Kony, Denisa ; Lungová, Barbora (referee) ; Klodová, Lenka (advisor)
For my bachelor's art piece, I present the results of my year-long research in the areas of relating, decolonization, and the creation of spaces. I have constructed a library space installation that projects my findings and experiences into crocheted objects, presents a collection of texts created in collectives in response to my manifesto, literature that supported the creation of the manifesto, and provides a place for rest, reflection, and education.
The British Withdrawal from India (1945-1947). A Contribution to the Study of the Final Period of the Britsh Raj
Hyhlíková, Zuzana ; Soukup, Jaromír (advisor) ; Valkoun, Jaroslav (referee)
This thesis analyses the final stage of the British reign in British India. It follows up the period since the end of the Second World War to the creation of the two dominions, whereas it deals also with the era before 1945. This thesis aims to analyse gradual change of opinion in Britain on India. There had been apparent shift of thinking in London from the fully dependence of India on the mother country to the withdrawal from this colony. Britain had to decide who to pass on the power in the country. The vision of the united state came down with the British determination to devolve the area not to one but to two political groups. As a result, two successor states were born in the half of august 1947 - India and Pakistan. Decision to divide the country, determination of strict boundaries and consequences of the division of the subcontinent had far-reaching importance. Nowadays this is very sensitive issue on the both sides of the boundary. Key words: Great Britain, India, 1945-1947, Decolonisation, Partition of India, British Raj, Independence Movement
British policy towards Malaysia and its decolonization, 1945-1971
Hladíková, Kristýna ; Váška, Jan (advisor) ; Pečenka, Marek (referee)
The bachelor thesis deals with the British policy towards Malaya and its decolonisation between 1945 and 1971. It aims to learn and describe how British cabinet approached to Malaya in the chosen time period, and to define goals of the monarchy for this country. The goals were being often changed or modified. The thesis follows also the circumstances (Malayan national demands, bad domestic economic situation, decreasing position in international politics, growing imperial commitments, the Cold War and special relationship with the US), which led to changes in British plans. It takes all the questions above impeach when appraising if Britain really attained her goals and which means she used to reach them. On these grouns it tries to assess if Britain was successful and if decolonisation in Malaya was an achievement, or not.
The First Constitution of the Republic of Cyprus and Its Effect on the Escalation of the Greco-Turkish Ethnic Conflict
Kincl, Martin ; Tejchman, Miroslav (advisor) ; Králová, Kateřina (referee)
The First Constitution of the Republic of Cyprus and its Effect on the Greco-Turkish Ethnic Conflict Abstract The main purpose of this paper is to assess the impact of the first Cypriot constitution of 1960 on the following inter-ethnic violence, which broke out in 1963. Explanation of all the relevant political crises of the early Cypriot Republic right until the meltdown of the constitutional system, provides for a wider context in which a line can be drawn between the provisions stated by the constitution and the resulting local Greco-Turkish ethnic conflict. The first half of this thesis comprises a rather theoretical view of the constitution, whose certain articles are cited whenever needed. It also includes some information about the historical and political background, summing up the causes behind the proclamation of independence itself, as well as the final shape of many controversial provisions offered by the constitution. The second half sheds some light on the complex political crises caused in part by the reluctance of both national communities to co-operate when governing the state, in part by the very system outlined by the constitution. A few of the last sub- chapters deal with the aforementioned ethnic conflict of 1963 onwards, provoked by a then president Makarios' attempt to amend the...

The Mestizo Consciousness
Santos Nascimento, André Luis ; Goddard, Jean-Christophe (advisor) ; Novotný, Karel (referee)
"The Mestizo Consciousness" is a research based on the work of the Mexican-American researcher Glória Anzaldúa and her definition of people who live between the borders of the dualism of society, whether they are borders of race, physical borders between countries, moral borders or political, linguistic or sexual borders. By first analysing the place of the mestizo, we will follow the development of this "non-place" from Alzaldúa onwards and the way in which it affects the individual and society. To do this, we will draw on the thought and experience of the authors we have called upon, such as Alzandúa herself, Derrida in "The Monolingualism of the Other" and the life and philosophy of the indigenous Yanomami people, starting with Davi Kopenawa's "The Fall of Heaven". We will show that dualism has been and continues to be present in our society, how it directly affects the life and philosophy of each individual and we will think about the empowerment of those who are outside this model, which passes less through the recognition of this dualism, than through the affirmation, acceptance and admiration of each characteristic that defines the individual in his or her difference. KEY WORDS: ANZALDÚA, DERRIDA, KOPENAWA, METIZA, CONSCIOUSNESS, DECOLONISATION, BORDERLANDS
