The impact of demographic changes on the real interest rate and international capital flows.
Dybczak, Kamil ; Kodera, Jan (advisor) ; Izák, Vratislav (referee) ; Šmídková, Kateřina (referee)
The demographic structure seems to change dramatically over the next 50 years in the Czech Republic. The aim of this study is to assess the impact of expected demographic changes on the future development of a real interest rate and international capital flows. In order to simulate the impact of the expected demographic changes upon the mentioned variables we apply a computable overlapping generations model. The real interest rate development is simulated under a closed economy assumption. As a result of the future expected demographic changes labour-capital ratio tends to fall, i.e. the real interest rate diminishes. The range of a change is significantly affected by a public budget closure rule. In case of an endogenous income tax rate, the real interest rate falls down by 0.5 percentage point. On the contrary, the real interest rate decreases by almost 1 percentage point in case when public transfers adjusted. Assuming an open economy, we simulate the impact of the expected demographic changes on the international capital flows between the domestic economy and the rest of the world. In case of increasing ratio of older agents, the aggregate domestic wealth surpasses the demand for capital by domestic firms. As a result a part of domestic capital is exported abroad. Increasing level of net foreign assets contributes to positive change in ratio of the balance of payment to the domestic production in a range from 2 to 5 percentage points over next 40 years if income taxes or public transfers change respectively.

Augustin Navrátil and his disident activities
Kordíková, Marta ; Hlavačka, Milan (advisor) ; Randák, Jan (referee)
Augustin Navrátil This thesis addresses the life and work of Augustin Navrátil (1928-2003), a Roman- -Catholic activist from the Moravian township of Lutopecny near Kroměříž. A. Navrátil has not been subject of a complex publication yet, although he is the author of the largest petition demanding religious - and with that going hand in hand also civic - liberties in socialist Czechoslovakia (1988, 600 000 signatures). Followingly, this is the first attempt to biographically outline the personality and motivations of this farmer, politician (member of the party Lidova strana), man who signed Charta 77 but also a husband and father of nine children. The aim is to cover his life from his birth, over his family background to the beginnings and heights of his social engagement. The text will mainly deal with 22 open letters in which he drew attention to various illegal practices and actions of the Communist power, as well as with the three petitions he authored (1978, 1985 a 1988) and the samizdat (self-published) journal Křesťanské obzory (Christian horizons), which he published with a group of others from June 1988 to July 1990. In contrast to most Czech dissidents, he was never sentenced to a prison term for his activities, but he had to involuntarily undergo repeated psychiatric treatment. He was...

Tournament Management System
Houška, Čestmír ; Obdržálek, David (advisor) ; Ježek, Pavel (referee)
In this work the speci fics of various tournament systems are analyzed and an object data model is proposed that can be used to model these tournament systems conveniently. A tournament management application that implements this model comprises another part of the work. Emphasis was given to the open nature and to the extensibility and universality of the application. Another important part of the work is a case study that shows how the application can be used in praxis. The case study is made using the real data from a robotic competition Eurobot 2010.

Translation reinitiation mechanism on mRNA of trascriptional activator GCN4.
Vlčková, Vladislava ; Valášek, Leoš (advisor) ; Strachotová, Dita (referee)
Translation reinitiation is a gene-specific translational control mechanism exploiting the ability of some short upstream open reading frames (uORFs) to retain post-termination 40S ribosomal subunit on the mRNA. Reinitiation efficiency depends on cis-acting sequences surrounding the uORF, translation elongation rates on the uORF, selected initiation factors, and the intercistronic distance of the short uORF from the main ORF. Although the precise mechanism of reinitiation is still not known, great progress in elucidating some of its details has been recently made with help of the GCN4 translational control model system. Among them, involvement of eIF3 was shown to play a critical role for efficiency of this process. In particular, it was proposed that eIF3 specifically interacts with sequences located upstream of a reinitiation-permissive uORF upon termination, and that this step is instrumental in stabilizing the 40S ribosomal subunit on the mRNA to allow subsequent resumption of scanning for reinitiation downstream. In this thesis, the current knowledge of the translation reinitiation mechanism is summarized. As a typical example, the yeast transcriptional activator GCN4 has been chosen, the mRNA of which is subjected to a tight translational control via the very reinitiation mechanism.

