Religion Overt and Covert in Post-secular International Relations
Pur, Matěj ; Parízek, Michal (advisor) ; Karlas, Jan (referee)
Inspired by the idea of the return of religion, this thesis explores the impact of religion on international relations. The theoretical basis was post-secular theory, first outlined by Jürgen Habermas. This theory suggests that spirituality grows outside traditional institutions even as organized religion loses members. The major turning point that led to the resurgence of religion in international politics was the end of the Cold War and the subsequent process of globalization. This shift opened the door for the analysis of the influence of religion in international relations, especially after 9/11 and during the Arab Spring. This thesis focused on three main areas: the use of religious language in the UN General Assembly, voting patterns in the UN, and the survival of international alliances. An innovative methodology was used for the content analysis of the General Assembly speeches, which expanded the lexical set of religious terms. The results showed that despite the theory of secularism, representatives of states use religious language. Analysis of voting patterns revealed a statistically significant influence of religion, particularly in the context of the Palestinian conflict and human rights resolutions. Finally, analysis of alliance survival revealed that religious diversity may lead to...
Religious Roots of Comeniu's Universal Pedagogy in Via Lucis
Winkler, Nina ; Vik, Dalibor Jiří (advisor) ; Vogel, Jiří (referee)
65 Abstract The thesis examines Comenius' writing The Way of Light in the context of Comenius' universal pedagogy and religious roots. The thesis is divided into three chapters. The first chapter introduces the reader to the historical context of the writing of the work, which is related to Comenius' stay in England and his work for the Hartleb`s Circle. The second chapter introduces the reader to the content of the work and analyses it in terms of its pedagogical and religious motives. The third chapter traces the existing commentaries on the work, especially as found in Patocka`s interpretations, within his Comenius writings. The main themes and contexts with which these analyses are associated are: pansophism, pampaedia, pedagogy, chiliasm, omniscience, reform, and the syncretic method. The main aim of this thesis is to show that the writings of The Way of Light link pedagogy and religion in a specific synthesis. One of the sub-objectives is to show the writing as still relevant for today. Another aim is to see how Patocka comments on the writing, since his understanding of Comenius stems primarily from his pedagogical efforts. I am also interested in the genesis and historical context of the work, as Comenius wrote the work under specific circumstances, namely in Hartleb's circle in England. The method...

Adamčíková, Barbara ; Štolfa, Jozef (referee) ; Dulenčín, Juraj (advisor)
This thesis focuses on the design of a new synagogue in Jablonec nad Nisou, which serves not only as a religious space but also as a social and community center for the local, not exclusively Jewish, community. The project aimed to create a multifunctional building that respects the historical significance of the original site while providing a modern and functional environment for spiritual, cultural, and social activities. The architectural solution of the building utilizes modern materials and technologies, including ventilated facades with illuminated glass panels and stainless steel elements, which ensure an aesthetic look and long-term sustainability of the building. In addition to the synagogue, the project includes a kosher restaurant, community spaces, and a shared underground parking lot, all contributing to the revitalization of the urban environment. The project placed maximum emphasis on integrating the building into the historical context of the city and its abstract connection to the neighboring Glass and Costume Jewelry Museum. Great emphasis was also placed on its functional connection with the surrounding environment. The project was developed considering the specific needs of the Jewish community and includes features that support spiritual and community life, such as prayer spaces oriented towards Jerusalem, the community center itself with a library, and outdoor relaxation areas.

Dědková, Kateřina ; Šubrt, Jan (referee) ; Dulenčín, Juraj (advisor)
The subject of the bachelor thesis is the design of an motel for highway drivers in India. The building is located in the part called Kannadi in the district Pallakad nearby road National Highway 544, which is connected from the south side. Right next to the area aren’t built any other objects. The work shows the design of the alone standing building, which is divided into 4 blocks. The most of the area is used as accommodation, the other parts as restaurant and shop. The main role in designing was Indian religion and local traditions, which were inspiration in the layout and aesthetic solution of the building. The sections are connected thanks to the atrium in the middle and to the rooms in the second ground is the main entrance through the built-on gallery. All rooms are supposed to be for 2 residents and don’t include a sanitary facilities (these are common, 2 on the floor). The design is using traditional materials and the façade is made by overhanging panels from metal frame knitted by colorful cord from recycled plastic (or textile). As a result of this is possible to make people think of the pollution in the world and mainly in India. Colors refer to their religion, which are used even on their typical trucks, they should bring the protection and safety on the way before the drivers come back to the families. Panels are also used as the shading element.
Providing culturally competent care in intensive nursing care
PAĎOURKOVÁ, Aneta
Current state: The provision of culturally congruent care is a critical aspect of nursing practice in all nursing settings, with particular complexities evident within intensive care units. We encounter patients from different cultures whose health condition is critical. Consequently, nurses should have appropriate knowledge and skills to provide quality culturally sensitive care. Objective of the work: 1. To map the level of cultural competencies among nurses in intensive nursing care. Methodology: The study was conducted using a quantitative research survey. The data collection technique employed was a questionnaire. Data collection technique was a questionnaire consisting of both non-standardized and standardized sections. Research sample: The research sample consisted of nurses from the ICU, CCU and IMCU departments in hospitals in the South Bohemian region. The size of the research sample was 137 respondents. Results of the work: The research results show levels of cultural competencies in various areas of cultural awareness, cultural knowledge, and skills. Nurses demonstrate a higher level of cultural knowledge rather than cultural skills. Nurses recognize the importance of providing culturally congruent care in intensive care and acknowledge the necessity of a lifelong process of acquiring knowledge in the field of cultural competencies. The majority of nurses are able to adapt their communication style to meet the needs of the patients, thus making their communication more effective. Implications for practice: This research emphasizes the importance of culturally congruent care and cultural competency in nursing practice. The results of this study will be disseminated in a professional journal article and conferences.
Biological and social predictors and correlates of human morality
Kopecký, Robin
In this dissertation, we delve into the multifaceted domains of biological and social factors influencing human morality. The connecting element of this collection of four studies is both an interest in human morality as a traditional philosophical topic and the use of methods from empirical sciences, particularly biology, behavioural, and cognitive sciences. The first study focuses on the moral algorithms in autonomous vehicles. We examined moral preferences regarding the choice between software types that differ in their built-in algorithms for dealing with lethal collisions. These are categorized into three specific types: selfish, altruistic, and conservative. Respondents exhibited a preference for the altruistic strategy, which is reinforced when signalled to others. The altruistic preference is the most pronounced when it applies to everybody else, weaker when it reflects only a personal choice, and the weakest when choosing for one's own child. We conclude that making a choice public significantly sways individuals towards a more socially beneficial solution. The second study investigates the relationship between parasite Toxoplasma gondii infection and its subsequent impact on human political beliefs and values. Infected participants exhibited a tendency towards heightened tribalism and...
