The king and the pilgrim. To the question of the identity of the characters in the Italian novels of the 20th century

This work is focussed on the question of problematic identity of literary characters. The characters are chosen from the modern italian novels to show the theme of crisis of a human identity as a constitutive element for the literature of the twentieth century. The first novel which is being interpreted and compared is "Un re umorista" by modernist Alberto Cantoni. The main character of this novel is the king of noname country who feels his "king's" identity as a role, only a mask. He considered himslef as two different persons, but one of them, the king, is not authentic, real. The second novel, called Il fu Mattia Pascal by Luigi Pirandello, is the story of the identity as a social sign and its loss. The identity of human being in Pirandello's conception is closely linked with a society and its rules and law. To have an identity means to be a part of society, community, family and the only meaning of identity is the social meaning. Mattia Pascal lose his identity when he is said to be dead. At fisrt he finds his situation as a challenge and new chance to be free, to start a new life and create it from basis on his own. He made a new identity for himself with a fictitious past and name. The Jewish mystique in Bruno Schulz's prose

Diplomová práce Židovská mystika v próze Bruna Schulze se věnuje vztahu Schulze, polského autora meziválečného období, ke kabale, tedy židovské mystické tradici. Je pokusem analyzovat vybrané aspekty Schulzovy prózy ve světle kabalistických představ. Hlavní tematické okruhy tvoří jednak textualizace světa a metafora světa jako textu, včetně symbolu Knihy, jednak otázka (s)tvoření a obrazy, s jejichž pomocí Schulz buduje svůj literární svět. Součástí práce je rovněž stručný přehled dosavadního stavu bádání týkajícího se daného tématu, představení metodologických východisek a krátké shrnutí vztahu Bruna Schulze nejen ke kabale, ale k židovství obecně.

Disertační práce Mythologie und Geschichte. Studien zur deutschen Prosa der Romantik und der frühen Nachkriegszeit (1945-1953) se zabývá integrací mytologických prvků do literárního obrazu dějin. Hlavním předmětem je poválečná německá literatura, vzhledem k významu německého romantismu pro koncepce literárního mytologismu i pro interpretovaná díla je zařazena studie k romantickým konceptům mytologie. Úvodní diskuse ukazuje vývoj moderního pojmu mýtu od antropologických konceptů, jež shrnuje do kategorie 'mytické epistémé'(L. Lévy-Bruhl, E. Cassirer, M. Eliade), přes strukturální analýzu (C. Lévi-Strauss) až k historizaci pojmu mýtu v paradigmatech literární historie a "dějin idejí", k nimž patří i preferovaný koncept G. von Graevenitze. Studie věnovaná romantismu ukazuje kontinuitu mezi ranými koncepty tzv. "nové mytologie" (F. Schlegel, Schelling) a diskurzem o mýtu v pozdějších fázích (A. von Arnim, J. Grimm). Interpretace próz Heinrich von Ofterdingen F. von Hardenberga (Novalise), Der goldne Topf E.T.A. Title: Non-specific preparation of figure skaters (5-14 years of age) during preparation period Purpose of paper: In the diploma paper I am going to focus on the issue of non-specific preparation of figure skaters. I would like to point out the importance of establishing a wide basis of agility abilities in children (from the ages of 5 to 14) during training season. The purpose of this work is to create a model of non-specific preparation of children, which emphasizes the main non-specific agility abilities for later peak performance training of figure skaters. These include balance, coordination, flexibility, endurance, speed, and strength. These qualifications determine the measure of exact execution of specific elements on the ice (jumps, step variations, pirouettes, and spirals). It is clear that these agility abilities are interconnected in a direct and indirect way. By creating a coherent training approach, these connections can be discovered, named, and included in the preparation structure. The methods: The method of literature research was utilized for this work. The story of diverse readings. Reception of Kundera's novel Žert (The Joke) and Třetí sešit směšných lásek (Laughable Loves) in Czech and German speaking context

Reakce publika na Kunderův román Žert a Směšné lásky248 (opět reakce zejména na Třetí sešit směšných lásek) byly velmi různorodé. Žert pochopilo publikum českého prostředí jako historické svědectví o událostech padesátých a začátku šedesátých let. V procesu imaginárního dialogu mezi románem a publikem vyvstala hodnota dobového dokumentu, který velmi specifickým, důmyslně pojatým a detailně promyšleným způsobem promluvil o historických událostech padesátých let. Milan Kundera skrze svůj román Žert nabídl publiku jednu z prvních otevřených reflexí této doby. Recepční proces byl rozpoután, Žert se prakticky ihned stal ikonou českého poválečného literárního vývoje, od Zbabělců Josefa Škvoreckého ikonou zřejmě nejpřekvapivější. Publikum ihned přisoudilo románu svébytné místo v literárním kontextu. Recepční proces, jak ukázaly jeho doklady, však téměř opomněl upozornit na literární kvality románu. Často je sice v ohlasech české recepce Žertu zdůrazněn význam polyfonní kompozice románu, důležitost postav; román ale nebyl viděn ve své pravé románové podstatě: jako dílo, které na rozsáhlé ploše zpracovává a osvětluje jednak téma událostí padesátých let, jednak téma identity člověka ve společnosti, a které zpracováním těchto témat nutí své publikum k emocionální zainteresovanosti. In the short story maze - Serbian authors of the middle generation at the dusk of 20th century

