Nord Stream 2: In accordance with the EU's Energy security strategy?

The diploma thesis is focused on the energy security of the European union, specifically on the import of natural gas. The dependence on the import of natural gas is one of the key questions for the energy security of the EU. One of the tools for dealing with this issue is diversification of the suppliers a searching for a new sources of energy to sustain the economical development of the EU. One of the goals of the EU' Energy security strategy is to lower its dependence on gas imports from Russia. In the lights of recent events, when the gas supply was disrupted a few times, because of the events on Ukraine, Russian aggression in the eastern part of Ukraine and annexation of the Crimea, EU is looking for a better alternative. The research is trying to find out what is the role of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline, which will bypass Ukraine and go straight from Russia to Germany and will have impact on other Central and Eastern European countries. The question is whether the project is viable vis-a-vis energy security framework metrics and whether there are better alternatives such as the Southern Gas Corridor or the possibility to import liquified natural gas LNG from elsewhere. Energy policy of EU - relations with Russia

European union does not dispose of balanced energy reserves to cover the ever-increasing energy consumption in Europe and so is highly dependent on energy imports from abroad. The most important energy supplier to the EU is Russia, which mainly imports oil and natural gas, but the EUs high dependence on Russia is threatening the EUs energy security. On the contrary, Russia is heavily dependent on European energy markets. Bachelor thesis aims to analyze development of the energy policy situation and its dependence on EU-Russia relations, to measure interdependence of EU-Russia and to outline the possibilities of diversification of business relations and distribution channels between these actors and related impacts on the economy. The EU should concentrate on uniting the individual states in the matter of energy relations with Russia, that would ensure a better negotiation position.

Actorness of the European Union in the field of global energy policy: the case of Nabucco pipeline project

The aim of the master thesis is to evaluate the European Union's position in the field of global energy policy. The thesis adopts a concept of actorness which is then applied to the case of the Nabucco pipeline project. The concept aspires to respond to an unclear status of the EU as an entity of its own kind in an international system of states. The study is based on a Brattberg's and Rhinard's approach to actorness which specifies a number of variables. Their analytical framework allows us to assess the extent of EU actorness - the ability to act as an international actor. The particular variable that this thesis focuses on is vertical consistency. Vertical consistency in the academic sphere is regarded as a significant factor of actorness. It is also often considered as an insufficient element of an integrated approach of the EU - internal unity is inevitable for more effective joint policy. Energy policy of several Member States is examined in contrast with the EU energy policy as a whole. Own analytical framework is established due to the lack of information on vertical consistency in the literature. Nord Stream Project in the context of European energy security

Bachelor thesis "Nord Stream Project in the context od European energy security is concerned with bulding a new pipeline to lin Russia directly to Western European Countries without a participation of transit countries on transportation of natural gas. First, Thesis explanes European energy policy which has recently responding to the growing consumption of natural gas in Europe and the dependece on Russia in gas supply. Then describes the possibilities for further diversification and expansion of existing resources and building new transport routes. The second main theme which is linked to the development European energy security is the Nord Stream pipeline. The paper provides basic informations about the project, about its beginning, its planned construction and about subjects which participate in it. Nord Stream may be regarded as a controversial project and the article explanes reasons. Finally it describes attitude of several European countries which are concerned in building the Nord Stream pipeline. EU energy policy towards a region of the Caspian Sea

The main factor of prosperity of energy resources is to find reliable access. The always increasing demand for energy resources and population increase make big uncertainty in energy and economic security. Europe Union does not have much of their own energy resources and therefore is forced to import these. At the moment Russia is the main key partner in providing oil and gas, with this dependency on Russia we can see security risks leading to energy instability. Europe Union is actively trying to eliminate this dependency and trying to diverse and find new suppliers and new transit routes. The region around Caspian Sea might be alternative for securing supplies of oil and gas. The fundamental part of this bachelor thesis is to analyse economic utility and energy potential in Caspian Sea region and also is going to evaluate the activity of EU towards this region with purpose to establish new transit routes and by doing this to eliminate EU dependency on Russia and its associated risks.

