Oligarchization without an oligarch: analysis of TV Nova news broadcasting after a change of owner

This thesis, titled Oligarchization without an oligarch: analysis of TV Nova news broadcasting after a change of owner, focuses on a currently highly debated issue of oligarchic media ownership. The oligarchic media ownership model is a trend in current media ownership. Research on media ownership answers key questions about who owns these means of communication and how power is potentially exercised through their ownership. In 2020, businessman and billionaire Petr Kellner ranks among other media magnates through his investment group PPF. With the acquisition of the media company CME, he takes control of all activities of the most watched commercial television in the Czech Republic, TV Nova. Through this investment, Kellner's PPF achieves enormous influence. Based on quantitative content analysis, this thesis aims to determine whether the news coverage of this private television station tends to favour topics that support the business or other economic interests of the PPF Group. The research sample of the thesis consists mainly of news reports broadcast on Nova TV. The key value for the research is the analysed amount of time devoted to the PPF Group in comparison to their competitors.

The master's thesis Ownership of media houses in the Czech Republic describes the current media landscape in the Czech Republic within the framework of major publishing houses with a significant impact and a wide portfolio of titles and further evaluates the coverage of the topic Gaining the trust of the government with the support of the KSČM using the method of analysis. The aim of the thesis was to describe the transformation of the ownership structure of media houses, which is currently almost entirely in Czech (or Czechoslovak) hands. Through analysis, it describes the possible motivation of contemporary media moguls.
Media portrayal of Andrej Babis in Mladá fronta Dnes, Právo and Lidové noviny

This diploma thesis "Media image of Andreje Babiš in the following newspapers: Mladá fronta DNES, Právo Hospodářské noviny and Lidové noviny in the connotation with the affair of a stork's nest" focuses on issue of the media image of an important public figure, politician and head representative of the most popular party in our republic in the time periods chosen for the purpose of this diploma thesis (May 2016, August 2017 and March 2018). It is a well known fact, that Andrej Babiš purchased, through his company Agrofert certain media, for example Mladá fronta DNES and Lidové noviny, in the year 2013. This diploma thesis is an attempt to portray if a fact of this acquisition had any influence on media image of Andrej Babiš in those newspapers, meaning Mladá fronta DNES and Lidové noviny. This media image is going to be compared with the media image of Andrej Babiš in the same time periods in the newspapers Právo and Hospodářské noviny. Newspapers that are exempt of any and all influence of Andrej Babiš. This diploma thesis presents concept, that desribes how media construct reality, which enables the very existence of media image. Analysis of the political instrumentalization of the periodic press Mladá fronta DNES in the period before elections to the Chamber of Deputies of the Parliament of the Czech Republic in 2013

The diploma thesis Analysis of the political instrumentalization of the periodic press Mladá fronta DNES in the period before elections to the Chamber of Deputies of the Parliament of the Czech Republic in 2013 examines, if leader of the political party ANO Andrej Babiš used his position of the owner of the media group MAFRA to influence media content in the periodic press Mlada fronta DNES during the period before elections to the Chamber of Deputies of the Parliament of the Czech Republic in 2013. Theoretical framework briefly describes the basic concepts of political communication and geopolitical division of the models of political communication including the Czech media scene. Focus is primarily on the development and possible ways of instrumentalization of printed media operating in the Czech media market after 1989. Results of quantitative research showed that four other political parties gained more media attention then political party ANO which ended up second in the election. The title pages of the Mlada fronta DNES therefore was not used to increase promotion of Andrej Babis and his political party.
