The Use of an Applied Behavior Analytic approach in the Education of Students with Autism Spectrum Disorders in a Special Education Primary School
Prokopová, Zuzana ; Bartoňová, Miroslava (advisor) ; Vítková, Marie (referee) ; Franiok, Petr (referee)
The subject of this dissertation is on the use of an applied behavior analysis (hereinafter referred to as ABA) based approach in the education of pupils diagnosed with autism spectrum disorders in a special education primary school. In the theoretical part, autism spectrum disorder (hereinafter referred to as ASD) is defined within the context of current knowledge, its anchoring in classification systems, symptoms, screening and diagnostic methods, and supported evidence-based practices as it relates to treatments available to individuals with ASD. Furthermore, the theoretical part deals with ABA as a scientific field and its use in the education of pupils with ASD. Last but not least, findings are presented on the inclusion of pupils with ASD in the educational process both here and abroad and introduces the Pennsylvania support class model as one of the possibilities of implementing education with the assistance of an ABA based approach. The research part of the dissertation is divided into three research studies, all of which have one common theme; the education of pupils with ASD in a special education primary school using ABA. In the first research study, a description on the current status on the usage of ABA in the Czech Republic as it relates to the education of pupils with ASD in primary...

Creation of the citizenship law in Latvia in the context of European integration
Prokopová, Zuzana ; Švec, Luboš (advisor) ; Vykoukal, Jiří (referee)
This diploma thesis deals with the process of the formation of the Latvian Citizenship Law in the context of European integration. The main aim of the thesis is to analyze the influence of European organization (primarily the Council of Europe, the European Union and the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe) on the law creation and the approval of its amendments. The aim of the study is also to analyze how the representatives of the Russian Federation influenced the process of law creation and its changes. Latvia was annexed by the Soviet Union in 1940, it remained its part until 1991. During the Soviet period, many Russian-speaking people moved to the territory of Latvia. Latvian citizenship law from 1994 was highly restrictive, it was based on the principle of legal continuity between interwar Latvia and restored Latvia after 1991. Therefore, the law only restored citizenship, which meant that only people who had been citizens before 1940 were granted automatic citizenship. Many inhabitants of restored Latvia, especially Russian speaking inhabitants, remained without citizenship. There was a possibility to acquire citizenship through the naturalization process, but the pace of the naturalization was too slow due to the system of so-called "naturalization windows". The system...
The effect of segmental context on the perception of nasal consonants
Prokopová, Zuzana ; Bořil, Tomáš (advisor) ; Šturm, Pavel (referee)
In this thesis, the effect of segmental context on the perception of nasal consonants (namely their place of articulation) is investigated. Disyllabic sequences ending with syllables [ne] or [na:] were extracted from one speaker's utterances and the vowel preceeding the nasal consonant was varied either by replacing the first syllable with a different one, which however came from the same phonemic context, or by mani- pulation of formant trajectories. 15 original, 15 spliced and 5 manipulated pseudo- words were presented to 32 listeners, whose task was to choose from two options, one containing [n] and the other [m], the one that matched the heard stimulus. In case of six spliced and one manipulated stimuli, there was a significant shift of the average evaluation: while the original stimuli were clearly identified as containing [n], eva- luation of the altered stimuli was at least equivocal. This finding is inconsistent with the idea of an invariant acoustic cue for place of articulation in the nasal consonant itself or in one of the adjoining segments, and emphasises the contextual dependence of our perception of segments. The result may be of importance for concatenative speech synthesis. Keywords: nasal consonants, place of articulation, effect of segmental context, perception of speech
The Soviet annexation of the Baltic states in 1940 and the Western reaction
Prokopová, Zuzana ; Švec, Luboš (advisor) ; Smetana, Vít (referee)
This bachelor thesis deals with the international reaction to the occupation and following incorporation of the Baltic States into the Soviet Union in 1940. The main aim of this thesis is to answer question "What was the attitude of two western powers, the USA and the United Kingdom, regarding the annexation?". This thesis focuses on foreign policies of the USA and the UK towards the Soviet Union during the Second World War, both western countries decided to refuse the legitimacy of the annexation. This thesis also explains under which circumstances the governments and leaders of both states had to make decisions. In the analysis of the US foreign policy this thesis also deals with the Stimson Doctrine from the year 1932, which was important for the formulation of the US policy of non-recognition of forcible seizure of territory. The Doctrine was used in the case of the Baltic States, as well. Thesis further focuses on the formation of the Grand Alliance, also known as Big Three, and conferences of three allied leaders. The Baltic question had been an issue during the negotiations but at the Tehran Conference western leaders agreed to accept Soviet annexation de facto. However, de iure recognition has never been granted. This thesis also explains the events in the Baltics from August 1939 until the...
Use of Canistherapy for Stimulation of Persons with Rare Diseases
Prokopová, Zuzana ; Hájková, Vanda (advisor) ; Šumníková, Pavlína (referee)
The aim of this thesis was to assess the influence of canistherapeutic intervention on the level of fine motor skills in patients with rare diseases, namely mitochondrial encephalocardiomyopathy caused by TMEM70 gene mutation and Leigh syndrome. Canistherapeutic intervention in these patients is based on activation of motoric functions during programme reasonably designed according to the needs of specific patients. The assistance of the dog is used to achieve this activation. The dog acts as an important motivational factor and the direct contact with it contributes to development of sensomotoric skills of these patients. The thesis summarizes general information about rare diseases and focuses on one of the subgroups of mitochondrial disorders. It presents knowledge about the Leigh syndrome and mitochondrial encephalocardiomyopathy caused by TMEM70 gene mutation. Subsequently the thesis presents information about canistherapy and fine motor skills. The thesis further contains case reports of patients, data from research units and their evaluation. The aim of the thesis was to find out whether patients with mitochondrial disease show improvement of quality and effectivity of selected grasp forms and thus faster and more precise execution assigned tasks focusing on object manipulations. Partial...
