The Media Portrayl of Czech attendance at International Exhibition in Montreal 1967 in contemporary press

Master diploma thesis "The Media Portrayal of Czechoslovak attendance at International Exhibition in Montreal 1967 in contemporary press" intends to show media picture of Czechoslovak attendance at Expo 1967, through the use of analysis of selected daily press and social and cultural journals. It sets Czechoslovak attendance into political, cultural, ideological and media context and outline history and development of International Exhibition. Thesis also introduces Montreal exhibition and present information about attendance of Czechoslovakia. On this foundations arise the second part of the thesis, which propounds the media picture of this event in selected contemporary press and using analysis of self-mindedness that refers to rate of statement of facts and objectivity. Selected press and journals were monitored for a period of eight months and by researching there was considered form o reporting, ideological affection and general focus of selected press about this event. Important considered elements were also influence of freeing atmosphere of second half of sixties and fact, that exhibition took place in capitalistic state. Outcome of all these circumstances is media picture of this event, which is shown in conclusion of thesis.
The picture of the Conference of Security and Co-operation in Europe in 1975 in the period press

The bachelor thesis The Image of The Conference on Security and Co-operation in Europe in 1975 in the period press aims to describe how the Czechoslovak daily newspapers Rudé právo, Lidová demokracie, Práce, Mladá fronta and Svobodné slovo of that time informed about the historical event called Conference on Security and Co-operation in Europe (CSCE). It covers the period from the 1st of July 1975 to the 31st of August 1975. In the middle of this period, the last and most important part of the two-year conference took place. The representatives of the 35 participating countries signed there the Final Act of CSCE, which summed up the principles of international co- operation. The analytical part of this bachelor thesis deals with a portrayal of the topic by printed media considering both their content and formal aspects. It also examines the way political propaganda and manipulation impacted articles about CSCE. The theoretical part contains a chapter on the conference itself. This event was important for history because it stressed the issue of human rights and contributed to the end of the Cold War and to breakup of the Soviet Bloc. The bachelor's thesis "Silver legacy of EURO 1996 during the following European Football Championships" deals with informing how selected Czech dailies reported on the 1996 European Football Championship during the following five European football championships. In selected tournaments, the text follows the frequency, and which iconic moments and personalities were most referred to in connection with the 1996 European Championship. The work is divided into three parts. The theoretical first describes the relationship between sport and the media, which is important for the correct understand of the bachelor's thesis. Further, the introductory part deals with aspects of how sports success is displayed, which is in fact the subject of research in the bachelor's thesis. In the next phase, he describes the history of European football championships. This context is also suitable for understanding a successful sporting event in a broader context. 10th anniversary of establishment of the first republic and its presentation in the contemporary press

The bachelor thesis deals with the jubilee tenth anniversary of the founding of the Czechoslovak Republic and the importance of this event for conteporary press and society. The thesis analyzes four both party and independent newspapers (Lidové noviny, Národní politika, Venkov and Právo lidu) and compares what were their thoughts about the first decade of the republic and how important were the jubilee celebrations for them. The work consists of two parts. The first one contains a description of political development of the first decade of republic and for a better understanding of the historical context it also recalls the most important milestones of formation and functioning of Czechoslovakia. In addition, the work also tries to outline the media situation during the First Republic. In the second part, thesis describes concrete newspapers and analyzes articles and mentions of the jubilee celebrations in the period from 20 October to 4 November 1928. At the end of the thesis there is a comparison of the obtained results, which compares the importance of the celebrations for individual editors, and whether the opinions of the newspapers differed.
The December riots 1897 in Prague

(in English): In my work I tried to describe genesis and progress of Prague december riots in 1897. Uprising took place in days between 29. 11. - 2. 12. and they were marked by their violence, antisemitism and rapid growth. Their end was caused by declaration of martial law in afternoon of 2. december. Except the description of events of every of four days was I looking for their common and different tendencies, and I tried to portray the spread of the demonstrations to surrounding districts and find out, if they had a leader, or were just uncontrolled masses. Further I've been trying to process the reflections of december riots in 1897 in political press. For this part I've been using Prague Czech and German liberal, realistic and social democratic newspapers. Specifically I've examined daily press Národní listy, Prager Tagblatt, Bohemia, Právo lidu and weekly press Čas. I supplied my work with illustrations from Pražský ilustrovaný kurýr as well as with caricatures from Šípy.
Successful football chamionships for the Czechoslovak and Czech teams and their reflection in the contemporary press

The bachelor thesis "Succesful football championships for the Czechoslovak and Czech teams and their reflection in the contemporary press" deals with the reporting on the major international football tournaments such as World Cups and European Championships, where the Czechoslovak or later Czech national teams suceeded. The first part focuses on the phenomenon of mediated sport and the descriptions of selected tournaments, the second part deals with the chosen journals and the methods of the thesis itself. The last part explicates which topics are the most common in newspapers during the reporting period (one week before until one week after the tournament) and the changes in post-match reporting focusing on Czechoslovak and Czech games.
The Fate of Pankrác Prisoners in After-war Period- Pankrác Prison, May 1945-1946

The main topic of this thesis is the fate of people being held in the Pankrác prison in the period of approximately one year after the end of World War II. The base of the thesis are collected testimonies, information about the circumstances of the events at that time from both the present and available contemporary literature and periodicals, their analysis and comparisons as well as adding other relating data from archives and other sources. The introduction and the methodological part is followed by a historical discourse observing the events of the end of World War II in the European context, history of the Pankrác prison since the time of its establishment in 1889, and the Czech-German conflict in the period before the Munich Agreement had been signed and the period of the Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia, until the transfer of the control over the prison by the Czech administration in May 1945. The individual topics introducing the conditions that prevailed in the Pankrác prison at that time are elaborated in the part devoted to the postwar period. Czechoslovakia in the years 1948-1989: How did the ruling party use the language of the formation of the "favorable" reality?

Submitted thesis deals with the question of how was the ruling party was using the language of "favorable" view of reality on the example of the introduction of monetary reform and the cancellation of the ticket system in the year1953. Using the critical discourse analysis of James Paul Gee it examines the twelve selected articles in the journals Rudé právo and Pravda in the period of one week before and two weeks after the introduction of monetary reform. The aim of this Bachelor thesis is to capture how did the Communist Party try to manipulate and influence the attitude of the citizens of Czechoslovakia to monetary reform through the media. The main contribution of this thesis should be a preview of functioning of the media in totalitarian Czechoslovakia and a display of the Communist regime's efforts to influence the media construct reality.
