Generation differences in work attitudes and diversity management

This thesis focuses on generation difference between work attitude and diversity management. The aim of this work is to describe generation differences between work attitudes and subsequently implement diversity management as a tool to improve labour productivity in working groups of diverse ages. Demographic changes lead to extension of the average life expectancy and the resulting ageing population. An ageing population has an impact on economics, as well as the social sphere. People will go into retirement later than they used to and multiple generations will encounter each other at one workplace. Diversity management should meet some of generation individual requirements to encourage their work satisfaction that could lead to higher work efficiency. Companies focused on the diversity of their work force will profit from higher competitiveness and achieve the label of socially responsible company. Data from the "Aktér 2008" research were analysed using secondary analysis. This analysis found 5 areas in which generation differences appeared. These differences were: wage value, career growth, security of work, variety of work and personal and work life balance. Presented bachelor thesis covers the topic of job satisfaction in the context of the age of worker. It is focused on theoretical base of job satisfaction, its character or influencing factors. It explores the job satisfaction-job behavior relations and basic methods of research in the field of job satisfaction. Attention is also paid to researches already performed and they are compared. The thesis also includes original empirical survey performed in the international bank company, which is focused on job values in the field of co-workers relations, being the important job satisfaction factor.

The thesis How mothers and daughters perceive and use fashion themes in lifestyle magazines for women is aimed at generational differences when it comes to perception of media content. Specifically, it examines differences in perception of fashion phenomenon presented in lifestyle magazines for women (e.g.: ELLE and Cosmopolitan) by mothers and their daughters. Today, not only individuals, but also family relations are influenced by new media, new technologies, and new forms of media content, therefore I focused on differences in consumption of those lifestyle magazine between two generations of women within a family. The thesis first introduces some theories on social construction of reality; how fashion is presented in magazines; how women as readers perceive fashion and how this influences readers' identities as a result of magazines' consumption, and how advertising is perceived by readers. Theoretical knowledge is then researched. Qualitative research was conducted on ten pairs of respondents (mother - daughter) in the form of interviews. The results show that lifestyle magazines do not serve as a main source of information about fashion anymore.
