Mihulková, Šárka ; Tichá, Libuše (advisor) ; Kopecká, Věra (referee)
The thesis is concerned with methodological specifics of beginner piano teaching of students at different age levels. It attempts to give a complex view of its various aspects. The thesis is subdivided into several chapters, drawing on available psychological and methodological literature, piano course books and a questionnaire survey. The first chapter focuses on a beginner piano learner as an individual undergoing a particular stage of psychological development. It explores learners' general as well as music- specific characteristics and links these characteristics to piano playing. In addition, it describes motivational tendencies prevailing at different development stages, and other factors which can substantially influence the learning process, but have not hitherto been discussed with respect to piano teaching in greater detail although a pedagogue can more easily deal with potential problems that may arise at beginner levels when thoroughly informed. It namely discusses learning and teaching styles, hindrances to learning and learning disabilities. The second chapter is devoted to methodological specifics of teaching learners of different age groups. The third chapter then expands on the subject of beginner piano teaching specifics, comparing techniques used in beginner piano books aimed at various...
Continuing Beginner Learners in Adult EFL Classes
Mihulková, Šárka ; Hofmannová, Marie (advisor) ; Dvořák, Bohuslav (referee)
This thesis deals with the issue of teaching continuing beginners in adult EFL classes. It focuses on the description of factors that may influence the learning stagnation among these learners, and it attempts to ascertain the extent to which these factors take effect. Consequently, the thesis aims to characterize Czech continuing beginners as an independent group of learners and to provide scientific evidence which could clarify the assumptions, underlying the continuing-beginner concept. Lastly, but importantly, the thesis also intends to instigate further research in the field. The subject was investigated from the perspective of available pedagogical, andragogcial and psychological literature. Accordingly, four major factors, which may be at the root of continuing-beginner phenomenon, were identified: a mismatch between learning and teaching styles, insufficient study motivation, hindrances to learning and learning disabilities. These four areas were further focused on in a questionnaire survey, using rating scales to determine the importance of the individual areas. The study worked with three hypotheses. Firstly, continuing beginners were expected to report difficulties in at least two of the established areas. Secondly, it was presupposed that the rate of learning disabilities would be somewhat...

Mertová, Sára ; Uličná, Klára (advisor) ; Žďárek, Karel (referee)
This diploma thesis aims at presenting principles and techniques of giving instructions during English lessons and their practical use. It stresses the awareness of the importance of delivering clear and understandable instructions and of their influence on students' comprehension. Theoretical part of this thesis describes general rules of giving instructions and focuses on instruction techniques suitable for students' learning styles. It also deals with the language of instruction appropriate for A1 - A2 level students. Practical part consists of applying the theoretical principals in practice through an action research. The aim of the practical part is the improvement of the author's instructions. The findings have shown that modifying the language of instruction as well as using various verbal and non- verbal instruction techniques promotes the students' comprehension of instructions. Key words: Language acquisition, comprehensible input, language of instruction, students' comprehension, learning styles, gestures, action research, instructions
The gifted pupils' learning strategies at the Primary School
Kotrčová, Alžběta ; Mazáčová, Nataša (advisor) ; Krčmářová, Tereza (referee)
The diploma thesis deals with the learning styles in a connection with the teaching strategies, especially their use by the gifted pupils from the fifth year of the primary school. The theoretical part describes the concepts of learning style and learning strategies from the several authors' point of view of, but it also deals with the characteristic features of a talented pupil in the younger school age. The theoretical part prepares the reader to understand the empirical part, which is crucial for the diploma thesis. The subject of the study is a group of eight gifted pupils from the fifth grade of the primary school who are attending an educational program for the exceptionally gifted pupils. The aim of the empirical part is to analyze pupils' own preference of the learning strategies and to map their situation. Thanks to the methods of the research such as the interviews, an observation, methods for developing the learning strategies and a questionnaire research, the goal of the qualitative empirical work has been fully achieved. After a month of work with the gifted pupils and their classmates, I have found that their own choice of the learning strategies is greatly influenced by the inner motivation, an in-depth learning style, a strategic learning style, and overall approach to the learning...
Usefulness of visual aids and other teaching methods and techniques for learning selected areas of Czech orthography by foreign pupils with regard to styles and types of learning
Bařtipánová, Petra ; Horáčková, Klára (advisor) ; Laufková, Veronika (referee)
The diploma thesis focuses on how it is suitable for pupils with different mother tongue to learn selected orthographic phenomena. The aim of the thesis is to find out which activities or methods the teacher can use to achieve the highest memorability of orthographic phenomena by pupils with a different mother tongue with respect to their teaching types and styles. High attention is paid to the method of working with visual aids. This diploma thesis focuses on problematic orthographic phenomena taught from the third to the fifth year of elementary school, which are difficult to justify for pupils with a different mother tongue. To achieve the highest quality of research several qualitative methods were used, namely observation, testing and semi-structured interviews with pupils and class teachers. The knowledge presented in the theoretical part of the thesis is an important basis for the processing of the empirical part itself. Within the empirical part, I elaborated a case study of nine pupils with a different mother tongue. The results of the survey show that the ready-made visual aids helped most pupils. During preparation of three lessons, I took into account all the learning types and styles, which proved to be effective. On the other hand, the dominance of type or style has not always been...
Learning styles of students of English in Higher Education
FILOVÁ, Eva
This thesis is concerned with learning styles of students of English at Faculty of Education of the University of South Bohemia in České Budějovice. Its aim is to find out whether the students are aware of their perceptual learning style (auditory, visual, kinesthetic), which activities they use to encourage English language development (watching films or reading books in English, listening music, practising language on the Internet,), which type of environment they prefer and whether they are satisfied with teaching styles of their professors. A specifically made non-standardized questionnaire is used as a method of research. The thesis is traditionally divided into theoretical and practical parts. The theoretical part deals with a profile of basic terms related to the topic, classification of learning styles and possible ways of their diagnostics. The practical part is focused on the analysis of questionnaire research, whose findings are graphically demonstrated in diagrams with comments.

Červinková, Kateřina ; Voňková, Hana (advisor) ; Zvírotský, Michal (referee)
The diploma thesis is aimed at further education as one of the possible means of combating the burnout syndrome of pedagogues. It is divided into two main parts, theoretical and practical. These sections are then subdivided into chapters and subchapters. In the theoretical part of the thesis I focus on teachers as an overall concept, more specifically on the personality traits of teachers, their key competences, the position of teachers in the Czech Republic, the development of their professional career, their education and the possibilities for further education. We also define what supervisors are, what types and forms we know, we will also look at supervision processes and their competencies. We will also discuss what the social environment is in school. In the second part of the theoretical part, we also look at the burnout syndrome, its theoretical definition, the symptoms associated with it, its manifestations and its consequences, we will also mention the risk factors for its formation and give us some possibilities of preventing the burnout syndrome. The practical part includes research that I did at selected schools in Chrudim. The main aim of this diploma thesis is to compare the incidence of burnout assumptions in schools with different approaches to education.