Light pollution caused by artificial illumination on downhill ski slopes in Krkonoše National Park
Bujalský, Luděk ; Frouz, Jan (advisor) ; Maixner, Tomáš (referee)
Light pollution is often mentioned as an energetic loss but its effect on natural ecosystems is seldom studied. In Krkonoše National Park and other locations in the Czech Republic, artificial illumination of ski slopes is widely used to enable night skiing. In this study, we quantified the area around illuminated ski slopes where the light intensity at night was > 0.1 lx because previous studies showed that this light intensity could have biological effects. For these estimations, 62 transects were laid perpendicular to the illuminated ski slope (12 slopes in total were studied), and illumination was measured with a Extech EA 30 luxmeter at 0 m and 1.5 m above the ground. Transects were located in four basic types of habitat: open plain with snow covering the vegetation; closed spruce forest in which the trees on the margin have branches that reach the ground; open spruce forest in which the trees have branches only in the top part of the trunk, permitting light to penetrate beneath the canopy; and young dense spruce forest. The data were expressed as log of illumination vs. log of distance from the slope. Most measurements were taken on cloudy nights but some were taken on clear nights. Comparison of the same transect measured on clear and cloudy nights showed that clouds significantly increased...

Position monitoring with the help of GPS/GSM modem
Zavadil, Miloš ; Vyoral, Josef (referee) ; Šilhavý, Pavel (advisor)
The first chapter of bachelor thesis is focused on theoretical explanation of the most important terms in Global Positioning System describing basic principles and position monitoring possibilities. The structure of the whole GPS system and its position setting accuracy is described further. The NMEA protocol used for transferring GPS information is shortly mentioned too. The second chapter deals with Open AT platform used for application development. It is a product of Wavecom company. The third thematic unit has already practical character. It shows the results of locating GenLoc25 modem by AT commands and decoding NMEA frame. Three variants of applications developed in Microsoft Visual C++ are described in the last chapter. All of them are used for position monitoring with GPS/GSM modem. The first program has the same functionality as the modem locating by AT commands. It is only for visualization of GPS information in Terminal window. The second application we can consider as the most important in this thesis. It contains all the items from the assignment. Actual data position is automatically sent to FTP server by GPRS transmission. The data are stored on this server. Received data are visualized in web browser by PHP script which is stored on server too. Final application is derived from the second one. The algorithm assumes that data are not sent to server regularly but transmission depends on human factor.

Effect of vegetation on snow accumulation and snow melt
Pevná, Hana ; Kocum, Jan (referee) ; Jeníček, Michal (advisor)
Effect of vegetation on snow accumulation and snow melt Abstract: This bachelor thesis analyzes the impact of physical-geographic factors on the physical properties and characteristics of the development of snow cover. Results published in the literature are compared with those obtained from experimental measurements in the upper Byst ice River basin in the Ore Mountains during the winter 2009/2010. The paper compares the evolution of snow cover for the actual land cover, forest and open areas. The research of literature and research conducted in the Ore Mountains proved that vegetation significantly affects accumulation and melting of the snow. The process of accumulation in the forest is influenced by snowfall interception in the treetops. Melting snow in a forest area slowed absorption and reflection of sunlight in the treetops. The bachelor thesis demonstrates that in the open areas the snow melted faster than in the forest growth. Keywords: snow cover, snow water equivalent, vegetation, Ore Mountains

Newspapers in public libraries
Strnad, Jakub ; Slámová, Hana (advisor) ; Machytka, Jan (referee)
The goal of this bachelor thesis is to find out how the activities concerning daily press go in five selected public libraries. In opening chapter the examined branch is delineated by definitions of used terms, previous adaptations of this topic are summarized, and methodology of research based on interview and surveys is introduced. Hypotheses are expressed in the last part of this chapter. In the second chapter all the Czech national daily press is characterized and their internet activities are documented. If those titles have an electronic version, it's functionality is examined in this part of thesis. Chapters 3 and 4 present results of research which was done at five libraries of various sizes. The third chapter presents selected libraries and it describes the workflow of purchasing the press in those organizations with a special emphasis on the process of choosing the material. In the fourth chapter the preferences of readers in selected libraries and the intensity of their interest over time are examined. This part of dissertation also includes analysis of other activities concerning press such as cataloguing and displacing journals. Third and Fourth chapter are closed with summarization of detected facts. In the conclusion assigned hypotheses are confirmed or disconfirmed.
