Janovská, Markéta ; Jirků, Jan (advisor) ; Šimková, Karolína (referee)
This diploma thesis entitled New media as a means of obtaining information among secondary school students deals with the role of new media in obtaining information among students of the second year of grammar schools and non-grammar school types of secondary schools. The aim of the thesis is to find out what news consumption looks like among secondary school students, whether they get information only through new media, or if some of them turn to traditional media as well. The theoretical part of the thesis describes what new media look like today, or whether they can be an easier means of spreading disinformation. Part of the work is devoted to how different authors view media literacy. The topic of the theoretical part is also the news consumption of young people - what means media literacy, whether young people are able to distinguish between information and disinformation, and that problematic media use can, in the worst case, end up in cyberbullying. The analytical section is devoted to a questionnaire survey, which was carried out among students of the second year of secondary schools in seven regions. 314 students in the respective regional towns participated in the research. The graphically processed results are verbally described and explained in the thesis. In the annex of the diploma...

Transformation of the usage of new media and their role in romantic relationships
Zemanová, Eliška ; Turková, Kateřina (advisor) ; Hrbáčková, Anna (referee)
The bachelor thesis focuses on the transformation of the usage of new media in romantic relationships of Generation Z. The thesis aims to find out what is the role of social media in romantic relationships, what functions they perform, and how they interfere with them. The first part of the thesis defines new media and social networking sites and then the specifics of presentation and online communication on social media in romantic relationships are explained. The practical part is based on qualitative research. Respondents are members of Generation Z who are users of social networking sites, maintain long-term relationships, and do not share a household with their partner. The data obtained from the conducted semi-structured interviews were analysed by the method of grounded theory. The key topics were those which dealt with the social networking sites impingement to the time shared together, the insistence on privacy, the communication inside relationships, the communication with other sex and motivation for presenting a romantic relationship on social networking sites.
Young artists and social networking sites.
Smutný, Viktor ; Kolomoiets, Maksym (advisor) ; Průchová Hrůzová, Andrea (referee)
The purpose of this thesis is to explain how artists from the generation of digital natives introduced by Dingli and Dylan use Social Networking Sites (SNS). Goal of this thesis is to identify what content do artists share and what they want to achieve with it. There will also be explained what content is not shared and if this is a form of self-censorship or something more in line with certain restrictions to convey desired image. The main theoretical background comes from the concept of self-presentation, which was explained by Goffman in offline space and reworked by Hogan, who introduced the theory of exhibition in online space. This thesis explains that main goal for artists is to create a certain exhibition of their artwork. Exhibition serves as a place, where artists can display their artwork in the best way possible for the audience, which can be used by artists. The use is mostly financial, it can be direct, or someone from the audience can afford them employment, or use their popularity as a motivation for their potential employers. Creation of this exhibition comes with a cost, content focused on anything, but art is either completely absent or employed in a way that is restricted. Certain type of restrictions is used even in art focused content, so the viewer has the best possible...
New challenges of the surveillance theory
Lacinová, Miroslava ; Štogrová Jedličková, Petra (advisor) ; Malečková, Dita (referee)
The main aim of this diploma thesis, that names "New challenges of the Surveillance theory", is to describe the surveillance theory in today's social network society by using information theory. Accordingly, I will verify the theory of surveillance in two case studies. First case study verifies an impact of Facebook's profiles content on the hiring decisions. The second case sudy analyzes regular day of concrete person in context of surveillance. Both case studies demonstrate surveillance in different surveillance sites.
Who are we and who are we becoming within social network sites?
