Sally Mann and David Hamilton. Comparison in the context of nymphet archetype and its photographic representations.
Sekta, Karol ; Vančát, Pavel (advisor) ; JANOŠČÍK, Václav (referee)
Thesis would be based on deep studies conducted on two photographers - Sally Mann and David Hamilton. The form of work is going to be a result of comparison of two creative paths which led artists to very the same effect (and provoke quite the same questions of perversity/legality/aesthetics/kitsch). Even if photographers acted in completely different intentions(presenting directly opposite approaches to art piece as such), still they have a lot in common. In result I would deposit this specific relation between two circles (represented strongly by two mentioned artists) on this quite specific dualism of motherhood-like and intimate approach of Sally Mann depictions contrary to David Hamilton's aggressive, straightly sexual way of photographing his young "subjects-objects".
The phenomenon of writers committing suicide
Bechyňová, Laura ; Šípek, Jiří (advisor) ; Najbrtová, Kristina (referee)
This bachelor thesis discusses the phenomenon of writers commiting suicide. Firstly, the theoretical part describes suicide as a psychological phenomenon and presents the risk factors and forms of suicidal behaviour. Great attention is given to the relation between creativity, mental disorders and suicide. Viewegh's concept of bilance suicide among writers is also presented, followed by various research projects focusing on the possible causes of writers taking their own lives. Various studies show that there is a higher percentage of suicide among writers, and especially among poets, than among other artistic careers. The key question of this thesis is whether or not is this "suicidal language" of writers displayed in their works. The psychological analysis of a literary work (e.g. linguistic predictor of suicide) is dedicated to finding answers to this question. Lastly, the limits of previous studies are presented at the end of the theoretical part of this thesis. The empirical part presents a proposal of a research project which aims to replicate previous study on prose texts. Possible limits of this research design as well as possible further research proposals are presented in the discussion. Keywords: suicide, creativity, mental disorders, writers, linguistic predictor of suicide

The first chapter of this thesis analyzes the history of book publishing and many different ways to publish a book, and defines self-publishing. The second chapter shows how the new technologies and media influenced the expansion of self-publishing. The third chapter analyzes and puts into context some of the Czech and the American self-publishing portals, and compares the providers of these services. Many professionals - editors, authors, and literary critics - criticize self-publishing for its amateurism and low quality content, which this work takes into account as well. This paper also documents some of the rare cases of self-published authors, who managed to succeed despite the tough competition from traditional publishing houses. In the last chapter the whole process of self-publishing...
