Kubeczka, Aleš ; Znoj, Milan (advisor) ; Velek, Josef (referee) ; Hrubec, Marek (referee)

This task of course reflects both secondary literature and Walzer's own understanding of his part in it. In the second part of the work the author tries to describe possible ways (three paths) of social criticism in the conception of Michael Walzer and deals with its features. The author claims that Walzer's concepton of social criticism suffers of inner inconsistency. Then the author tries to clarify the main critic's arguments and tries to find new ways of argumentation about social criticism. So as the author deals with hermeneutical interpretation and reflects its potential and limits (in the third part of the work). The fourth part of the work interprets Walzer's conception of social criticism with respect to cathegories of power, history and membership. Specifically, the thesis is concerned with map skills of pupils aged 11, 15 and 18 years, so pupils at the end of the first, second and third education level. Selection of pupils of these ages allows us to compare map skills with the requirements for pupil performance contained in the official curricula. Firstly, there are map skills defined. Subsequently, an analysis of Czech curricula was made. Then the results were compared with the results of the analysis of curricula of Slovakia, Finland and the U.S.A. to assess the concept of map skills in these documents. The results of this comparative analysis show that the Czech curricula in terms of map skills requirements indicate some randomness and lack of clear, legible concept of their development at different levels of education. Using results of this analysis, core map skills were identified - the ability to locate objects on the map, to use map as a source of information and to create maps. The following research was aimed at the first two groups of map skills. A level of pupils' map skills was observed using a map skill test that was...

The world of Harry Potter translated into Czech and Slovak
Miššíková, Martina ; Josek, Jiří (advisor) ; Podaný, Richard (referee)
This study provides a description of the translation techniques applied to the translation of culturally significant phenomena in the Harry Potter series into Czech and Slovak. The analysis extends to the first three boo ks of the Harry Potter series by British author J. K. Rowling and their translations into Czech and Slovak. The theoretical framework is derived from the views of Finnish scholar R. Oittinen (2000) on the translation of children's literature; the translation techniques used to analyze the translations are taken from Molina&Albir (2002). Chapter 1 discusses Harry Potter from the point of view of literary theory. It reviews the different traditions (Anglo-American, Czech, Slovak) in defining and describing fantasy literature and fantasy for children. In the Czech and Slovak literary contexts, there is a tendency to view works similar to Harry Potter as fairy tales with fantastic elements. Chapter 2 reviews the field of translation studies with respect to translation of children's literature. It develops the thesis introduced by the skopos theory which views changes as an inherent part of the trans lati on proces s. Hence, in children' s literature, the changes needed to accommodate the target language reader are considered part of the translator' s strategy and a sign of the translator' s...

Problematics of Creole languages: example of Capverdian Creole
