Water in an Urbanized Environment Svratka Raceway

The dissertation describes the historic development of watercourses in Brno territory focusing on the artificial canal Svratka raceway and the present state is described based on the available map data, preserved picture materials and photographic documentation of the present state. The work offers memories of several people from Brno who remember the artificial watercourse, these complete the picture of the Svratka raceway at the time of its extinction. The dissertation documents the present state of areas where the raceway used to run and on which it bordered. What attitude the twin towns of Brno - Leipzig and Graz - take, is outlined in the chapter Examples of Raceway and Natural Stream Reconstruction in Here and Abroad. The presented work should serve as a comprehensive source material for further study of Svratka raceway and further possible studies of arrangement of the areas where the raceway used to run and its - at least - partial reconstruction.
František Fajtl after year 1945

66 The aim of this Bachelor Thesis is to portray the life of the war hero, František Fajtl after the year 1945. In this part of his life the author focuses on the arrest, imprisonment and the persecution by the Communist regime in general. The first chapter shows a brief biography ended at the end of the World War II. Following block of chapters deals with more detailed description of František Fajtl's life in the era of the totalitarian regime. The closing chapters investigate both the lecturing and publishing activities of the fighter pilot and his perception of the Velvet Revolution and the following events. Many valuable primary sources have been used in this Bachelor Thesis. These sources should support the authenticity of the work. The appendix is very rich in this way. Anthology of Soviet Prison and Labour Camp Literature in Czech Renderings

The thesis focuses on contrastive analysis of Soviet prison and labour camp literature published in anthology Jen jeden osud. The Czech version of this compilation was translated in 2009. The main task is to explore the adequacy of employed methods and approaches in translation. The thesis consists of two parts. The first part is focused on detailed analysis of original anthology and its translation to Czech. It explores types of memoirs containing the Russian anthology Доднесь тяготеет (Dodnes tyagoteyet (2004)), its variability of literary genres and its time radius. Then it analyses, how these criteria are reflected in the Czech version of anthology. The second part is focused on contrastive analysis of two selected memoirs from Yekaterina Olitskaya На Колыме (Na Kolyme) and Yuriy Fidelgolts Беспредел (Bespredel). Analysis focuses mainly on different category of prisoners, i.e. division on political and criminal prisoners and different classes of criminal prisoners. The important part was dedicated to the analysis of the author's style and its reflection into the target language.
Memoirs, historical-geographic source and the image of region (for example, the memoirs of FJ Vavák turn of the 18th and 19th centuries)

This thesis is a contribution to the still not fully explored historical-geographical aspect of regional chronicles - Memories of F. J. Vavák, neighbour and mayor of Milčice. The main goal of the thesis was analysis of the image of the region which Vavák presented in his memoirs. As a reference source was used First Military Mapping - mapping and text supplement - as a historically appropriate source. The content of the first two chapters is Vavák's bibliography and introduction of the most important domestic and international contemporary events and affairs for easier understanding of the conditions and circumstances of the genesis of both main sources. Main chapter then presents the image of the region pictured both in Vavák's Memoirs and the First Military Mapping. As the memoirs is the very extensive source, it was necessary to choose "the overarching aspects," whereby is observed the image of the region. Based on the significant features of the memoirs was chosen following terms historical-geographical, social-topographical, economic, cultural, climatological and historical. Individual aspects were sequentially analyzed and documented by examples from Memories or the text part of the First Military Mapping. Karel Kojecký: Memoirs - editorial treatment, linguistic and stylistic analysis

The aim of this thesis is editorial treatment of Memoirs, which was written by Karel Kojecký in the 1950s-1970s. Part of the thesis will be in addition to editorial note also linguistic and stylistic analysis of the text. Author of Memoirs comes from Kroměřížsko, the analysis will therefore also include the characteristics of the dialect, which he uses in the book.
Memoirs of the citizens of Pilsen in the late 19th and the first half of the 20th century

The aim of the dissertation is to present a set of memoirs preserved in Pilsen from the late 19th and the first half of the 20th century. Furthermore, it intends to incorporate these writings into a broader context within the research of personal sources. Therefore, the first chapter deals with the history of these sources as subjects of research interest and the possibilities of their use. In terms of methodology, the thesis wants to carry out a comprehensive analysis of a representative sample of these sources. At the same time, it assesses the internal and external features of the texts, but also addresses the life stories of individual authors and tries to reveal their possible motivations for the creation of these writings. Additionally, the dissertation seeks to compare the selected memoirs, especially in terms of their nature and content. It focuses on different methods of self-presentation of writers through these works and on the consolidation of their identities through recorded narratives. But it also deals with the ways of depicting the city of Pilsen and the changes in everyday life in its streets as well as with the reflection of major political events in the compared writings. Overall, the submitted thesis tries to contribute to a deeper understanding of the problematic and diverse era of modern history and to reveal the thought-world and behaviour of people at that time.
Reflection on British invasion in Iraq 2003

The thesis deals with the British intervention in Iraq 2003 and its representation in the memoirs of four prominent representatives of Great Britain. These include Prime Minister Tony Blair, Foreign Secretary Jack Straw, Secretary of State for International Development Clare Short, and Robin Cook, Leader of the House of Commons. The text is an analysis of the memoirs of the above- mentioned persons and a description of the events that immediately led to military intervention in Iraq, as well as capturing the time of the next few weeks. The aim of the thesis is to find out how the actors cope with the events of 2002 and 2003, how their approach differs. The first part of the text is a theoretical-methodological definition, there are the specifics of memoir literature and approaches to it. The second part is a brief factual summary of those events. The third part is a memory analysis that helps readers to answer the research question.
Count Maurice de Benyovszky and the central European literary reflections of his life and work

The aim of this bachelor thesis is to focus on the traveler, adventurer and Madagascar king Count Maurice de Benyovszky, his life and his work, and to discuss his personality and his significance within the Central European region. We will attempt to name the differences between his portrayal in the literary works of the mentioned area, find the reasons for them and confront them with the historical reality. In addition to that, we will pay attention to various editions of his memoirs and the way of translating them to Slovak and Hungarian language as well. (N)ostalgy: Literary depiction of childhood and youth in socialism in literary fiction after 1989

The aim of this thesis is to analyse the representation of the normalisation era as drawn in contemporary Czech literature after 1989. The thesis is based on reminiscent fiction about childhood and youth in the socialist era, dealing with so-called small history - family memories, depiction of childhood, youth and teenage years. This thesis deals with the typical codes for recalling the socialist era, identifies what is recalled and how, and examines what influences remembering of childhood and youth in the era.