Nahlédnout do literární situace doby nedávno minulé ve státě, který si právě zažil největší zvraty v oblasti ekonomické, politické, kulturní i společenské od doby 2. světové války bude hlavním úkolem této práce. Odpovědět na otázku, proč jsme pro literární bádání zvolili právě žánr povídky, se pokusíme hned na počátku. Srbská povídka je velmi bohatý literární žánr s dlouhou tradicí, a proto jsme si jednu jeho část vybrali pro tuto práci. Jde o žánr, který je možná v současné době do jisté míry vytlačován jinými a zda je toto tvrzení pravdivé či ne, se pokusíme zjistit. Cílem této práce je představit srbskou povídku posledních dvaceti let 20. století, a to na základě vlastních analýz povídkové tvorby sedmi současných autorů. Otázkou, na kterou bychom chtěli najít odpověď je, zda není povídka, coby literární forma v současné době v Srbsku vlivem románu příliš upozaděna. Dalším úkolem je srovnat vývoj povídky ve vztahu k románu a novele v srbské literatuře a zjistit převahu jednoho či druhého žánru v jednotlivých etapách vývoje srbské literatury respektive vývoj srbské literatury v průběhu 2. poloviny 20. století a vliv jednotlivých směrů na žánr povídky v posledních dvaceti letech minulého století.

Aspects of Linguistic Variability in Tamil Short Fiction (Aspekty jazykové variability v tamilské krátké próze) Zuzana Vihanová Abstract This thesis examines the linguistic variability of contemporary Tamil short fiction. Based on the concept of markedness, it explores the distribution, structure, and function of standard, substandard, and superstandard linguistic varieties used in current Tamil writings. It concentrates on both individual and collective aspects of the use of this diglossic language in literature. The source-base for the analysis are short stories of seven Tamil authors of different social dialectal background. Authors and their texts recruit from the Brahmin, non-Brahmin and Dalit milieu. Historical perspective is brought into attention in the analysis of writings of Pudumaippittan, one of the first distinguished short-story writers. I observe the shift in the semantic markednes of literary and spoken Tamil use in his work, the introduction of the Pillai dialect into literature and its infiltration to the literary language, same as the impact of the outside sources, i.e., English and Sanskrit, on his writing. Literary Response Activities in Teaching Literature

The diploma thesis Literary Response Activities in Teaching Literature deals with the application of literary response in Czech schools. Literary response is defined on the basis of Louise Rosenblatt's transactional theory. The theoretical part explains by which means response activities can enrich teaching literature as they influence motivation, creativity, memorising, aesthetic perception and aesthetic fading. The supportive arguments for the application are also found in Framework Educational Programs for the secondary level. Other chapters focus on the practical approach. There are methods for successful introduction of responding in a classroom, such as making rules, process modeling and rules for creative education. They are followed by several activities described in detail, e.g. dramatization, story mapping, reading logs etc. The author tested the theoretical knowledge in teaching practice, and the last part depicts her experience. The Appendices contain a few useful worksheets on response activities.

Personality and work of Gejza Vámoš in historical, social and linguistic context

My thesis decribes the historical and politi cal situation in Czechoslovakia between 1918 and 1956, as illustrated in a life story of first Jewish - Slovak author Gejza Vámoš. On a historical and linquistic background I follow the most important moments ofhis work. Following the ideas of a formal literary critisism starting in the early years of Czechoslovakia coming to the controversary formulations of recent critics. I also try to formulate the rules of judging Vamoš' s expressionist style and language in close relation to his specific situation in the "literary playground". The very important role in understanding the specific features of his "asimilated jewish mentality" is part of historical section of my work. The relating unit of whole work is tragic life story of doctor Gejza Vámoš. My work is devided in four main parts. In the first part of my work I have tried to reveal the mystery of very complicated and strong personality of Gejza Vámoš. Folloving part of his correspondence with Hana Gregorova uncovers part of his friendly and unknown personality and understanding for his close ones.
