Alice Bala The Gniezno Cathedral Door - iconography of St. Adalbert in medieval times and in the context of middle Europe The Door, although we do not know much of those who made them, is believed to be founded in the 1170's and 1180's. They constitute of eighteen panels or rectangles, nine on each side of the door's wings. All of them feature a part of story from the life of St. Adalbert. They are a very complex piece of craftsmenship. In my study I have tried to analyze them mainly from an iconographic and also historic point of view. This study further pays attention to the question of a St. Adalbert religious cult, which appeared in Europe almost emidiately after his death in 997. This religious cult of a saint blossomed in the medieval times namely in Poland, Hungary and the Czech lands. With a use of domestic and foreign language literature on this theme, I have made an attempt to show the latest tendencies in this field. The aim of the thesis is to outline the social reality and the everyday life of Prague working class between the two world wars. Prague, which was at that time changing into a modern city with growing population, was also the city with the largest number of workers in Czechoslovakia. We have especially focused on working-class families, health and sexual issues, living conditions, cultural life, political attitudes and education. In the thesis, archive sources of the period have been used, namely those of organizations dealing with workers or workers' own organizations like political parties, labour unions or interest groups. Another source of data is a qualitative sociological research of witnesses. The analysis of statistical data, periodicals of that time and other literature have also been employed. We have attempted to show the Prague working class with its rich diversity, as a very heterogenous group merging with other social classes. Apart from social differences, we have emphasized the impact of gender and generation on the everyday life of Prague working class.

Němcová, Lucie ; Grygar, Jakub (advisor) ; Hájek, Martin (referee)
This thesis concerns an alternative approach to the alcohol-addiction treatment within the fellowship of Alcoholics Anonymous and highlights the importance of self-help groups in the contemporary society. This worldwide biggest self-help group uses sociologically important processes to achieve a new way of life connected with sobriety. I have studied these processes through the participant observation. Alcoholics Anonymous influences its members through its specific culture which reflects in group rituals, high level of group affiliation, spirituality and co-constructed community story, which bears the member's knowledge. This thesis looks on the transition to identity of the sober alcoholic and the new way of living according to Twelve-Step program of Alcoholics Anonymous through the perspective of drift model of conversion, transition rituals or principles used in the narrative therapy. Within these processes there occurs radical reconstruction of perceptual, cognitive and behavioral schemes which influence the meanings in the interpretation of everyday life and consecutively change the identity of the individual and his social action. These changes of the individual are strengthened by the group members and then gradually spread out of the group boundaries too.

The Media Influence on Transformation of Democracy
Půlpánová, Barbora ; Pehe, Jiří (advisor) ; Slačálek, Ondřej (referee)
Mass media has always played the key role in democratic process. They are not only the indicator of its right functioning, but also the iniciator. From historical point of view is obvious, that technological progress and changes in the way of informing people were related to the political area. But with the increasing role of media, they changed their position from pure mediators of informations to the main actors of social and political life. The ‚old' media, such as newspapers, radio and television, are therefore partly responsible for commercialization of the public sphere and also for its depolitization. With contribution of the globalization effect on today's world, which causes besides other things the weakening of the nation state, there are only a little of the key democratic aspects left. Some find the solution in the ‚new' media represented by the Internet and social media, which are more interactive so they could get the citizens back to the game. And right in the increase of civic engagement see the theorists the potencial for creating a new democratic order based on high-level participation. KEY WORDS Mass media, Democracy, Public Sphere, Civic Engagement, Internet, Social media, Participative Democracy, Deliberative Democracy
