Attention is given to Mansfield´s personal life and relationships, from which she derived much of her inspiration as well as to the contemporary literary influences. Special consideration has deserved Mansfield´s poetry, which put the finishing touches to her literary soul. The close study is supplemented by a contrastive analysis of Mansfield´s and Chekhov´s approach to similar literary themes.

Gender, Race, and Class: Intersectional Analysis of Kate Chopin's The Awakening and Selected Short Stories
Salajová, Gabriela ; Ulmanová, Hana (advisor) ; Veselá, Pavla (referee)
The objective of this study is to ascertain whether the principles of recent intersectional analyses of Kate Chopin's seminal novel The Awakening may also be applied to Chopin's short fiction and what conclusions would be drawn from such an analysis regarding Chopin's stance on the oppression of minorities. The purpose of an intersectional analysis is to evaluate the specific type of oppression that arises on the intersection of various social categories - the categories considered here are gender, race, and class. Intersectional analysis represents one of the latest methodological approaches regarding the fiction of Kate Chopin, expanding upon the inferences formerly derived by the feminist scholars. The first chapter introduces the concept of intersectionality and describes the changes of Kate Chopin's position in the American literary canon together with the development of the methods employed by the scholarship in relation to Chopin's works through time. The second chapter is concerned with the demonstration of the main notions of five intersectional analyses of The Awakening carried out by Anna Elfenbein, Elizabeth Ammons, Joyce Dyer, Michele Birnbaum, and Dagmar Pegues. Analysis of Selected Horror Stories by Bram Stoker and Sheridan LeFanu/Analýza vybraných hororových povídek od Brama Stokera a Sheridana LeFanu
MICHAL, Vojtěch
This diploma work topic will focus on Bram Stoker and Joseph Sheridan LeFanu and their Irish horror stories, offering a brief history of the horror genre, with a special focus on stories rather than full-length novels. Although a few of the stories take place in Ireland, most are set outside of Stoker's and LeFanu's native country, so a brief background of Anglo-Irish Protestant population and especially their literary aspirations will be necessary in order to put these stories in their proper context. LeFanu and Stoker clearly associated themselves with Protestants but felt compassion towards the plight of the Catholics. A historical background to the Anglo-Irish religious conflict is therefore important to include as well. These stories were popular and written to horrify in order to satisfy the Victorian reader, so the context of the Victorian readership's historical views associated with Ireland will also be taken into consideration.
