Iron hand in a velvet glove
Briestenská, Monika ; Hýlová, Adéla (referee) ; Mléčka, Jan (advisor)
Annotation What is a prison? What is its meaning or role? What does prison mean in the context of architecture? How did prisons develop and how did these changes relate to the development of society? And should prisons not exist at all? Prison is a very controversial topic, but it still affects the lives of many people. Former convicts face prejudice and social barriers and often relapse, which we should try to prevent. The work discusses the relationship of architecture to the correction and reintegration of convicts. The architecture of the prison should respond to the tendencies that have proved effective, follow them and together with them form the most effective correctional facility. It can be seen that the course of prison designing is moving towards a more open, smaller and more friendly space. Correctional programs in open prisons work with convicts on the basis of contact with the outside world, reintegration, through work, retraining and educational programs, where architecture has a significant impact, as it maximizes the chances of convicts to be rehabilitated and is inscribed into their lives. During the work on this project, a proposal for an open prison in Olomouc was created, which considers the stages of the correction of convicts and reflects the routine of everyday life outside prison. It uses movement to break the monotony of prisoners' recurring days.

Frydrychová, Monika ; Matoušková, Andrea (advisor) ; Hulmáková, Jana (referee)
(anglicky): In my thesis, I focus on the role of social workers in prisons and their effect on social rehabilitation of offenders who have committed a property crime. Imprisonment is based on the principle of restorative justice beyond the protection of society to act as an educational element directly to the offender. Individuals who leave prison, are at risk of social exclusion and their possibility of integration into society is due to stigmatization, unstable social environment, housing, employment and other circumstances endangered. The aim of this bachelor thesis is mapping the activities of social workers with adult men in prison. The social worker is a part of the overall examination of the situation of prisoners, social workers are also involved in the processing of a rehabilitation program, which has an impact on an individual's life after release and on recidivism. Social worker cooperate with families, verifies information, etc. The thesis explores the practice of social workers in our country and considering to the practice I suggest changes to improve practice.
The effect of selected types of penalties on the resocialization of convicts
Moudrý, Petr ; Bohuslav, Lukáš (referee)
The problem of resocialization of convicts and the effect of particular penalties on this process is a subject rather relatively neglected, but at the same time socially and legally fundamental. The success of the resocialization of offenders affects not only the entire criminal policy but also society as a whole. However, the view on this social dilemma is evolving over time. We do not longer examine the punishment as mere retribution, rather we expect it to protect society and have a positive effect on the convict. We also realize that most of the sentencing does not mean permanent exclusion from society. Therefore, the consequences of any sentence also affect us, the society. This phenomenon led me to analyze the three most severe sentences: imprisonment, house arrest, and community service. Gradually, I tried to investigate the outcome of the effects of these sentences on the offender's personality. During the analysis, I decided not to only benefit from the secondary data consisting of acknowledged publications, articles, studies, and concepts, but I also acquired findings from several interviews with experts within the sphere and convicts themselves. This allowed deep penetration into the topic not only from a theoretical point of view but also from a practical one. In the thesis, I critically...

New approaches in penitentiary care - model of the Open Prison Jiřice
Prokopová, Hana ; Veteška, Jaroslav (referee)
The aim of the rigorous work is to identify and characterize the innovative concept of penitentiary care applied in the treatment of convicted men in the building Open Prison in Jiřice. Emphasis is placed on the analysis of elements of innovation at the architectural level (modification of outdoor spaces "Open Prison", specific accommodation for convicts, construction of a breeding zone, cultivation zone, ornamental gardens) and at the socio-psychological level. This is reflected in the professional work and application of specifically focused activities of the treatment program. It is based on a higher degree of professional intervention in terms of the application of the method of "accompaniment" and "case management", an open approach of employees in a mutually constructive, supportive communication with convicts. In the practical part, a qualitative survey will be used, which will aim to compare selected areas of activities of the program of treatment of convicts included in the execution of imprisonment in a ward with a medium level of security and a low level of security. Case studies were chosen as the research method. The intention is to find out whether the applied foreign trends of penitentiary care in Open Prison in Jiřice correspond to the needs of convicts in terms of the overall...
Resocialization of individuals in prison by education and employment
Žížalová, Veronika ; Jaluška, Aleš (advisor) ; Novák, Petr (referee)
Resocialization of individuals based on the execution of a sentence is a very demanding process, which is not always successful. It is influenced by number of factors, such as personality, physical and mental condition, or family background. We, as social workers, must make a huge effort to strive for successful resocialization. We cannot influence the above-mentioned factors, but we should make great efforts to motivate the client, and employment with education can help us to do so. Firstly, prison was mentioned in the history, then individual terms were introduced, the Prison Service of the Czech Republic was described, the consequences of staying in prison was mentioned, the issue of resocialization of offenders from excluded localities was summarised and drug-free zones in prisons and treatment programs were described. The chapter on employment summarized this issue, current figures, specific examples and future plans of the Prison Service. The chapter on education introduced formal and non-formal education, educational opportunities for convicts, educational activities of non-governmental non-profit organizations and the educational function of clergy. In the practical part, a questionnaire survey was conducted with professional staff of the Prison Service. Respondents stated that employment...
