Tomka, Petr ; Tůma, Oldřich (advisor) ; Bureš, Jan (referee)
The aim of this thesis is to analyze the notion of "democratic socialism" from the perspective of the media discussions on the pages of the contemporary press during the Prague Spring. The contemporary notion of "democratic socialism" relates here to the issue of searching of a possible new form of political system at the moment that the currently existing communist regime was finding itself in a deep crisis concerning almost all of its aspects and resulting eventually in the attempt of its overall reform in the year 1968. The political thought of Prague Spring is in this thesis divided into three main groups - reformist politicians, communist intellectuals and representatives of the non-party public, whereas by means of the analysis of the contemporary press the author tries to take a portrait of a certain general view of representatives of this three currents about the sense and substance of ongoing events and on the basis of the assessment of these factors consequently demonstrates that in their reflections on a possible goal of the political reforms are found important differences with regard to the issue of democratic character of the intended regime of "democratic socialism". The Analysis of Media Messages: the 1989 Palach Week
Vacek, Josef ; Šafařík, Petr (advisor) ; Tůma, Oldřich (referee)
The main proposition is that the newspapers which were published by political parties were informing about the events more frequently than other media. This assumption was proved just in part - the newspaper with the biggest number of articles concerning the events was "Rudé právo" published by the communist party, however, the rest of the communist press was lagging behind. One of the findings of this work is that all of the newspapers used media instruments in different proportion. Apart from that, two days of a turning point are identified in all the newspapers in the given period of analysis, both of them were marked with an increase or decrease of the number of articles. The chosen reasearch method is the quantitative analysis supplemented in part by comparison of the results.

Čížek, Martin ; Reiman, Michal (advisor) ; Tůma, Oldřich (referee) ; Kudrna, Ladislav (referee)
The aim of the dissertation is to explain the military-political reasons behind the long-term attempt of the Soviet Union to deploy its units on Czechoslovak territory, as well as the root cause of the military operation against Czechoslovakia which was carried out by the five member armies of the Warsaw Pact. One of the main reasons for this was the military and strategic situation in Central Europe in the 1960's, and also the issue of nuclear weapons and their carriers. A separate chapter is dedicated to Soviet attempts to deploy its units on Czechoslovak territory prior to Operation Danube. The final chapter deals with the reorganization of the CPA, the establishment of the CGV and the NATO reaction to the change in the strenght of armed forces present on the border of the two Blocs.

Zálom, Pavel ; Tůma, Oldřich (advisor) ; Cuhra, Jaroslav (referee)
My bachelor thesis "The influence of historical circumstances on the activity of the Slovak factor and its role in the election of Gustav Husak to the head of the Communist Party of Czechoslovakia - Comparison with the election of Alexander Dubcek" intends, through analytical and comparative methods, to approach the influence of historical circumstances on the effect of the Slovak factor in the election of Gustav Husak to the position of the First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Czechoslovakia in April 1969. The reason is that the author studied the literature related to this issue and lacked a text that would be devoted to these themes in more detail. Based on the analysis of the election of Alexander Dubcek to the leading position in the Party in January 1968, within which the influences emphasizing the effect of the Slovak factor are evident according to the author's opinion, three comparison ranges - saturation, coercion and conflict range - were defined. Based on these ranges the examined factors of the election of Husak were identified. Basic terms - a thematic content of the comparison ranges as well as the Slovak factor itself - will be characterized closer and explained in the text. By using this method, author concludes that the key factors that significantly...
