This thesis, therefore, includes the programme composition of both channels monitoring the period from autumn 2013 to autumn 2014, as well as the programme composition of ČT2 from autumn 2012. This allows us to evaluate how ČT2 attended to cultural broadcasting before the launch of the new and thematically specialized channel ČT art. Moreover, the thesis tries to point out the trends taking place in television broadcasting such as digitalization, fragmentation of TV audiences and media convergence. These trends are illustrated by using specific examples from the Czech Television, as well as the theoretical foundation. The theoretical part of the thesis focuses on describing public-service media, services they provide and their roles in fulfilling the cultural needs of society. Lebedová, Veronika ; Sládková, Hana (advisor) ; Köpplová, Barbara (referee)
The main topic of this thesis is the role of media in society with respect to the relation between media, society and culture. The thesis aims to reassess selected issues, based on critical theory of media and society, and to verify their relevance in contemporary Czech context. These subjects are theoretically based on several concepts of authors connected with the so called Frankfurt School and on the critical theory developed by their followers. Their opinions are applied on the Czech environment through the perspective of cultural studies because of the shift in social and historical context since the former theories appeared. After media studies left the ideas of technological determinism, their dominant paradigm has changed to social constructivism, being interested in the meaning of media contents. In cultural studies, the meaning is interpreted using tools of structural and semiotic analysis. The same research perspective and method are applied in this thesis. Considering the interpretation of meaning in the representation of art in the program Události v kultuře, we could partly reflect on the mythology and ideology of Czech society in its relation to culture. The primary result of the empirical research is the fact, that media messages about art represent (implicitly or explicitly)...
The Media Image of Visual Arts in Czech Television
Švarcová, Barbora ; BENDOVÁ, Helena (advisor) ; POSPISZYL, Tomáš (referee)
The thesis consists of a context and textual analysis of Artmix, a TV show dedicated to visual arts, while touching on other relevant programs on Czech TV. The results of these analyses are then brought into theoretical setting primarily using the philosophical and social concept of the Field of Power as defined by Pierre Bourdieu in his book Rules of Art. Principal themes, interspersing throughout the text, are the limits of reflections of visual arts through TV screen and hidden interpretational patterns applied to visual arts through its media image. Furthermore there is an additional issue of traditional notions of an artist existing within our society, weighed down by history, or the quest for the ideal format of a TV show reflecting visual arts.
