Manipulation, disinformation and faults in television news

The thesis considers with balance and objectivity of the main news program of Česká televize. It tries to unfold inaccurate coverages, being transmitted in Události from september 2009 until december 2009. Inadequacies are further described and analysed in detail. Based on personal judgement, there is a possible reason and inflictor stated. The objective of this thesis is to point out Inadequacies in main news service of statutory television from view of objectivity, balance, correctness and other faults. Further provides aspects, which are the most frequent purpose of making faults. Thesis supplements monthly reports of Czech info company, which judges balance of news service only in constrained scale. The results of analysis provides valueable ratings of Události not only for television management, but for redactors themselves and other members of news team. The thesis doesn't lack even consideration about possibility of minimalisation the mentioned inadequacies. The source of information and data are articles, documents from Česká televize database, news service online archiv and experience from working in news room ČT. First part of thesis is concentrated on theoretical base. Serves to understand the whole problematics and as starting point for rest of the thesis. Even contains practical examples of manipulation and disinformation from the past and present. Second part describes the way of investigation of Česká televize news service and defines criteria of ratings. Third part of the thesis summarises results of the analysis, judges frequency and importance of inadequacies in news service and summarises their characteristics and elimination possibility. Conclusion summarises knowledge of the thesis, their comments, and enrichment from ČT news room experience.

Simulation of the Transmission Channels for the Digital Television DVB-T/H

This thesis focuses on analysis, classification, simulation and assessment of the signal fading in the scope of terrestrial digital television reception. This is a phenomenon associated with signal multipath propagation caused by the reflection, dispersion and diffraction of electromagnetic waves in interaction with relief and artificial obstacles. Wave propagation issues in a specific landscape are not the central theme of this project. Signal transmission between the transmitter and receiver is defined by channel profile models. Attention is directed not only to static reception but also to portable and mobile reception. Simulation of this phenomenon takes place in the software environment of MATLAB. In the framework of this project program fundament was created which allows simulate the signal processing across the entire communication chain of television broadcasting, including its transmitting and receiving parts.

The Language and Style of Czech Tabloid Press

The diploma thesis `The Language and Style of Czech Tabloid Press{\crq} explores verbal, graphic and ideographical devices used in the present tabloid press (Aha!, Blesk, ŠÍP). The aim of this diploma thesis is to find and evaluate these language devices. The thesis is based on the analysis of language material collected over the period of one year, from December 2007 to November 2008. It deals with the headlines, their types and functions in the text, with the selection of the photographs in relation to the information presented, and with the themes which are typical of the tabloid press. The main part of the thesis analyses lexical units (such as a parable, a personification, a metaphor, an allusion, evaluative adjectives, set expressions, expressive words, neologisms, loan words etc.) and evaluates them in term of their suitability. The introductory part of the thesis contains explanation of terminology and a brief history of tabloid press. The thesis is not divided into a separate theoretical and practical part; instead each chapter contains theoretical explanation followed by authentic examples illustrating the point.

Picture Quality Analysis in Digital Television Systems

Diploma thesis deals with the analysis of quality in digital television systems and contains theoretical description of subjective and objective assessment of quality picture methods. The thesis contains short-term and long-term analysis of quality picture of terrestrial television DVB-T. Measurements and experimentations were carried out with the help of Rohde&Schwarz DVQ analyzer of picture quality and software MPEG-2 Quality Monitor and MPEG-2 Elementary stream analyzer.

Language politics in the Czech public media from the point of view of a phonetician

The paper is focused on the language culture and language management in the field of the Czech public mass media (Czech Television and Czech Radio). It is indisputable that the professional speakers from these mass media play a role of so called model speakers for the users of the Czech language. The article deals with the question how the mass media monitor the quality of the oral speeches, if they co-operate with some language consulters, etc. It shows also one of the methods used for the evaluation of the oral speeches. The attention will be devoted especially on the phonetic aspect of the speeches.

Television Youth Club 1973-1984: motives, agents, ideology.

The topic of this thesis is a journalistic program Television Youth Club between 1973 and 1984. The thesis investigates establishment of broadcast for children and young till 1968. The next part of the thesis discusses Main redaction for children and young between 1973 and 1984 - its composition, creation and feedback from audience. But the main topic of the thesis is the Television Youth Club. It observes its formation and evolution, analyzes topics of program and their ideology. It stops at the creative team, traces audience feedback as well as evaluation from higher authorities and elimination of some members of the team. On this program thesis wants to show how the programs were created in Czechoslovak television and what atmosphere was there. And it tries to disprove that in Czechoslovak television were created only poor-quality and superficial ideological works in that period. It has always depended on team of people - how they deal with their task of program. The moderator's function in TV news programs, the criterions of his evaluation ...

The spectators incline to judge the whole medium by news broadcast because of its importance . Reporting has privileged status in program structure of almost every TV station. The main reporting broadcast is groundwork of station's program quotation . Contrary to the another programs which depend on age, gender, taste, education, interest and other subjective and objective factors of the specific watcher, the reporting is the genre, that speaks to the widest spectrum of the audience (with exception of the children). This is the reason why the public presentation of the reporting moderator's is so important. Work of the whole editorial team is presented by moderator's appearance. His performance can influence how the watcher accepts the information. A main function of the moderator is to establish contact with the viewer and to keep his attention while watching the news. Competition and concentration of the Czech banking market using the Competitive Intelligence

The thesis focuses on the competition and concentration of the Czech banking market, using the Competitive Intelligence tools to gain and maintain the competitive advantage. Assessment of the domestic banking market concentration is based on the results of indicators, such as the concentration ratio and Herfindahl Hirschman Index. On the basis of the degree of the competition among the subjects in this segment the attention is given to the process of the Competitive Intelligence which, if implemented properly in the company structure, ensures the bank to gain and maintain the competitive advantage. Possible areas of interest are also mentioned, systematic monitoring of these areas enables the bank to take timely actions responding to changes in the competitor strategy and leading to improve relationships with clients.

Presentation of the Winter Olympic Games in TV Sport News with Focus on Gender Issues

Název práce: Prezentace zimních olympijských her v televizních zpravodajstvích s důrazem na gender problematiku Title : Presentation of The Winter Olympic games in TV sport news with focus on Gender problematic Cíl práce: Cílem výzkumu bylo kvantitativní hodnocení prezentace zimních olympijských her ve zpravodajství veřejnoprávní televizní stanice České televize a komerční televizní stanice TV Nova. To vše s důrazem na gender problematiku. Tento hlavní cíl pro objektivní posouzení byl diskutován také s ohledem na počty českých účastníků mužů a žen a jejich úspěšnost na ZOH 2006. Metody práce: Data byla získávána pomocí obsahové analýzy mediálních sdělení sportovních televizních relací v době konání 20. zimních olympijských her v Turíně 2006. Data jsem získala cestou podrobných měření jednotlivých úseků zpravodajství a zanášením získaných údajů do předem připravených tabulek dle kódového klíče. V celém výzkumu se pracovalo s časovou jednotkou - vteřina. Výsledky: Porovnání prezentace zimních olympijských her na vybraných televizních stanicích, porovnání celkového času věnovanému ženám a mužům v rámci zpravodajských relací, přehled účasti českých mužů žen na ZOH 2006, jejich úspěšnost v rámci jednotlivých disciplín.
