Rehabilitace areálu kláštera Hájek u Červeného Újezdu
Káchová, Nikola
The Fransciscan monastery Hájek with the oldest loreto in the Czech Republic, which was built on behalf of the aristocratic family Žďárský from Žďár by Italian architects Carlo Lurago and Giovanni Domenico Orsi, has been standing in a town of Červený Újezd near Prague for almost four hundred years. The history of the monastery was affected by the totalitarian regime in years 1950 to 1989, when the Czechoslovakian army overran the place and, on the order of the Ministry of National Defence, transformed the area into a munition warehouse. Despite the irreversible harm done in the past century, early baroque elements are still visible in the area and – together with the mature grove and long history of the monastery – they contribute towards a unique genius loci of the place. The present work focuses on the monastery gardens and proposes a new design that is based on detailed historical and present analyses of the place. The author considers demands of the user and the Heritage Institute, proposing a gardens design that combines symmetry and splendour, which are typical for early baroque gardens, with the natural elements in their pure state whose importance was stressed by St. Francis himself.

Canonization of Saint Thomas Aquinas Abstract This thesis inquires into the canonization process of Thomas Aquinas, in relation to specific circumstances and general usage of the era on the field of canonizing saints. While at the grave of the reverend master, miracles were produced and the popular cult was rising, on western universities, a doctrinal dispute has flared up which touched Thomas' doctrine, as well. The case has not be resolved untill nearly fifty years, when the pope John XXII has shown interest in canonizing one important personality of Dominican order. The choice fell on Thomas. The minor friars, protected by the roman king Louis IV the Bavarian, oposed but the pope got his purpose through, and so Thomas' learning became the leading stream in theology and thinking. The aim of this thesis is to approach period specificities of the cult of saints and canonization processes, to outline a brief history of Thomas' way to canonization and following occurrences, and to try to figure out broader context of the process, evaluating the importance of particular aspects at the same time. The thesis is based on canonization documents and relies on relevant sources and specialized literature. Kurešová, Jana ; Kubík, Viktor (advisor) ; Černý, Pavol (referee) ; Brodský, Pavel (referee)
The Franciscan Bible from the National Museum Library in Prague (XII.B.13) Within the Context of 13th Century Painting The painted miniatures decorating the so-called Franciscan Bible (Prague, KNM XII.B.13), which dates in around the 1270s, illustrate the development of painting in Central Europe during the transition period between Late Romanesque and Gothic style. Illuminations in the Franciscan Bible are the work of four masters, the first of whom illustrated the Old Testament, and the latter three worked on the New Testament. The style of the illuminations places its authors firmly in the circle of artists drawing inspiration from the workshop of Giovanni da Gaibana. The Gaibanesque style is characterized by using traditional local motifs, with elongated tails expanding into the borders. Color tones gradually shift toward the cooler palette; form tends toward more schematic drawings and simplified shapes; imitation of Western style is characterized by gradual abandonment of heavy impasto modeling. The First Master most likely came from the Central Rhenish region, but his ornamental motifs are inspired by the Gaibanesque tradition; the other three masters, on the other hand, fully adopted the Gaibanesque style. Their works differ in the way they chose to interpret the common motifs, their use of...
