HLAVÁČKOVÁ, Eliška
This bachelor thesis deals with analyzing the novella Marie from 1960, which was written by the Czech prosaic Alexandr Kliment, and comparing the book to the identically named film adaptation, which was directed by Václav Vorlíček in 1964. The main focus is put on describing both narratives - mainly in the scope of the story, and characters; giving attention to the aspect of the narrator, events, and settings as well. Through the means of the analysis of each of the categories and their subsequent comparison between both narratives, this thesis aims to discover, whether the story was modified in order to better serve the audiovisual media, and if it was, then how each media influenced the interpretation of the story itself.
The future of cinema industry after the corona crisis
Bláha, Richard ; Bednařík, Petr (advisor) ; Štoll, Martin (referee)
The role of the cinema industry has got stuck between a rock and a hard place lately. Before the corona crisis, cinemas were at its peak in the year 2019. Even if the corona crisis wouldn't happen, the decline of the industry was expected. But since the corona crisis came, streaming platforms were on the rise which hurt cinemas in a way from which they might not recover in the future. During the corona crisis, the cinema industry ceased completely. On the other hand, streaming services were in the spotlight. The corona crisis is for the most part over which means that cinemas are slowly gaining back its strength again. The goal of this thesis is to find out whether cinemas will or will not recover to its former state, whether they will be able to coexist next to the streaming services and if blockbusters will be the only movies to be shown in cinemas while the movies of a smaller budget will find its home on the streaming services. In order to find that out, I'm going to write about the role of cinemas and streaming services throughout the years, I'm going to compare the cinema box office before and after the corona crisis with the increase of subscribers of streaming services and I'm going to present the readers with opinions of both the moviegoers and industry professionals and also with...
Viktor Cabadaj: an analysis of a movie character
Novák, Karel ; Rosenfeldová, Jana (advisor) ; Šuhajová, Klára (referee)
Viktor Cabadaj is one of the most memorable, even legendary movie characters of the Czech popular culture, who has entertained whole generations of audiences. However, no one asked yet, what is the real reason, that he attracts and fascinates people? By combining the scientific method of content analysis and Richard Dyer's theory of signs of a movie character, it was revealed in our case study, what is Viktor Cabaj's movie character like. From the research of the movie "Sněženky a machři" (Snowdrops and Aces) (1982), a massive amount of both qualitative and quantitative data was obtained, and an analysis and interpretation of this data was made. The results of this research proved, that Cabadaj is the main star of the movie, a person who fascinates people, an eternal leader, the main and funny organizer of events. His true nature is discovered by examining his relationships, his position in the social structure, his actions, his speech, speech of others, his objective correlatives, appearance, gestures, meaning of his name, audience foreknowledge, and mise-en-scene. The most important information about the object of the research seems to be his dualism. He manages to enter into the minds of his social vicinity and film spectators, by combining obvious mastery in the game of power, and apparent...
The differences between perception of metonymy in photography and in movies from the perspective of reception aesthetics
Christovová, Tereza ; Fišerová, Michaela (advisor) ; Borecký, Felix (referee)
The diploma work "The differences between perception of metonymy in photography and in movies from the perspective of reception aesthetics" deals with different uses of the figure of speech - metonymy - in visual communication. The metonymy is primarily used as an ornamental device of language expression. It is also distinguishable in purely visual information that is provided in photography and certain film shots. In visual communication, metonymy is also used for embellishing of the visual content or, at least, its correction. This work is focused especially on these examples of the use of metonymy that employ the method of reception aesthetics, which was up to now applied only to literary works. The subjects of interest of the reception aesthetics are so- called places of indeterminacy and the horizon of expectation which is also the focus of this work in addition to its main focus on metonymic expression in movies and photography. The first part of this work deals with the theory of the reception aesthetics and its main exponents. The second part deals with the relationship between the recipients and the media, specifically photography and movie. The last part of this work deals with the theory of rhetorical figures, particularly metonymy and its special form - synecdoche, and it's application...

The analysis of movie characters of cyborg-woman from the perspective of the postmodern and post-theoretical approaches to the body and the identity constitution.
Bubeníčková, Kateřina ; Fišerová, Michaela (advisor) ; Kobová, Ĺubica (referee)
The thesis focuses on the analysis of the basic types of the film characters portraying artificial women: creatures who combine "femininity" (humanity) and technology, and who show female sexual characteristics or features that are stereotypically perceived as female-like (e.g. female cyborgs, female androids, female robots). The characters are analyzed and approached from the perspective of postmodern philosophy and post-theory studies; the forming of their body and identity is analyzed on the account of the narrative. The aim of the thesis is to explore whether the film representations of female cyborgs are similar to real cyborgs in the sense that they bring liberalization from the point if view of posthumanism and cyberfeminism, or whether they can only be perceived as the prime form of the Foucaltian body-as-machine, i.e. perfectly controllable precise technicist bodies which are created by the current power dispositions. The characters are divided into four categories, based on their predominant physical and "social" functions: a sexbot, a domesticated artificial woman, a destructive artificial woman and an emotional/intelligent artificial woman. The following identification and interpretation of the body, identity, relationships and the narrative structures are based on the theoretical...

Bubeníčková, Kateřina ; Vochocová, Lenka (advisor) ; Kobová, Ĺubica (referee)
This thesis will be focused on the analysis of the basic types of the female artificial movie characters - the beings connecting "femininity" (humanity) and technology. These characters holds the external female sexual signs or the characteristics stereotypically perceived as female (e.g. cyborg/cyborg woman, android woman, robotess). My issue will be examinated from the perspective of postmodern approach to the process of shaping their bodies and identities in relation to the narrative movie structure. The characters will be divided into categories based on their dominating physical and "social" function in the story. The subsequent identification and interpretation of physicality, identity and relations with other characters of the narrative will be based not only on principles of semiotic analysis, but will take into account especially the approach of postmodernism. The main theoretical basis for this paper will be the theory of poststructuralism and so called post theories - a theory of posthumanism, transhumanism and cyberfeminism.
