The Polish anti-abortion movement in context of the social and political debate
Stejskalová, Michaela ; Klípa, Ondřej (advisor) ; Kubát, Michal (referee)
Issues related to women's rights, and specifically the right to abortion, belong to the range of central topics that every modern society must deal with and that signal the degree of its liberalization. For the same reason, the given issue is thematized by global and local conservative actors, who have been disseminating the concept of so-called "genderism" in the last decade, which they have used to cover issues of abortion and other social changes considered from their perspective as negative and degrading the "natural order" of Western civilization. They have decided to take an active stand against such changes and to advocate for a political and social return to traditional values. In this context, an important example is Poland, where under the rule of the conservative populist Law and Justice party between 2015 and 2023, there was a clear trend towards this value shift, in which conservative non-governmental organizations played a significant role. A typical example of such an entity is the Ordo Iuris Foundation, which has managed to establish itself as a major actor in the fight against artificial termination of pregnancy and other related issues in a short time horizon. The aim of this thesis was to map how the agenda of Ordo Iuris fits into the goals set by the global anti-gender...
The implications of China’s aging population to the nation and the world
Lashkova, Ekaterina
Population changes have been identified as among the global challenges in recent decades. While advanced economies have experienced an ageing population, underdeveloped economies have witnessed a surge in the birth rate. Arguably, this issue has been a Chinese issue since the second half of the twentieth century. Against this backdrop, this bachelor thesis tries to assess the dynamics and implications of the size and age structure of the Chinese population within the country and the World. Secondary data was obtained from reputable sources for the analysis. Using a descriptive approach, the findings show that China's ageing population brings opportunities and difficulties for the country and the rest of the world. There are chances for innovation and growth in industries like elder care and technology, although there are enormous economic and societal challenges, such as a diminishing workforce and growing healthcare expenditures. The demographic trends in China also affect the rest of the world, especially in East Asia, where ageing populations are a common worry. Ultimately, this thesis helps us better comprehend how China's ageing population affects the country and the rest of the world. It emphasizes the requirement for legislative actions to address the problems and seize the changes by demographic shifts.

T. G. Masaryk's Accentuation of the Social Question in second half of the 19th century
Kozák, Vratislav ; Havelka, Miloš (advisor) ; Nešpor, Zdeněk (referee) ; Kubátová, Helena (referee)
Tomáš Garrigue Masaryk of the 20th century is a person whose characterization and classification in the society of the time is generally agreed upon among scholars. Masaryk of the 19th century, however, is a very different case. To this day, there is still no consensus among scholars as to how exactly to classify Masaryk, which many simplify by arguing that Masaryk himself was indecisive in this regard, devoting himself to many things at once but not always fully. The central issue of the second half of the 19th century was undoubtedly the social question, which is also difficult for many to grasp, since it can be viewed in either a very specific or a very general way. With this in mind, in my thesis I not only focus on Masaryk's view of the social question of the time, but I come up with the hypothesis that it is the social question and its principle of equality that is the central motive of the person of Tomáš Garrigue Masaryk in the 19th century. I propose a functional Masarykian model for solving the social issues of the time, which is based on the aforementioned concept of equality, but in several interrelated yet sufficiently independent areas, such as religion, politics, nationalism, society and education. I subsequently verify the location of these individual aspects within my Masarykian...

Reflection of historical facts in a fantastic example of the Star Wars saga
Hadrabová Rauschgoldová, Scarlett ; Beneš, Zdeněk (advisor) ; Kudlová, Klára (referee)
The thesis deals with the issue of depicting long-past and entirely topical historical events in the Star Wars film saga. Given the current size of the Star Wars universe, this work must be limited to films known as "Episodes" (numbered I through IX) and two relatively new feature spin-offs, while everything else will be mentioned only marginally. This work maps in detail how each of the three trilogies of this saga, as well as both spin-offs, show the main problems of the time in which they arose and to which other historical facts they want or can refer. The aim of the work is thus to show that the genre widely regarded as "escape" and "completely detached from reality" reflects historical reality very strongly by its specific artistic means. Keywords Star Wars, historical reality, science fiction, speculative fiction, space opera, SF movie, story, neomyth, George Lucas, Cold War, politics
Populism as a discursive strategy: an analysis of the communication of selected populist actors in the Czech political arena
Křovák, Jan ; Charvát, Jakub (advisor) ; Just, Petr (referee)
This paper analyses the concept of populism as a discursive strategy. Therefore, it uses the view of populist discourse as discussed by Ernesto Laclau and other authors in their works. The author analyses the communication practices of four selected Czech political actors on social networks (Facebook and Twitter) in the period before the elections to the Chamber of Deputies of the Parliament of the Czech Republic in October 2021. For the analysis, the author chose representatives who are commonly labelled as populists, i.e. former Prime Minister Andrej Babiš, far-right populists, i.e. Tomio Okamura, and then two politicians representing mainstream parties - Markéta Pekarová Adamová from TOP 09 and Vít Rakušan from STAN. In the theoretical part, the author describes in depth the phenomenon of populism on the basis of expert literature, and in a comprehensive way points out the relationship between populism, social networks, media and political communication. In the practical part, the author conducted a so-called critical discursive analysis of posts of the politicians on the above-mentioned social media and then compared their dominant communication practices. The author then places the data and results of the research in context of the populist narrative described in the theoretical part of the thesis.
Sartre and His Perception by Czech Intellectuals in 1960s
Molodkina, Irina ; Matějka, Ondřej (advisor) ; Tomalová, Eliška (referee) ; Emler, David (referee)
The relationships between the power blocs during the Cold war have been researched by scholars. The question of the influence of Western ideas and representatives on the political thought in Czechoslovakia is still discussed. Although major differences were happening due to the work of institutions, their functioning was not possible without specific personalities. The aim of this thesis is to show how Jean-Paul Sartre and his arrival to Prague in 1960s did influence Czech intellectuals. The issue is approached by the review of the biography of the French philosopher, highlighting crucial events that linked him more with the Czechoslovak society, and then analyzing the way the Czech intellectuals reacted to his ideas and statements. Sartre was chosen as an intellectual who was uniting both, the East and the West, and went through a change of views, after the occurrence of several international events with the direct intervention of the USSR. Realistic views of the Czech representatives are facing relatively optimistic ideas of Sartre on the reformation of the Marxist ideology and preservation of it as the ruling one.