Trachtová, Veronika ; Minařík, Karel (advisor) ; Šlerka, Josef (referee)
The presented thesis aims to analyze the impact of social networking sites (SNS) in shaping our identity. Especially in the context of changes in everyday life caused by significant increase of SNS users. Unlike previous forms of online identity the identity of SNS users is anchored in the reality. Therefore our identity performance in this environment is closely tied to our real identity and real social network. Part of the thesis describe the influence of real social network on our lives, particularly the strong of weak ties is discussed. The analysis is focused on the processes and forms in which is our identity constructed and manifested within social networking sites. Detailed consideration is aimed on narrative and fragmentary characteristics of such identity. Also the consequences of total indexing of user-generated content and its persistent features are examined. This topic is followed by setting the framework of reputation management and protection of personal data. The findings of research present the forms of user identity on Facebook, the use of privacy settings and in particular the importance of the size of the networks of friends. The relationship between socialization in SNS and in the real world is described.
Ability to self-regulate social networking sites usage and its relationship to feelings of loneliness and life satisfaction
Nekola, Adam ; Horáková Hoskovcová, Simona (advisor) ; Blatný, Marek (referee)
This master thesis is in theoretical part focusing on the term of self-regulation according to Albert Bandura's theory (1991) and its domains of self-monitoring, self-judgement and self-reaction. Next we define its stand against terms such as addiction and habit, in case of low ability of one's regulation. Thanks to analysis of mainly foreign resources we oriented the work to explanation of relationship between self-regulation and loneliness and life satisfaction. These resources are chosen for their historical consistency and contemporary application, especially in domains of media and online environment. In empirical segment of thesis we are proposing our own questionnaire measuring our ability to self-regulate Facebook usage (SRQ-FB), inspired by original theory of Brown et al. (1999) and Czech translation of their questionnaire, translated and tested by Jakešová et al. (2015). Next we tested hypotheses based on assumption of relationship existence between score of our questionnaire (SRQ-FB) and score of loneliness (measured by UCLA Loneliness Scale; Russell et al., 1980) and life satisfaction score (SWLS - Satisfaction With Life Scale; Diener et al., 1984). Research sample consisted of two nation-based groups: Slovak (N = 168) and Czech (N = 21), which differed significantly in achieved score...
Algorithmization of social media and its effects on online media
Zítko, Tomáš ; Kasík, Pavel (advisor) ; Jirků, Jan (referee)
The rise of social media has changed how growing numbers of internet users get their news. Unlike traditional media, there is no universal information for everyone on social networking sites. Instead, each user receives a personalized sample of posts picked for him by a filtering algorithm. The workings of those two types of information selection are the main topic of this paper. Based on the gatekeeping theory, I offer models of editorial and algorithmic news selection and their comparison. I also compare different values of human and algorithmic gatekeepers and introduce the concept of objectivity and its limits in both cases. In the second part of this thesis, I present qualitative research into the awareness of the Facebook algorithm. Using semi-structured interviews with seven Facebook users I explore a set of specific examples of how users view Facebook as an information source, how they understand its algorithmic nature, and how satisfied are they with it. The main aim of this theses is to investigate whether the users are aware if various limitations resulting from the news-filtering technology in general.
Algorithmization of social media and its effects on online media
Zítko, Tomáš ; Kasík, Pavel (advisor) ; Jirků, Jan (referee)
The thesis Algorithmization of social media and it's effects on online news consumption examines the transition of social networking sites from chonological display of posts to automatized system of relevance assignment. This assesment is realized through algorithmic filters, which uses predefined criteria and processes to assign relevance to individual posts. Main goal of this thisis is to define compare a theoretical model of mechanized selection with traditional editorial model, together with user understanding of Facebook algoritmization. The thesis combines a theoretical part, which presents the specifics of both models, with qualitative research with aims of the conceptualization of user's understanding of the algoritmized nature of Facebook. The theoretical section also integrates algoritmic filters with the current gatekeeping theory, compares news and algorithmic values and describes the basic biases, which may occur in the two models of information selection. The second part of the thesis explores the user understanding of Facebook algorithmization. The methodology is based on qualitative research with case study design through semi-structured interviews with seven Facebook users. Interview analysis is based on predefined body of subjects: general information, understanding of algorithmization and...
