Influence of estrogens on mammalian sperm.
Šidlová, Adéla ; Šebková, Nataša (referee) ; Hortová, Kateřina (advisor)
For many years, estrogens have been considered typically female sex hormones. It is now certain that they are also very important in the regulation of male reproduction, whether their effect is positive or negative. Endogenous estrogens in mammalian males are an important part of the endocrine system. Estrogens play an important role in the growth and maintenance of bone mass, as well as in the development of germ cells and in the marches of spermatogenesis. Healthy sperm are essential for successful reproduction. Effect of endogenous estrogens is partly involved in the regulation of proper development of sperm. Besides the positive effect of endogenous estrogens, there is also a negative effect of estrogens from the external environment, so-called environmental estrogens. Between environmental estrogens are man-made chemicals, xenoestrogens, which increasingly contaminate the environment. Hazards of these estrogenic substances in nature is hidden in their ability to act as endocrine disruptors, which cause defects in many aspects of mammalian reproduction. With regards to the fact that there are more and more substances in current environment that can interfere with hormonal path of mammalian reproduction, it is important to look at this issue. Reproductive disorders that may be caused by...

Ising model in finance: from microscopic rules to macroscopic phenomena
Dvořák, Pavel ; Krištoufek, Ladislav (advisor) ; Kukačka, Jiří (referee)
The main objective of this thesis is to inspect the abilities of the Ising model to exhibit selected statistical properties, or stylized facts, that are common to a wide range of financial assets. The investigated properties are heteroskedasticity of returns, rapidly decaying linear autocorrelation, volatility clustering, heavy tails, negative skewness and non-Gaussianity of the return distribution. In the first part of the thesis, we test the presence of these stylized facts in S&P 500 daily returns over the last 30 years. The main part of the thesis is dedicated to the Ising model-based simulations and to discussion of the results. New features such as Poisson process governed lag or magnetisation dependent trading activity are incorporated in the model. We conclude that the Ising model is able to convincingly replicate most of the examined statistical properties while even more satisfactory results can be obtained with appropriate tuning. 1

Furthermore it focuses on children and their specific reception of advertisements which causes their defencelessness towards them, and summarizes American research on this topic. Our research itself focuses on single abilities which represent the ways for critical reception of commercial texts. We investigated the level of children' s ability to identify the advertisements. We tried to find a level of their knowledge of advertisements. In addition we explored their attitude to the purpose of advertisements in general and their ability to understand their texts and strategies. At the same time, we examined how the rate of this...

"Mare nostrum" and "la politica mussoliniana"
Paulusová, Kristýna ; Romancov, Michael (advisor) ; Fidler, Jiří (referee)
This thesis deals with the Mediterranean region vis-á-vis the fascist imperial plan that contain acquisitions or leastwise enforcements of all Mediterranean coast. It is a specific analysis thoroughly tackling the issue in geopolitical and historic context. Despite the fact that the topic is extremely interesting it has not been properly described thusfar in Czech research or scientific literature. The Roman Empire ruled the entire coastline of the Mediterranean sea and from its center on the Apennine peninsula managed to control the whole region through its political ability and as well as due to the central location at the Mediterranean sea. Because of the fact that, the Romans were able to expand their authority to all Mediterranean region thus it became an embosomed field. That's why the Romans called it "mare nostrum." Additionally, this thesis is concerned with endeavours to restore the Roman Empire to its former glory that were active in all phases of its historical development following its disintegration. The central position of the Apennine peninsula in the Mediterranean sea, which favours Italy ability to control the entire sea, enticed the liberal governments of the Italian kingdom to expand. However, only Mussolini's new activist and aggressive policy made these plans more concrete and to a...

A wood path to the vital self: the power of nature in D. H. Lawrence's Lady Chatterley's Lover
Klosová, Kateřina ; Armand, Louis (referee) ; Beran, Zdeněk (advisor)
A wood in spring of such tender and perceptive description would certainly stir a living string not only in Connie Chatterley, the heroine of D. H. Lawrence's novel Lady Chatterley's Lover. The vividness and intensity of life that glares out of this 'picture' represents a dominant feature of Lawrence's novel which belongs to the last, fifth period of the author's career. It is not a mere coincidence that what later became published as Lady Chatterley's Lover was, in fact, a novel Lawrence originally proposed to call Tenderness. It is indeed sensibility of extraordinary degree, intense perception of colours, of slight movements and changes that occur in nature and the parallel changes taking place in the characters that play a vital role in this novel. This "extension of consciousness, [ ... ] an ability to experience what it is like to be a tree or a daisy or a breaking wave or what he (A. Huxley) called Lawrence's 'superior otherness",2 chiefly account for the poetic, soothing, almost pastoral character of Lady Chatterley's Lover. It seems to be in this novel that Lawrence's long-lasting belief in the revitalizing and revivifying power of nature, the idea of man's contact with and return to nature and the acceptance of his origins therein as the only means of survival for mankind come to their climax and...

Jane Austen's, Pride and Prejudice. A Comparison of Czech Translations with Consideration of their Reception by Contemporary Readers
Pernicová, Zuzana ; Kupcová, Helena (advisor) ; Mocná, Dagmar (referee)
This thesis compares three translations of Jane Austen's novel Pride and Prejudice that are currently available to Czech readers. It builds on the fact that, in the Czech environment, most readers acquaint themselves with the works of foremost English writers exclusively through translations, and consequently, the ability of the translator to interpret the qualities of the original is crucial for the readers' perception of the work as well as the author. This is increasingly important with works, such as Pride and Prejudice, that come not only from a different cultural context but also from a relatively distant period of time, which makes the transfer of ideas and forms even more demanding. The first part of the thesis presents a brief introduction to the life and work of Jane Austen, her place in the history of English literature, and her ongoing popularity with readers worldwide. It then goes in more detail into the novel Pride and Prejudice, providing also a full list of Czech translations and editions. Powered by TCPDF (www.tcpdf.org)

Search of the most suitable method of estimation of output gap for the czech economy
Kloudová, Dana ; Brožová, Dagmar (advisor) ; Mirvald, Michal (referee) ; Lukáš, Ladislav (referee)
By monetary policy decisions, central banks use output gap to keep macroeconomic variables at their natural levels. A substantial disadvantage of this variable is the fact that it is an unobservable variable which is very problematic to measure, although it is possible to estimate it with various methods of estimation. This thesis aims to find the most suitable method of estimation for Czech economy. Thirteen methods have been chosen for this aim: linear trend, quadratic trend, HP filter, band-pass filters, robust trend, univariate unobserved component model, two types of production function, two SVAR models, multivariate HP filter and multivariate unobserved component model. Own estimations have shown that estimated trajectories of unobservable states were not identical. For own selection of the most suitable method of estimation, quantitative (ability to forecast inflation ,a growth of product and data revisions by selected national and international organisations) and qualitative criterions (qualities of methods of estimation, transparency and easy application) have been selected, where emphasis was put on quantitative criterions. Results of this thesis will show that the most suitable method of estimation output gap for Czech economy is multivariate unobserved component model.
