Contemporary central banks usually have powers such as issuing cash money, conducting monetary policy, regulation and supervision of the banking sector. Central banks compile their balance sheets, which are statements of the amount and structure of assets and liabilities. Gold is among the items that appear on central bank balance sheets. It explains concepts such as the pure standard and the modified gold standard, which covers the gold bullion standard, the gold reserve standard and the gold exchange standard. The third chapter describes the evolution of the gold standard since the 1930s when monetary blocks, consisting of states with similiar views on the continuation of the gold standard, were formed. These included the gold...

This bachelor thesis focuses on the Bretton Woods monetary system which was the important factor influencing the international economic situation since the end of World War II until the beginning of the 1970s. Specifically, the thesis focuses on the analysis of factors which led to the collapse of the Bretton Woods monetary system and tries to answer the question if the main reason of the collapse was irresponsible fiscal policy of the USA. In the first part, there is a description of creation, final version of the Bretton Woods agreement, and key institutions of the system. Main part of thesis is divided into the three subchapters. Each one adresses one of the three major problems of the Bretton Woods monetary system, which were adjustment problem, liquidity problem, and confidence problem. Conclusion of the thesis is the statement that fiscal policy of the USA was not either underlying, or original cause of the collapse of the system, however the fiscal policy of the USA worsened the situation and greatly accelerated the collapse of the system. Langmajer, Jakub ; Soběhart, Radek (advisor) ; Stellner, František (referee)
In my bachelor work I will try to analyze in light of political, military and economical point of view the grounds of appeasement policy genesis during interwar period in Britain. I used hypothesis of supremacy of domestic policy, which influenced steps following this policy supporters in the interwar period as a measure for final classification of this policy of appeasement. These items arouse a serious discussion even in present-day period. Were the supporters of "apeasement" only cowards, who were not able to defy the growing totalitarian regime danger in the world or were they politicians of vision, who considered future battle as inevitable and therefore they tried to win as much time as possible for rearmament and war preparation.

What Has Government Done to Our Money : Do we necessarily need the Central Bank?
Jandová, Daniela ; Antoš, Ondřej (advisor) ; Štěpánek, Pavel (referee)
Based on inspiration of F. A. Hayek's book "Denationalisation of Money" and a book "What Has Government Done to Our Money" written by Murray N. Rothbard, this work wants to show how can a market with several currencies work. These authors from Austrian school introduce little controversial and for many people unimaginable theme to have banking system without the key role of Central Bank. This also closely related with Hayek's reason of business cycle, which he find in continuous interference with monetary reserves. The work controverts a topic, if it is not just the central banks and a system, which allows fiducially issue money, which caused the actual crises. The point, if a monetary policy of central banks has only caused fluctuations of economy, is still actually. This baccalaurean work deals with questions like: How did the Government interfere with sphere of money? Should we leave the Gold Standard? Would a competition between banks issuing their own currencies work? and many other.
K vývoji amerických financí za velké hospodářské krize
Obonyová, Zuzana ; Stellner, František (advisor) ; Tajovský, Ladislav (referee)
Diplomová práce se věnuje popisu a analýze chování institucí finančního sektoru, tj. komerčního a centrálního bankovnictví USA v období Velké hospodářské krize. Věnuje se též problematikám omezení ?branch bankingu?, bankovním panikám a ?uvěrové expanze?. Z časového hlediska je téma diskutovaná do vyhlášení ?bankovních prázdnin? a přijetí zákona The Banking Act z roku 1933.