The trends in the EU energy policy in case of oil and natural gas with respect to the economical and geopolitical situation in Ukraine

The work is written and solved in the context of ongoing crisis in Ukraine, which is a major transit country for Russian gas and oil to the EU. The subject of this diploma thesis is to analyze three possible scenarios of EU energy policy in the field of oil and gas with respect to the situation in Ukraine. The aim of this work is to answer the question what direction should the energy policy of EU have in case of oil and gas and to what extent it is influenced by the Ukrainian crisis, based on an analysis of the facts and the current energy situation of the EU. The work is divided into two parts, where the first is characterization of the major players -- the European Union, Russia and Ukraine. In the second part, three possible scenarios for the EU energy policy are analyzed. The proposed possible solutions for energy situation based on the analysis of the facts assessed in the thesis, is the change of the EU attitude towards the shale and unconventional petroleum and natural gas.

Identifikace faktorů působících na tržby energetického průmyslu v zemích EU

This thesis deals with the compilation of an econometric model for the response variable Sales in the energy industry. For the compilation of an econometric model Gretl program is used, data for analysis were taken on the Internet server Eurostat.eu. Cross-sectional data for the year 2010 were used. Resulting multiple regression model is interpreted and evaluated. Part of the thesis also contains a review of literature, which deals with the development of a common energy policy in the EU countries, the current situation in this area and future development plans. Also there are listed sources of energy that are located on the territory of the EU and the issue of energy dependence on other non-member countries is discussed.

This bachelor thesis deals with energy policy of the EU and its realations with Russian Federation. The main goal of this bachelor thesis is to determine if EU is capable of integrated approach in formation of its energy policy. The first chapter describes current energy policy of the EU and focuses on implementation of its external energy policy and on its targets in this policy. The second chapter describes energy dependency on Russian Federation in the regional and national point of view. It also focuses on legal framework and problems between EU and Russia. The second chapter outlines possible ways of reduction of energy dependency on Russian Federation. The last chapter describes current projects, that schould diversify supplying countries and transportation routes.

Nuclear energy and EU energy security

This diploma thesis is dedicated to the future development of nuclear energy in the EU area and its incorporation into the current EU energy policy. The work also focuses on a detailed examination of EU energy policy in terms of energy security of the Member States and throughout the text deals with the role of nuclear power as a determining factor of energy security. The work is divided into two parts - theoretical part (Chapter one) and research part (Chapter two and three). The first chapter of this thesis is devoted to current theoretical approaches to the issue of energy security. The issues of energy security are then examined in the final part of this chapter in terms of integration into the all-embracing EU energy policy. The second chapter provides an analysis of the current energy situation in the European Union as a whole and in individual Member States. All findings are applied with emphasis on the status of nuclear energy in the energy mix. The final chapter summarizes current nuclear energy trends in the EU. In addition, analysis of the opinion polls and government interventions in the field of nuclear energy are provided.

EU energy policy in the context of the Czech Presidency

Energy policy is one of the most important policies within the EU, whether it is considered from national or all-European point of view. Almost no European state has sufficient reserves of natural resources such as oil or natural gas and so most of them have to ensure supplies of the resources from other countries. As a result, the EU tries to solve this problem, as well as to ensure secure energy supplies for its member states. Each member can influence EU policies through the Presidency of the Council of EU. The thesis is divided into three parts. The first part deals with the EU energy policy and includes the history of its formation. In the second part, the Presidency of the Council of EU as well as its importance for particular states and the basic principles are described. The final part analyzes the Czech Presidency with focus on energetics. The aim of this thesis is to analyze priorities of the Czech Presidency in the field of energy and to evaluate the success of Czech Presidency based on their achievements.
