The effect of forced Ukrainian migration on the labour market in the Czech Republic
Stavarová, Nikola ; Pertold-Gebicka, Barbara (advisor) ; Šťastná, Lenka (referee)
This work aims to analyze the effect of forced migration on the Czech labor market. Specifically, I investigated the possible impact of the wave of refugees on the development of unemployment in localities of the Czech Republic after the outbreak of the war in Ukraine on February 24, 2022. I based the analysis on cross-sectional data at the district level and I added observation for Prague to the dataset. I've had data on unemployment and migration for the 2022-2023 period. I created a model where the dependent variable was the percentage difference in unemployment, which represented its development, and the main explanatory variable was migration. I also added other independent variables for more accurate estimates. I estimated this model using the method of ordinary least squares and I also used the two- stage least squares method due to the assumption of endogenity. As part of the second- mentioned method, I used the instrumental variable of the level of the Ukrainian population from 2018. I statistically tested the endogeneity in the model with the Hausmann test. I also estimated the models on a limited dataset, where I omitted three observations with outliers. I complemented the entire analysis of forced immigration with an analysis of economic migration, which reflected the main research, and...
Amalysis of migration flows in Sub-Saharan Africa in 2019
Petřek, Martin ; Hasman, Jiří (advisor) ; Pavelková, Lenka (referee)
Analysis of Migration Flows in Sub-Saharan Africa in 2019 Abstract The aim of this thesis will be the analysis of migration flows in sub-Saharan Africa in 2019. Based on the research, we can state what factors most influence spatial migration in sub- Saharan Africa. The basic factors are determined based on the study of the literature and are clearly divided into cultural, political, socio-economic and geographical factors. Fifty-four of the most intensive migration flows in this region are subsequently analyzed. Based on the characteristics of the source and destination countries, we will get an answer to the questions of which factors influence migration flows the most and which influence them the least. The result is a confirmation of the importance of mainly cultural and geographical factors, for example a common religion, an official language or common borders and distance. A smaller influence was shown for socio-economic and political factors, especially for the degree of freedom or the poverty index and the smallest influence for common historical ties. Keywords: destination country, migration flows, migration geography, source country
Reasons for the migration from the south to the north of Italy and its consequences
Prošková, Petra ; Mejstřík, Martin (advisor) ; Lukešová, Anna (referee)
Migration within Italy began on a larger scale already after the Second World War, and in the following decades it resulted in the imaginary division of the state into an economically strong north and a weaker south. The issue was emphasised by the specific approach of the ruling Christian Democracy party, which was the key to the development of Italy in the second half of the twentieth century. Although it strove for the restoration and modernization of the southern regions, due to the inefficiency of redistribution of finances, corruption and the influence of the mafia, the necessary restructuring and restoration did not take place. For this reason, the issue of internal migration gradually intensified and normalized. Motives for mthe migration were in most cases of an economic nature, as it was mostly about job opportunities or higher wages, which were much more available in the north. This trend naturally caused many problems in connection with society, demography, economy, etc
Impacts of the migrant crisis on Italy
Adamec, František ; Mejstřík, Martin (advisor) ; Menclová, Barbora (referee)
One of the actual resonating topics in Europe is so called migration crisis. European Union struggles to get unexpected flows of migrants under control, trying to figure out an optimum way to take over and stabilize the region and get the situation under control. The work is approached as Case study with goal to map the migrant flows into Italy from 2014 to 2017 and to identify differences, whether the Italian approach is or is not in compliance with the central EU steps. Main sense is to verify the hypothesis that EU is not capable of dealing sufficiently with migrant inflows in short-term. The theoretical part of the bachelor work provides general explanation of the European migration crisis and presents migration flows progress in the four years history. The analytical part explores key elements of Italian approach and accompanying effect of human rights violation. Possible future scenarios are drafted at the very end of this bachelor work.
Labour market restrictions and migration flows in the European Union: the case of Belarus, Moldova and Ukraine
Ducháč, Tomáš ; Strielkowski, Wadim (advisor) ; Jurajda, Štěpán (referee)
The thesis aims to estimate the future migration flows from Ukraine, Belarus, and Moldova to the EU. Based on the experience of previous EU enlargements and econometric modelling using the method of Ordinary Least Squares with Fixed Effects, multiple forecasts are created. The forecasts capture the likely development of migration flows in the event of collapse of labour market restrictions as well as the case of no labour market liberalization. The results show that migration flows are expected to be moderate, posing no threats to the stability of the labour markets of EU member states. The increase of migration due to the accession to the EU is likely to be short-term, without substantial impacts in the long-run. Ukraine has the biggest migration potential and is likely to supply the highest amount of labour migration.
Brazilian emigration in Portugal after its adherence to the European Community
Stanzelová, Magdalena ; Perottino, Michel (advisor) ; Tomalová, Eliška (referee)
Bachelor thesis Brazilian emigration in Portugal after its adherence to the European Community deals with the migration flow coming from Brazil to Portugal after 1986. It describes its evolution in time, concentrating on the comparison of its specific waves. The work gives an overview of the factors that cause that the Brazilians often choose Portugal as their target country, as well as treaties that give this relationship an international framework. The thesis analyses the causes, development and consequences of this migration flow. The second part of the work is dedicated to the comparison of the first wave of immigration that started in the late 1980s, and the second one, that took place between 1998 and 2003. The work aims to prove that both waves differ in motives of emigration, as well as in qualification and education level of the emigrants and their incorporation on the Portuguese labour market.

CHARAKTER MIGRACE OBYVATEL V JIŽNÍCH ČECHÁCH
HŘIVNÁČ, Radek
The Diploma Thesis focuses on the general characteristics of the internal and external migration in the area of South Bohemia. One of the most important part of the thesis is the division and the definition of the migration regions of South Bohemia and their comparison with the migration regions according to J. Čekal and administration units SO ORP. The thesis also shows the geographical characteristics of South Bohemia and its historical development of the population and migration. The main part of the Diploma thesis is the analysis of the migration in the region with the help of migration indicators. South Bohemia is a profit region in 1991-2015, the arrival of the new inhabitants is seen mainly in the area of České Budějovice and the regions around bigger county cities. The thesis is also focused on the counterurbanisation flows in the chosen migration area Český Krumlov where the bigger migration activity from the bigger cities did not prove itself. The results are presented with the help of cartographical, graphical and table charts that enable better interpretation of the research.
