Activating programs for long-term hospitalized patients
HLAVÁČOVÁ, Lucie
In general, it is very important for a human being to stay active. During any kind of hospitalization, activities that anyone is used to from their home environment or lifestyle may get interrupted or halted completely. It is crucial to return these activities back to the life and activation programs were designed to help us with this task. The aim of this paper is to map the current usage of activation programs and the needs of any individual patient. The paper further focuses on the benefits of these programs and also on the general requirements of possible providers of activation programs. The research used qualitative methodology and information was obtained via semi-structured interviews. These interviews were conducted with ten nurses working at the Long-term Care Department of a hospital located in South Bohemian region and with ten selected patients from the same department. Research shows that activation programs are rarely used in every day operations. Currently, this issue is even more accented due to the world-wide epidemiological situation. The hospital is unable to offer all the special activation programs the patients need. The research itself provides comprehensive overview of the advantages stemming from using activation programs for both patients and the nursing staff. The final result of our research is a new concept of activation techniques. This concept would take into consideration patients' own interest an his/her physical strengths to allow them to select an appropriate activity. These would be offered by the nursing staff who would participate in any selected activity with the patient. All exercises would be simple enough and with low physical requirements for the nurse to be able to add these activities to the regular working schedule. We would suggested the following examples of activities: targeted conversations on a specific topic favored by the patient, reading, watching television, singing, painting and drawing, simple crafting and short strolls. The nurse would be properly trained and educated in providing support during the activity. Example information brochure with possible activation techniques is attached in the appendices section of this written work. The brochure will also be presented to the head nursing staff of the Long-term Care Department.

MATOUŠKOVÁ, Lenka
The thesis titled "How did I live there?" Lifestyle in home for the elderly: autoethnography of life in a retirement home, was focused on the description of life from my point of view in the Home of St. Elizabeth. The theoretical part contains the demography of population aging in the Czech Republic focused on South Moravian region due to the location, where the research was conducted. Furthermore I am specifying the terms related to the thesis, such as gerontology, geriatrics, home for the elderly, quality of the life and more. Also I am describing the lifestyle with a mention of the lifestyle of the seniors. In the practical part the results of my qualitative research, which are presented, were obtained from quality analysis. The aim of the work was to find out how to live in a residential facility for the elderly in my view within autoetnography. It was elected qualitative strategy, method autoethnography, data analysis, obtained materials, photographs, and observations. The results were analyzed by coding in the program Atlas.ti. I recorded the daily routine and all the activities, which I had during my compulsory practice. I coded these records and I noted them in the diagram and then I described the codes in the reference to the daily records. The text was supplemented with photo documentation from a normal day in the home for the elderly. The part of annex is a list of categories and resources used to create diagrams and transcribed daily records during the stay. The results showed that I was most affected by the isolation that affected my behavior and I experienced a lot of negative feelings. Furthermore, eating when were meat dishes served was sometimes difficult for me as for vegetarian. I had a hard time perceiving my departure from the facility, because I spent a lot of time here and became to be part of the team. I was excited about leisure activities and the rich program that was offered to clients. I actively participated these activities.
Comparation of physical and leisure activities in selected houses for the elderly in the Czech Republic and Germany
NASTAS, Daniela
In my final diploma thesis, I deal with the issue of a physical and leisure activity in selected homes for the elderly in the Czechia and Germany. The whole work is divided into a theoretical and practical part. The theoretical part describes residential institutions for seniors in the Czech Republic and Germany and their financing and historical development up to the present, I deal with the mental, physical, social, and spiritual aspects of seniors and their adequate physical activities. The practical part consists of a questionnaire survey and statistical verification of the tested hypotheses. I sent the questionnaire survey by e-mail to more than 50 selected homes for the elderly in the Czech Republic and Germany, but I have got the answers only from 13 of them. The aim was to find about whether seniors are satisfied with the offered activities in the home for the elderly, what activities the seniors engage in, what the activity brings them and what improvement they would welcome. The results of the questionnaire survey are processed into graphs and tables. It was confirmed that a total of 50 % of clients in Germany answered that they are completely or rather satisfied with the quality of services offered, compared to 8 % less in the Czech Republic, 42 %. Based on this survey, it follows that seniors are interested in nonphysical activities that bring them contact with other people and thus strengthen their social ties. Therefore, it would be appropriate for the directors of houses for elderly to consider the inclusion of new nonphysical activities.
