningitis as compared to the state prior the disease? Question 5: In which areas is the quality of children?s life reduced most? Question 6: What nursing interventions can help nurses to improve the children?s lives? All of the questions were answered using a quantitative research method involving a standardized questionnaire named ?HEALTH AND SATISFACTION QUESTIONNAIRE?. This questionnaire is used in the project ?QOLOP? ? Quality of Life Longitudinal Study of Paediatric Oncology Patients. Hypothesis H 1 was defined prior the start of the quantitative research: The quality of life of children who have been through meningitis is lower than in healthy children. This hypothesis was not confirmed. It is clear, from what has been mentioned above, that the objective of this thesis has been met. This project will be useful in practice. The generated ?Algorithm of Initial Care for a Child with Meningitis? and ?Subsequent Care of a Child with Meningitis? should help nurses orientate and identify the basic needs of children with this disease. Moreover, this thesis can be used as a theoretical basis for the education of nursing students.
