SPATIAL CULTIVATION AND RESTORATION OF THE BUILDING CULTURE OF THE MINING SETTLEMENT IN BANSKÁ STIAVNICA (SK)
Vitkovič, Michal ; Šuška, Milan (referee) ; Havliš, Karel (advisor)
The diploma thesis deals with the city, which in the last decades has become a phenomenon that have expanded beyond the Slovak context. The former "silver well" of Hungary and at one time the largest mining centre of the Habsburg monarchy is now a UNESCO-labeled success story among the world's cities with a history of mineral extraction, and provides a haven for tourists as well as for a creative community of people coming from all over Slovakia. The volcanic territory of the Štiavnické Hills is intertwined with an urban structure set in a landscape that has been transformed by centuries of mining activity into a unique anthropomorphic entity. Its perception is largely "iconized" in the form of several "representatives" of the value of Banská Štiavnica - the Calvary, the Old and New Castle, the Square, Klopačka, Sitno Hill... But what lies beyond the interest in tourist destinations? If Banská Štiavnica's values could be simplified into the categories of urban and landscape, the interest of this thesis lies precisely between them - in the specific area of the miner's settlement of the slopes above the compact urban centre of the town. While the centre itself is firmly embedded in the perception of a 'significant historic city', the mining settlement of the slopes represents much more fragile values - as reflected in the monumental protection of the area, which was added to the core zone of the historical town reserve with a significant delay compared to the central part. The characteristic parcelization, the setting of buildings and roads in the steep terrain, the traditional farming reflecting the natural conditions and especially the buildings of local folk architecture reflecting the stylistic elements of the urban part of the town are a kind of shadow of the phenomenon of Banská Štiavnica. The lack of continuity in settlement, the intensification of cottage development and inappropriate landscaping, which erases years of cultural layering in the landscape, pose major challenges to the preservation of the value of Banská Štiavnica as a complex whole. The work therefore builds primarily on a strong analytical foundation that places the values and problems of this specific area in a broader context. The understanding of the fragile qualities of this territory is translated by the thesis into small interventions, which, however, are not a final, concrete proposal, but rather a materialization of principles of a conceptual, yet tangible approach. More than a project, therefore, the work should be an inspiration - whether for local actors, landowners, people in our professions or potential new permanent residents - to focus their attention also on the peripheral and overlooked places whose value is often hidden in the "everyday" and the ordinary.
So the kids have place to be ashamed of us
Peřina, Jan ; Maršíková, Hana (referee) ; Mléčka, Jan (advisor)
The work aims to design an environmentally responsible school in a specific situation according to the innovative education principles focused on forest schools. The work reacts to the absence of forest schools in the Kroměříž region and offers an alternative to regular education systems and the regular appearance of the schools. The proposal is applied in Kroměříž. I design interventions in fore locations with different spatial characteristics. The interventions evolve existing features and characteristics of the location or make the accessible. Those interventions should be used not only for education but also for the locals.

In my bachelor's thesis I deal with the landscape and the influence of man on its changes. I focus on the landscape we visit for solitude and peace. I realize that by careful perception, a person's legacy can be found almost everywhere. In my work, I emphasizes places where nothing human happens at first glance, but on closer inspection, escape from society is almost impossible. In purely natural scenery, I find evidence of human presence in various technical buildings, telephone wires, city noise and means of transport, or in tree rowing, or sharp saw cuts and regular traces of agricultural machinery.
Brno Connectivity / Brno Democratic City
Jirků, Anežka ; Kala, Josef (referee) ; Nový, Vítězslav (advisor)
City. The main centre of all human activity, whose architecture reflects the art and maturity of its inhabitants and the values of the society in which it was founded. There are countless approaches and theories on how a proper city should look and function. Jan Gehl wrote: "A good city is in many ways like a good party: the guests stay because they are having fun." But is it as simple as that? And what keeps us from enjoying our city and having fun in its streets? In my master thesis I decided to look at the subject of urban space from a slightly different angle than usual, and through the potential of small interventions to try to encourage life between buildings.
Socio-economic implications of stalled affordable housing interventions on host communities: a case study of Asokore Mampong in Ghana
Asante, Daniel Kofi
The study intended to determine how host communities are affected socioeconomically by affordable housing interventions that have stalled in Asokore Mampong. A descriptive survey design was, and Data was analyzed using SPSS version 20. Data were collected through a semi-structured questionnaire and administered to the respondents. Simple random sampling methodology and purposive sampling under the probability sampling method were employed for the study. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics. The findings show that residents of Asokore Mampong have been impacted due to the stalled housing interventions in the community. Also, criminals used the stalled housing as their residency posing threats to the indigenes of the community. The police made mention of some area in the community known as a hideout for criminals and gave out some precautious measures to the community residents. Therefore, the study recommends that, it is essential for Ghana's socioeconomic development that all its citizens have access to decent, affordable housing. This is a fundamental human right guaranteed by the Social Contract. Establishing a thorough, practical, and enforceable national housing policy is essential.
