Rýgrová, Pavla ; Kovář, Martin (advisor) ; Horčička, Václav (referee)
Bachelor thesis concerns itself with British economic policy of Conservative Heath government (1970-1974), the process of formulation of this policy during years in opposition 1965-1970 and reassessment of its principles in 1972. The emphasis is put on problematic aspects of the original policy and the analysis of a way how the experience from years 1970-1972 was reflected in the economic policy in years 1972-1974. There is also a scope given to an oil shock in 1973 and miner's overtime ban and subsequent strike in 1973-1974 as they are important factors testing the viability of the new direction of the economic policy. Thesis further examines the effects of the U-Turn in economic policy of the Conservative Party on its position among voters and the position of the leader of the party Edward Heath. Jägerová, Julie ; Suchánek, Drahomír (advisor) ; Horčička, Václav (referee)
Following thesis deals with relationship between the Catholic Church and a regime established in a part of France during the Second World War. The purpose of the thesis is to analyse main origins of attitude of the Catholic Church towards Vichy France. This attitude is generally considered to be positive. The thesis examines this question only on level of episcopacy. Other levels of possible research are knowingly omitted because of a limited extent of this text. The author emphasizes three main problems of relationship between the Catholic Church and the Vichy regime. Finally, the last chapter deals with post-war situation in France which is connected with purification of the catholic hierarchy. The Cyprus Crisis in 1974 and the Role of the United Nations
Lauer, Maroš ; Horčička, Václav (advisor) ; Soukup, Jaromír (referee)
This thesis explores the impact of the UN on the development of the Cyprus crisis from its beginning until its peak in 1974. This impact is analysed on two levels: 1. Negotiations of the Cyprus Crisis during the UN Security Council and General Assembly meetings and their effects on the escalation of the local situation in Cyprus. 2. Activities of the peacekeeping mission UNFICYP since its establishment in 1964 until the division of Cyprus ten years later. For the purpose of examination of the aforementioned, both detailed historical analyses, as well as theoretical concepts from international relations theory are used in this paper. The paper describes the evolution of the Cyprus Problem as a dynamic process, which needs to be perceived in its full extent, thus it is not concentrated only on the period of 1960s and 1970s, but describes original sources and causes of the conflict.

German-American Relations in the Era of the Chancellor Ludwig Erhard
Janoušek, Petr ; Horčička, Václav (advisor) ; Skřivan, Aleš (referee) ; Tajovský, Ladislav (referee)
The dissertation deals with relations of the Federal Republic of Germany and the United States in the era of Chancellor Ludwig Erhard. At that time, Erhard's partner on the American side was President Lyndon Baines Johnson. Therefore, the subject of my research were the ups and downs through which the relationship between Bonn and Washington went from 1963 to 1966. Both countries were bonded within the Western bloc with solid friendship, but in the given period they ran into a few points of friction that hindered their cooperation. The first issue that was causing tension were the Multilateral Forces (MLF). Although both countries were among the biggest supporters of the MLF, Johnson understood earlier than Chancellor Erhard that this project represented a blind alley. On the diplomatic contacts between the two countries it was evident that the Germans were heading to a certain isolation because of their pressure to implement the MLF. During 1965, Johnson and his administration chose to prefer the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT) to the MLF, but for the Germans it was more difficult to absorb this change of priorities. Another point of conflict was the question of the U.S. forces stationed in the Federal Republic, which meant heavy economical burden for Washington. Johnson,...
Family (von) Hardtmuth
Klímová, Jana ; Županič, Jan (advisor) ; Horčička, Václav (referee)
This diploma thesis Family (von) Hardmuth focuses on the life of a business family from České Budějovice since the end of the 18th century until the end of the World War II. The goal of the thesis is not only a biographical study, but it also takes into consideration the process of the dynasty's social growth, initiated by a Liechtensteiner noble architect Joseph Hardtmuth, and the establishment among the city's and new aristocratic elites. This is why the study also deals with the marriage policy and public activities of the family. Therefore, in every generation we can observe a gradual avoiding the lower status society, the owners trying to symbolize fathers of the workers (parallel to the posititon of the emperor in relation to the nation), the adaptation to the aristocratic way of life, but also the national tension both in České Budějovice and the whole monarchy. The thesis also concentrates on the establishment of pencil factories and national advertising campaigns since the turn of the 19th and 20th century until the end of the World War II. The aim of the study is to contribute to the research of the German city's and new aristocratic elites, whose lives, compared to their Czech companions, have not been examined sufficiently until now.
To the Economic and Political Development of the German Democratic Republic in the 1970s.
Szobi, Pavel ; Stellner, František (advisor) ; Vaněk, Miroslav (referee) ; Horčička, Václav (referee)
To the Economic and Political Development of the German Democratic Republic in the 1970s (Pavel Szobi) Abstract The thesis deals with the economic development of the German Democratic Republic in the 1970s. It characterizes the basic elements of real socialism and implementation of the main SED strategy for the studied period - the so called Unity of Economic and Social Policy. It evaluates single aspects and the impact on the political stability of the regime. The thesis determines effects of energetic policy, external debt and lack of foreign currency on the national economy. The author does not consider the economic failures, but the dictatorship itself to be the main reason for the regime decay. Restriction of human and civil rights, together with comparing the standard of living with the Federal Republic of Germany led to the rise of social policy expenses and an extensive subvention of the so called consumer socialism. These courses of action enabled to stabilize the GDR temporarily; however, it also made the main defects of central planning more visible. Not only a modern consumer society failed to form, but even supplying population with random goods remained an issue which is well documented in the thesis on the example of the so called coffee crisis. The author comes to the conclusion that these...
