Databases and digital libraries for pharmaceutical disciplines

The aim of the diploma thesis is to describe and basically analyze representative databases and digital libraries that focus on pharmaceutical disciplines. The introductory chapter is concerned with related terminology, while the following chapters refer to significant subjects and principles in the field of pharmaceutical industry, and also to important classification systems and retrieval languages that can be found in some of the described resources. The fifth chapter focuses on pharmaceutical information resources which are offered by some of the world's leading database service companies. The sixth chapter contains a description and a basic analysis of 10 representative electronic resources for pharmaceutical disciplines. The empirical section of this diploma thesis consists of three major parts. One of them is a subject coverage analysis of bibliographic databases MEDLINE and EMBASE from the viewpoint of pharmaceutical information. Secondly, it contains a presentation of an indicative survey that is related to using electronic information resources by a commercial and a nonprofit subject. The last chapter deals with information brokering that is presented on example of the Medistyl company. Information support in financial institution

(anglicky) This thesis entitled Information support in a financial institution discusses how information services and resources are currently used internally in an institution focusing on the Czech banking environment. The reader is thus provided an insight directly into the organization and the position it takes towards working with information aiming at fulfilment of its employees' information needs. The thesis also reflects description of the most important information sources. Information needs of employees were analyzed and identified based on their frequency of occurrence and distribution across the bank. The following part of the work covers detailed identification of information services. The reader is hereby given the opportunity to find out where, by whom and to what extent the services are used. The conclusion deals primarily with the information models of the flow of information in the organization and the analysis of various entities affecting the relevant processes.
Analysis of information environment and information resources for pharmaceutical disciplines

The eighth chapter describes representative information resources for complementary and alternative medicine. The empirical section of this diploma thesis consists of a subject coverage analysis of bibliographic databases MEDLINE, EMBASE and BMČ from the viewpoint of pharmaceutical information, and further deals with information brokering that is presented on example of the Medistyl company. The Access to Electronic Journals - Comparison of Tools used by Selected Libraries in the CR

The bachelor thesis deals with accessing to the electronic journals in Czech Republic's libraries. The theoretical part of the thesis defines term electronic resources (ER) and its parts. The thesis describes types of tools used by libraries for accessing ER and it describes examples of particular tools. The practical part of the thesis comprises analysis (based on interviews with ER managers) of ER solutions in three libraries - Library of the Faculty of Arts of Charles University in Prague, Library of the Academy Sciences of the Czech Republic and Municipal Library of Prague. First and sekond part determinates topic of education, describes his development, problems, nomenclature, experimental method and information support. The objective of the thesis is to analyse and evaluate selected bibliographic and full-text databases, digital libraries, portals, subject gateways and catalogs. Online services are especially emphasized. Analyses are elaboration in the Czech education theory context. Final summary evaluates results of analysis.
Providing Access to Electronic Information Resources at Jan Palach Library CUFA

The bachelor thesis deals with providing access to electronic resources (ER) at Jan Palach Library CUFA. The theoretical part of the thesis defines term ER, describes their typology, deals with acquisition and management and introducing tools for using them. The thesis describes experiences of Jan Palach Library CUFA with providing access to ER and deals with information behavior of ER users. The aim of the thesis is to describe a situation in ER management on example of an university library on Faculty of Arts of Charles University in Prague. The practical part of the thesis is an user research on the method of the survey which results that situation in ER use is slowly getting better, users do not feel foreign language ER production as problem and just only small group of users attended workshop dedicated to ER, because users do not feel the need to. Influence of information technologies in Regional Scientific Library Liberec

(English) The thesis examines the influence of information and communication technologies on the automation of library management processes and services as well as their applications, with a key consideration of the environment of the District Scientific Library of the city of Liberec. The introductory chapters briefly describe the development of basic international standards for data processing and communication networks in the world. The following chapters deal with the implementation of automated library management systems and networks in the Czech Republic in the early '90s, including accompanying projects that formed an inseparable part of the development. The development of automated library management processes and services in the District Research Library of the city of Liberec from the 90s till the end of 2010 becomes the core subject hereby examined. This is closely related to the parameters of the selection and application of the library management system, including the specific features thereof, as well as its internal utilization by librarians and its utilization by external users. This diploma thesis is focused on information education and using electronic information sources in Czech Language and Literature classes at Czech secondary schools. It consists of three parts. The first, theoretical part addresses information literacy in the Czech Republic, national information education policy and contemporary trends in using modern information and communication technologies in the classroom. The second part includes an overview of open online information sources for Czech Language and Literature classes which could be used in the classroom. The thesis also includes an inquiry into the use of electronic information sources in Czech Language and Literature classes at secondary schools.
