The last drop - a series of articles about alcohol
Černá, Anna ; Trunečka, Ondřej (advisor) ; Čeňková, Jana (referee)
The Czech Republic is among countries with the highest alcohol consumption per capita. Alcohol is widely spread and tolerated in Czech society, and both public debate and media fail to reflect its negative effects. Therefore, excessive alcohol use and addiction have become taboo topics with many prejudices and stereotypes. The aim of this bachelor's thesis is to create a series of articles that address some less-discussed issues related to alcohol consumption. The theoretical part of the thesis focuses on alcohol addiction, its impacts and treatment. It then analyses the media coverage of the issue, highlighting its shortcomings and offering possible improvements. Special attention is paid to the concept of social journalism as a tool for handling various social problems. The methodological part specifies the journalistic genres (interview, feature, and commentary) used in the practical part. It also describes the creation of the series of articles, choice of topics, interviewees, use of information, and ethical problems that arose during writing. Finally, the practical part of the thesis consists of five texts which address mental health, the relationship between children and alcohol, Czech beer culture, gender aspects of alcohol consumption, and abstinence.

Červenková, Nikola ; Mravčík, Viktor (advisor) ; Koutská, Kateřina Olga (referee)
Background: The Czech Republic has traditionally been perceived as a country with a relatively high availability of addictive substances for minors, which is also reflected in the results of control studies. The Internet is an important market environment and medium through which so called distance selling takes place. There are legal obligations to verify age in distance selling, but the extent and application of these obligations are not sufficiently described. Aim: The aim of this master's thesis was to find out how sellers of alcoholic beverages verify the age of shoppers and whether sellers of tobacco products etc. use a computer system that clearly verifies the age of the shopper. A sub-objective was to find out what the shipping options are when an order is placed and whether there is re-verification of the shopper's age when the goods are handed over. Methodology and material: The research set consisted of 30 online e-shops offering alcohol and 30 e-shops offering tobacco products. The selection was done in a regular internet environment, using search strings. The e-shops where control purchases were made were randomly selected from the list of analysed e-shops. Results: The research shows that alcohol and tobacco sellers do not sufficiently comply with all legal obligations. Only about...

It consisted of 29 closed questions, and it was possible to choose only one answer. Part of the questionnaire was also a screening tool CAGE that consisted of four questions with yes or no answers. Results: Four research questions dealing with this issue were set: 1) How many students reach a CAGE score of 3 or more, i.e. high probability of alcohol addiction? From the analysed sample 7 (5 %) of the respondents were on the border of dangerous alcohol use (CAGE score 3 or higher). 2) Is there a difference in the frequency of alcohol consumption between the students of 3. Nursing care for alcohol-intoxicated patients in the traumatology unit
VRCHLAVSKÁ, Aneta
The thesis addresses the issue of nursing care for patients intoxicated with alcohol in the trauma centre, while being divided into two parts, meaning theoretical and practical. The theoretical part focused on defining the field of traumatology, injuries, ethyl alcohol, and the connection between injuries and alcohol. It also provided a description of patient care in traumatology, the specifics of nursing care for alcohol-intoxicated patients, and communication with intoxicated patients, including communication with aggressive patients. The aim of the research part of the thesis was to describe the specifics of nursing care for alcohol-intoxicated patients and to evaluate the communication between the patient and the nurse. Qualitative research was chosen for the research part. Data collection took place through written and verbal methods in the form of semi-structured interviews in early April. Data analysis was conducted using the pen-and-paper method. Subsequently, the data were organized into a system of open coding, comprising three categories and twelve subcategories. The research sample consisted of ten general nurses working in the trauma centre, six in the standard ward, and four nurses in the intensive care unit. The results indicated that except for one nurse, the surveyed nurses regularly encounter patients intoxicated with alcohol in their workplaces. According to the statements of the informants, the most common types of traumas associated with alcohol intoxication include falls, traffic accidents, suicides, assaults, visits to catering establishments or work in construction. Furthermore, the interviews revealed that the surveyed nurses perceive differences in nursing care and communication with patients who have trauma unrelated to intoxication and vice versa. They find the approach to intoxicated patients more demanding in this regard. In the interviews, the nurses mentioned the frequent practice of dealing with aggressive, uncooperative patients. Some nurses admitted that their personal attitudes towards intoxicated patients often influence their approach to these patients. It also emerged from the interviews that the surveyed nurses are not offered any further education in this area. The obtained results provided insights into the specifics of the issue, indicating potential communication shortcomings with patients for correction. The thesis will serve as a resource for creating simulation training scenarios (Appendix 1) to educate general nurses working in the trauma centre.
