Aspirations of management students, the role of the mother - manager and social politics
Tobiášová, Magdaléna ; Křížková, Alena (advisor) ; Marková Volejníčková, Romana (referee)
The thesis deals with the issue of women in management. The theoretical part provides basic points and explains key concepts such as gender segregation of the labor market, discrimination of women in management, or barriers to women entering managerial positions, which are a fundamental problem of gender inequality in the labor market. Next is also described family policy, as an offshoot of social policy, to help women in harmonizing work and family. Research aims to find out how aspiring managers, management students, perceive this issue through semi-structured interviews that are processed by thematic analysis. Interpretation of the results then provides repertoires of roles that these women expect in life and description how they choose or combine among them and their attitude to these repertoires. The main findings of the work are the perception of discrimination on the grounds of maternity and the problematic combination of care and careers related to the insufficient provision of state childcare facilities. However, perceptions of other career barriers meets with a positive attitude, interviewees believe they do not face other disadvantages compared to men than motherhood.
Viewers Motivations for Watching Beauty Videos on You Tube
Jiroušková, Dominika ; Křížková, Alena (advisor) ; Švelch, Jaroslav (referee)
The diploma thesis focuses on motivations for watching beauty videos on YouTube. The aim is to clarify why viewers watch amateur videos that communicate topics related to physical appearance. Assuming the audience as an active actor of media communication the thesis is based on uses and gratification theory. Viewers watch beauty videos consciously to meet their individual needs. Based on an analysis of eleven interviews with regular viewers of beauty videos this thesis reveals five categories of motivation. Beauty videos represent the source of information, the source of entertainment, the platform for communication with individuals with shared theme of interest and the tool for self-education. These motivations are not specific for this specific type of media and can motivate viewers to watch amateur beauty videos and professional beauty shows equally. The key motivation for watching beauty videos on YouTube is the interest of videobloggers. Authors of beauty videos disclose parts of their privacy, show their imperfections and interact with their audience. Using these practices videobloggers evoke the illusion of a close relationship between them and their viewers. Viewers have the opportunity the create strong social ties to videobloggers.
Parents returning to work after parental leave in the eyes of recruiters
Marková, Kateřina ; Křížková, Alena (advisor) ; Tuček, Milan (referee)
Work, and more particularly paid work, is an essential part of decent human existence. Current conditions on the Czech labour market cannot be considered friendly towards parenthood and parenting duties. The common pressure to fully adjust to the employer's needs and very limited opportunities of family-friendly forms of employment together with other factors have led to a situation where parents of small children (and particularly mothers) find themselves in a disadvantageous position. Family policies do not aim to improve that position and institutional child care does not have sufficient capacity. The qualitative research undertaken for the purpose of this thesis therefore focuses on personal managers as representatives of employers in the employee recruitment process, more precisely on conceptions (stereotypes) personal managers have of men and women, of parents in general and most importantly of parents returning to the labour market after their parental leave. It is very important to research these conceptions (stereotypes) because they are an integral part of the employee selection process and are reflected in the decision-making about hiring/not hiring an individual for a position.
Mother managers - can manage motherhood and career?
Kaňoková, Kateřina ; Pavlík, Petr (advisor) ; Křížková, Alena (referee)
7 ABSTRACT Topic: Mothers manager - can cope with motherhood and career? is topical and is an area where there are still certain provisions regarding gender equality, which indicates the fact that women are represented only less than a third, although almost half the working population. It is clear that career managers are affected by many factors that are slowing down, which probably has the most significant effect of motherhood. In their qualitative research, I took aim at women who work as managers and have small children. Analyze in detail the four key areas: the experience of women returning after maternity / parental leave for managerial position, the impact of motherhood on their careers, strategies and experiences in balancing work and family and any experience with any form of discrimination in the labor market. The basic research question was: "What are the challenges facing the mother-manager gender inequality in our society?"

