School as a Community Center - the Reality and Possibilities of Development of Community Education

This thesis deals with the community schools in the Czech Republic and the possibilities of their development. Firstly, it defines basic concepts like community education in an international context and the notion of community schools itself. Secondly, it discusses certain theoretical assumptions and presuppositions as well as current challenges of development of the community schools. The research is based on a multiple case study and it describes the current situation of selected community schools. The current situation of the schools is compared to their situation and conditions six years ago. Basing on the diachronic comparison using the academic document "Analysis of environment in the Czech Republic and the possibility of the development of community schools" of 2008, the research revealed that community concepts in schools are almost unchanged. Finally, the work challenges possible causes of this stagnation of development. Where is the community? Case study of neighborhoods in Žiar nad Hronom

Community and its ties to locality have been bothering sociologists and researchers since society has abandoned its traditional organization. Many of them considered positive and negative aspects of industrial and later modern society's influence on community sense and human relationships. This thesis will walk the reader through the influential writings on the topic of community, meaning of space and human relationships. Starting with the appreciation of traditional community, through worries about its disappearance, diminishing importance of local ties and ending with complete anonymity and individualization. The empirical part of this thesis brings up results of the research conducted in neighborhoods of Žiar nad Hronom, town in central Slovakia. Findings from the interviews were confronted with ideas of New Urbanism, basically confirming role of architecture design in neighbors' relationships. Intensity, frequency and quality of interaction among neighbors are thus influenced by factors of spatial design, length of residence and busyness of residents. Nature of the relationships among neighbors is far from ideal (as in traditional community) but people look for communities in wider sense, creating networks with people from other social circles than those bounded to a place.

Everyday life in the period of socialism in the Podblanicko region

The topic of the thesis deals with everyday life in Podblanicko Region during the socialist era. This is a local research that tries to show the memories of rural people on the period of normalization, defined by the 70s and 80s of the 20th century, in terms of food, clothing and housing. The research deals with the strategies, tactics and improvisations of the inhabitants of this region in the period of socialism, among other things focused on the lack of required goods in shops, poor supply, searching for not very high-quality construction materials and fashionable clothes. Apart from individual expressions, it deals with community style that inherently belongs to the rural population. The era of socialism is strongly ingrained in the mind of the people who lived at that time. It is clear from many sources that before the year 1989 people in the countryside did not live just meaningless lives, remarked and emptied by a totalitarian regime. In many cases, they tried to ignore the regime or they just were not interested in it. In their everyday life they created values, which were more important to them. Strategic Corporate Social Responsibility

This master thesis is dedicated to strategic corporate social responsibility (CSR) and to the concept of creating shared value (CSV). It analyses the difference between CSV and common business philanthropy which is based on allocation of some part of their profit. It shows the connection between business and civic society. Currently the companies realise that their success is related to the well-being of the society in which they work. Therefore - when adopting the concept of CSV companies focus on the field in which they are active in their core business. The thesis concentrates on partnering business companies with civic society organisations. This is based on the belief that social and economic aims coincide. This partnership is a challenge to find a solution to common social issues. It should gain profit to both sides. The theory of this thesis is complemented by a research and analysis of interviews with respondents from both business and civic companies.

The role of school and local community in prevention of delinquent behaviour of children and youth

My thesis is dealing with problematics of delinquent behaviour of children and juveniles, especially its prevention. Theoretical part is trying to explain general terms related with area of delinquency and also giving some general theories of delinquency. Furthermore it is specifying the period of school-age and adolescence and it is trying to point at some basic development specifics, signs and motivation of children and juvenile delinquency. In the next chapter it is dealing with the most common causes of delinquent behaviour of children and juveniles. Last but not least it is pointing at importancy of preventive effect of school environment and local community. Practical part finds, with help of different methods, efficiency of preventive action in particural schools and local community. Transformation of a Local Community in Time: Influence of Facebook on Relationships

The main aim of this thesis is to describe and analyze the nature of relationships of the originally local community and see what impact online social networks have on these relationships. The local community in this study is represented by one class of selected pupils from the primary school Na Smetance in Prague 2. For the main analysis were used mainly qualitative research methods: survey questionnaires and structured interviews with members of the screened community. The results showed that the transformation can be seen not only in the fragmentation of the local community into smaller groups of individuals with strong ties, but also in the influence of online social network Facebook, where relationships among members of the originally local community are maintenained. The analysis of strength relations between former classmates suggests that social network created by Facebook is essentially generated by weak ties, which are however indispensable for the creation of social capital. Process of Modernization of Society and its Consequences at the Regional Level

The objective of this bachelor thesis is to find social and economic issues of the process of modernization in the selected region in the course of the communistic era, after the Velvet revolution up to now. The thesis contains a map of voting preferences, based on the data from the Czech Statistical Office, and the results of a questionnaire with the mayors' opinions about the social and economic development in Sobeslav region. The bachelor thesis ranks technology progress in rural localities and presents an analysis of the sustainable development, mainly in the field of agriculture. The first one, the theoretical part, describes conceptions of modernization, coun-tryside, countryside community and landscape. The second one, the analytic part, de-fines indicators of modernization and evaluates the open questionnaires and interviews with local mayors. The work presents SW analysis focusing on modernization in the region.

Cultural Center Eden

Bachelor's thesis deals with the topic of cultural center percieved as an element of basic civic amenities. This is the angle of view that has not been applied a lot in the Czech Republic so far. The theoretical part focuses mainly on defining what cultural center is, which role it plays in contemporary society and which possibilities it has in designing organizational structure, legal form, financing and project management. Next step is to do a search of cultural centers and to establish general guidlines for designing new cultural centers afterwards. Main task in practical part of the thesis is to map the situation arend the abandoned and neglected cultural center in Eden (Vršovice-Prague) and to design a new institution of cultural center taking into account all previously acquired knowledge and information.
