In this thesis, I analyze various aspects of migration from Ukraine to the Czech Republic under the resettlement program of ethnic Czechs introduced by the Czech government in 2015. This program was initiated upon the request of the Czech society in Ukraine in response to steady economic decline and worsening living conditions in Ukraine. The population of my study is ethnic Czechs living in Ukraine and who moved to the Czech Republic within the resettlement program. I study the determinants of their move, speed of integration in the Czech Republic, progress on the Czech labor market, migrants' satisfaction with life in the destination country, discrimination and their plans for the future. I collect qualitative data from individual interviews mostly conducted in hotel rooms where the migrants temporarily reside. Resettlement of former district Rumburk after 1945

This thesis deals with the post-war years of the Rumburk district, more precisely with post-war expulsions and mainly with resettlement. The work was based on archival materials (SOkA Děčín), especially on the administrative ones, secondly, the comparison of accessible secondary literature was made and lastly, the actual memories of those who still remember were composed into the research. The accessible literature and sources are introduced to the reader right in the introduction. The thesis is divided into three basic parts. The first part focuses on the topic of post-war expulsions, what the author considers to be crucial for understanding of the phenomena of resettlement. Furthermore, this part consists of two parts: perception of post- war expulsions generally in the whole Czechoslovakia and concretely in the Rumburk region. The second part of the thesis includes the topic of resettlement, generally and concretely, as well. The last section deals with the Rumburk region from the view of historical sources and those who still remember. It also contains a chapter about the regional social and cultural life (culture and sports clubs, religion, towns and landscape transformation). The History of Vimperk and its German Population in the 20th Century

This thesis deals with the life of the German population in the small town of Vimperk in the first half of the twentieth century. The first part describes the emergence of the town and then depicts the life of its population in the period since the Czechoslovak Republic, ie.from 1918, through World War II to the following expulsion of the German population until the end of the year 1946. The thesis tries to answer the question, why some Germans were allowed to stay in post-war Czechoslovakia and were not expelled. The second part is devoted to the German minority, which still lives in Vimperk and also to those who left it and now live on the other side of the border in the nearby town of Freyung. This part consists of a transcript of collected interviews with some of the contemporary witnesses that are being compared to each other and analyzed regarding the period of the expulsion.

The folk healing in memoirs and living presence of resettled compatriots from the former Soviet Union

The work builds on the scientific production on the theme of the resettled Czechs from areas of the former Soviet Union, which is continued treated on the soil of the Institute of Ethnology of the CAS, v.v.i., and introduces the latest conducted grant project, in which I focused on the area of health and folk medicine. The text deals with a specific group of the Czech populations predominantly from Ukraine and Kazakhstan (partially also Belarus and Russia), whose ancestors set out in the second half of the 19th century to seek a better living in the direction to the east from the borders of then Austro-Hungary. Through the use of commemorative narrations and life trajectories of the participating actors, the work maps the background of the arrival in new destinations, life in the 20th century, the change of the political and social conditions and the subsequent remigration to the Czech Republic. With a few exceptions, all of the actors figuring in this work became part of the resettlement processes - in the case of the Volyn Czechs after World War II in 1947 within the controlled exchange of the populations and in the case of the Chernobyl Czechs (and partially also some of the Czechs from Belarus and Russia) in the 1990s within the state-controlled resettlement after the accident at the Chernobyl...

Media Represantation of Resettlement in Czech Republic and USA

The aim of this bachelor thesis is to compare the media representation of resettlement of syrian refugees, as one of the possible solutions to the migration crisis. According to the social constructivism theory, media are understood to be one of the most important factors in the process of constructing reality, and when it comes to political topics, their role is even more significant, as most of the time, media representation of political issues is the only option to acquire information about them. The so called migration crisis with its proposed solutions is one of the most common agendas set by mass media, the most discussed solution being resettlement. Thought resettlement is globally applicable, its history and extension differs throughout the world, so its media representation is expected to be different. This study, realized through quantitative content analysis, was focused on the comparison of media representation of resettlement of Syrian refugees in the U.S. and in the Czech Republic, the analyzed media being Mladá Fronta Dnes and Hospodářské noviny for the Czech republic, and The New York Times for The United States.