Together, but apart: qualitative research of "living apart together"
Píšová, Kateřina ; Chaloupková, Jana (advisor) ; Křížková, Alena (referee)
The subejct of my graduation theses will be a study of individuals who have decided not to live in a shared household with their spouse. Their choice can be made under pressure of certain circumstances, due to personal preference or mutual decision. This study about relationships "living apart together" is the first qualitative analysis of its kind in the Czech Republic. In the first part of the study I will bring together results from available international materials about "living apart together" to compare modern trends of family behaviour in the Czech Republic. I will also use contenporary concepts related to transformation of the traditional family to alternative forms of relationship. In practical section I will present an analysis of detailed interviews with individuals involved in LAT. This analysis attempts to answer such questions as why some couples in the Czech Republic do not live together and how they make their relationships work, how this situation affects their lives and how they define themselves and their relationship.
Gender audit of a regional authority
Stieblerová, Kateřina ; Pavlík, Petr (advisor) ; Křížková, Alena (referee)
The topic of this diploma work is the gender audit of regional authority. The goal is to find out if there are any institutional mechanisms that ensure the equality between men and women, how consciousness of gender problems among the interviewees is shown, if and how exactly the reign promotes the problems of equal opportunities on that particular level of regional authority, what the position of equality is of men and women in intern politics of the aforementioned regional authority, and finally, what could be changed in the aspects of region and authority. The work is divided into the introduction, the theoretical and empirical part, the conclusion, and the enclosure. The theoretical part is about the history and development of the institutional mechanisms for the equality of men and women, and of gender problems in our society. Prominent international and national documents about gender equality and about authorities of current institutional mechanisms are introduced. Work at Home. Analysis of Telework as a Phenomenon
Bierzová, Jana ; Křížková, Alena (advisor) ; Kuchař, Pavel (referee)
Home based work is one of the new trends in the contemporary labour market. The thesis theoretically examines its status in West European societies and empirically concerns the situation in the Czech Republic. Teleworking creates new possibilities for balancing work and life. Flexible working hours give employees greater freedom to work and manage their lives. They may spend more time with their families, easily com bine their work with free-time activities or studying, or choose a different lifestyle. Home-based work is linked to some disadvantages on the labour market and in the private life as well. Flexible work arrangements, including telework, are often characterized by risky and insecure forms of contracts, longer working hours, work even in the days of illness or vacation etc. It may cause insecurities and inconveniences for the workers. Different problem s are tied to the dichotomy of the public and private spheres and the boundary between them. Teleworkers experience difficulties to set the border line between these two realms, otherwise they are bound and interconnected too tight with each other and the work may interfere with the private and family time. The motor and cognitive consequences of inborn cerebellar degeneration and some possibilities how to influence it
Křížková, Alena ; Vožeh, František (advisor) ; Pokorný, Jaroslav (referee) ; Mareš, Jan (referee)
The motor and cognitive consequences of inborn cerebellar degeneration and some possibilities how to influence it The cerebellum is traditionally considered to be a coordinator of movements and equilibrium and a regulator of muscular tone. Participation of the cerebellum on the motor learning has been discovered later. Besides that, there is increasing experimental and clinical evidence supporting the idea of an important role of the cerebellum in common cognitive functions. Increasing number of experimental works - especially those on animals - demonstrate an effect of the the cerebellum on the memory and different types of learning. A suitable model to study the cerebellar degeneration are Lurcher mutant mice. During their lives, there is a progressive loss of Purkinje cells followed by a loss of granular cells and inferior oliva neurons. We concentrated on the following problems in this work: - development of motor learning and topical motor skills during the first month of life - positive and negative changes in NO synthesis and subsequent effect on discriminative learning - effect of administration of MK-801(non-competitive antagonist of NMDA receptors) on discriminative learning of Lurcher mutants and wild mice derived from two strains (C3H and C57B1/7). Lurcher mutants and wild mice were put in motor...
