"Very much a woman of reason and propriety": Ann Radcliffe's female gothic romances and their eighteenth-century contexts
Klosová, Kateřina ; Nováková, Soňa (advisor) ; Kolinská, Klára (referee)
In 1977 Ellen Moers in her Literary Women coined "Female Gothic" as a new term in literary criticism. In this she seemed to be laying the foundation for a new conception and specific way of thinking about women writers as related to the Gothic genre. Moers in her critical book on women's writing claims that the Female Gothic is "easily defined: the work that women writers have done in the literary mode that, since the eighteenth century, we have called the Gothic"1. Nevertheless, along with other terms, Female Gothic was quickly adopted by the feminist critics and especially during the eighties of the twentieth century its interpretation underwent distinct changes. As Avril Horner and Sue Zlosnik observe, since the late seventies "it has been increasingly acknowledged that women writers have made use of the non-realist Gothic mode in order to explore the problematic nature of female subjectivity in Western patriarchal culture"2. Thus, what was originally conceived of as a specific coinage for the Gothic novels distinct by their female authorship, became a term encompassing the specificities of both woman style of writing and of the woman character as a means for the exploration of female experience. The application of the term became more focused and consequently rather limited in the late 1980s. This was...

Flexible forms of employment

The bachelor thesis is focused on flexible forms of the employment throughout the Czech Republic. It focuses on one of flexible employment types - homeworking. The work is divided into three parts - the theoretical part, the practical part and the conclusion. In the theoretical part the flexibility, the flexible modes and the effects resulting from the use of work from home are defined. The practical part focuses specifically on the homeworking. This part is based on the research, which was carried out by a detailed questionnaire. In the final section the realized research is evaluated through hypotheses and a personal perspective. The aim of this bachelor thesis is to determine through the hypotheses the preferences of different groups of employees or students concerning homeworking. In the conclusion the results of the research are summarized.

Situation and dilemma of the Pakistani immigration in Great Britain
Krylová, Irma ; Marek, Jan (referee) ; Kropáček, Luboš (advisor)
This thesis is about the current situation and dilemma of Pakistani immigration in Great Britain. It started in the 1950's but it didn't become a relevant political question until the 1980's, because of minorities' growing requirements. Due to the differences in habits, culture and religion from the British lifestyle, it creates anxiety and disatisfaction in the society. This thesis is focused mainly on communuty identity. It considers the changing lifestyle of three generations. For muslims, Islam is everything and it pervades their entire lives. The first part of this thesis is rather theoretical and introduces several different model s of integration and immigration. Great Britain represents a bifurcationist model, in which immigrants are supposed to respect english institutions and culture, but still may follow their tradidtions in their private lives. The second part is focused on education, employment and religious life, which is specific and rich, because it reflects movements and trends coming from Pakistan. Emphasis is given mainly to the requirements specifically related to religion which conflicts with british and western society. In the third part, negative trends are discussed which Pakistani are faced with in their daily existence. This is not only physical violence and islamophobic offences...

Social exclusion in Central-Bohemia region and Hradec Kralove region, its evolution, characteristics and possible models of social work in these areas

Process models of semantic web
Podzimek, Michal ; Dědek, Jan (referee) ; Zavoral, Filip (advisor)
The aim of this work is to explore the possibility of using the process models in the world of semantic web and the increase utilization of information from the semantic web. This software aims to add a lot of useful functionality to Trisolda, the infrastructure of the semantic web. It was analyzed that proposing of distributed system based on semantic services technology is an appropriate solution. The collaboration of several services is best described by the word "orchestration" that mean operating of executers by the conductor. BPEL (Business Process Execution Language) language is used for formalization of various processes. The proposed architecture is enlarged by pilot implementation that goal is to examine possible technologies that can be used to the realization. Several BPEL execution engines were tried before ActiveVOS platform was chosen as the most suitable one. The use of this platform is described in this work. The description of applied technologies and the confrontation with other existing projects is also a part of this thesis.

Determinants of youth unemployment
Lakotová, Lenka ; Slaný, Martin (advisor) ; Brožová, Dagmar (referee)
This thesis deals with the determinants of youth unemployment It uses the panel data regression analysis of EU countries. The work assembled models with the dependent variable the unemployment rate and the model is estimated for each demographic group. The models are represented by institutional variables, the macro-economic variables, demographic variables and variables representing education. The goal is to prove or disprove the hypothesis that individual determinants affect differently to the youth unemployment rate and unemployment rate of main age group. Partial task is to answer the question whether more significant determinants of unemployment rate are institutional or macro-economic determinants. The result of the analysis work is that institutional factors are not important determinants of unemployment rate. Conversely, macro-economic variables, GDP growth and inflation are significant determinants. Significant determinants are also variables representing education. The estimated coefficients of these significant determinants and variables employment labor protection and the tax rate are higher for young people than for the main age group. However, there was not found determinant that would be robustly more significant for youth than for main age group.

Simulation of toroid coils in Ansoft Maxwell 3D
Daněk, Michal ; Pfeifer, Václav (referee) ; Hanák, Pavel (advisor)
The master thesis is focused on the simulation of the toroid coils in Ansoft Maxwell 3D software, which uses finite element method for electromagnetic field simulation. Firstly the process creation of the geometric model toroid coil with seventy-five threaded is presented. It is necessary to debug this model and prepare it for the mesh generation. Physical properties are assign to this model and it gives rise to the physical model. We will set boundaries, excitation current, core material, winding material and the parameters for the mesh generations. New material Kashke K4000 will be created in the materials library and subsequently we will define its BH curve on the basis of datasheet. Analysis is made in two modes. Direct currents (7,5A; 10A; 15A; 20A; 25A) and (non)linear materials are used in magnetostatic solution. Toroid coil is excited by current pulse in transient solution. In Ansoft Maxwell Circuit editor a source which generates current pulse will be created. This excitation will be assigned to the toroid coil as an extern source through a terminal. Core material is linear in the case of transient analysis, because Ansoft Maxwell 3D doesn´t allow to use nonlinear material in this solution. Settings are different in transient and in magnetostatic analysis. End time and time step are entered to solve this task in transient analysis. Time points are entered too. Flux density and electromagnetic field strength are calculated in these time points and later it will be possible to view the results. Calculated fields are shown as the pictures in this thesis. The procedure how to use a field calculator in the postprocessing is given as well. The achievements are summarized in the conclusion.
