Compact City - or what new is able to yet be done in Brno among railway stations
Stuchlík, Aleš ; Konvička, Miloslav (referee) ; Havliš, Karel (advisor)
Project deals with the Brno main railway station and a large area behind this station, including the broader context of a railway junction in Brno and the suburban area. Station is located in the user-friendly and operationally advantageous location in the city center. „Zanádraží“, from the city center point of view, remains behind the station, but it isn`t the city inside periphery anymore. Proximity to city center, train and bus station and the river „Svratka“ give uniquely positioned for the generation of attractive neighborhoods. Author rejects functionalist arrangement of cities and vertical segregation of communications. The new city district is formed by use traditional urban repertoire: streets, squares and waterfronts defined by closed block development. The emphasis is on functional public transportation system, favorable conditions for pedestrian movement and the sustainability of private transport, which is providing a facility for ensuring the service areas, but not for undirected growth threatening urban environment.
Public transport connection of the new Brno Railway station
Bartoň, Daniel ; Pavlíček, Jan (referee) ; Holcner, Petr (advisor)

It focuses in particular on the public transport in Brno affected by the transfer of the railway station and on regional passenger railway transport in the vicinity of Brno. It describes, evaluates and assesses various variants of the transfer of the new railway station in terms of time savings for passengers traveling through the Main Railway Station and their source or destination of travel is in Brno or in the vicinity of Brno. The most suitable appears variant B - the transfer of the station under Petrov.
Brno New Train Station and its Public Spaces
Nytrová, Bohdana ; Hybská, Bohumila (referee) ; Sedláček, Michal (advisor)
For almost one hundred years, Brno has been deciding where the place of a new main train station should be. The works have almost started several times, but the various affairs have always postponed it. Two years ago, it was finally decided that „the River option“ would be constructed. So far, only the technological template has been written – e. g. railway bridge or platforms outline. The thesis focuses on the architectural design of the main building, the roof construction above the railways and spaces below the station bridge. In the design, the outlying urban structures are also dealt with. These include the locations of a bus station, taxi services and bike stands. Moreover, the design also mentions the station’s connection to the city networks. The main motive of the design is to put the main train station building into the centre of the city’s attractions – to make it visible. A boulevard’s view is oriented to the St. Peter’s cathedral – a famous Brno’s building. Just as the mentioned cathedral, the station is important for the city and deserves to be seen. A strong arched construction on four pillars serves as a roof over the railways and places where most visitors are expected to be most of the time. The arch also connects the public transport lines and the bus station. Part of a roof shaped like waves around the main hall connects the structure with the riverside nearby.
Compact Town - or what new is able to yet be done in Brno among railway stations
Březovská, Markéta ; Gebrian, Adam (referee) ; Havliš, Karel (advisor)
Rather than a new masterplan I developed a strategy how to deal with a complicated area between the two Brno train stations. The land on the south of the city center has not been used for almost 100 years. There is a plan today, caused by removal of the main station to the south and introduction of the new city-train, to build up the area. The strategy I propose is based on the critical analysis of the current state of the area, of the plans that the city of Brno has, on the principles of the “compact city”, on my research on the potential users of the site and a study of life of 7 (imaginary) different potential user groups in the future, within the specific time horizon.
Transport service at Central Bus Station Brno
Bartoň, Daniel ; Všetečka, Martin (referee) ; Holcner, Petr (advisor)
The bachelor thesis deals with transport service at Central Bus Station in Brno and its connection to public transport hub in front of the Brno Main Railway Station. In the first chapter, the work deals with counting of passengers and a survey by questionnaire. The next section describes the current status and the possibilities of access on foot, by public transport or by car to the bus station. Followed by a proposed conventional and unconventional solutions to the problems and their comparison. As the best came out conventional solutions - implementation of the new bus line, respectively, the move of bus stops near the bus station.
- Brno New Train Station and its Public Spaces
Valach, Lukáš ; Hybská, Bohumila (referee) ; Sedláček, Michal (advisor)
The topic of the diploma thesis is the design of a new Brno main railway station in the position "The River" (Ac), which was selected from several variants of the reconstruction of the Brno railway junction (ŽUB). The aim of this work is to create an architectural and urban concept, the function of which will be an important contribution to the development of the city of Brno, improving the traffic situation and comfort of the general public or residents of the new adjacent district Trnitá. The solved area is located in the cadastral area of Komárov, Štýřice and Trnitá. The height dominant is represented here by the Europoint building (115 meters). It is located in the axis of the new boulevard, at the other end of which we can see the picturesque Petrov. The main entrance glass hall is adjacent to Europoint. Public facilities are located in the front station area. North of Europoint, it is a smaller building with the function of start-up workshops and offices. Towards the river there are the pre-station square and the public transport terminal. The last building is a hotel with leisure activities. The end of the pre-station area by the river is designed with a park arrangement. It is important to connect to the bike path leading along the river. The river is widened at this point and a smaller accessible island is inserted into it. The new railway body is determined by the binding base of SŽDC, which contains the track on the embankment and on the bridge structure at the level of 7,1 meters above the level of the surrounding terrain. The solved part is bounded by two embankments, which will probably be created as massive reinforced concrete walls. The bridge structure lying between these embankments has dimensions of approximately 154x368 meters, which corresponds to the area of 8 football fields. The bridge deck will be drawn on columns of the given raster. The basic principle in the design of the new main station is simplicity, readability and functionality.

Architectural progression of the building of the main railway station in Prague
Semrádová, Michaela ; Czumalo, Vladimír (advisor) ; Šmied, Miroslav (referee)
In bachelor thesis I examine a architectural progression of the building of the main railway station in Prague. I will focus on the main evolutional phase of the building when the start of the construction of the future station dates back to 1869 and was in the Neo-Renaissance style. Another evolutional milestone is the beginning of the 20th century when it began to be built in an Art Nouveau building designed by Josef Fanta. In the 70s, there was extensive reconstruction by architect Josef Dandy and early 21st century has begun reconstruction led by Patrick Kotas.
