Phenomenon of homelessness in contemporary Czech society in confrontation with situation and approach in EU

The aim of this thesis is an analysis of aspects of establishment of publicly political issue of homelessness in contemporary Czech society. It focuses in particular on the analysis of the dimension of the selected issue and on detecting and defining of various resolution examples applied to homelessness within the framework of the Czech Republic and European Union. It attempts to survey the contemporary homelessness situation in the Czech Republic by means of methods selected from the sphere of public politics from the perspective of experts, general public as well as the perspective of the people without shelter themselves by means of registration of their individual stories acquired by direct questioning. One of the substantial components of the thesis comprises the delimitation and definition of the cognitive problem which constitutes the initial stage for the comprehension of surveyed issue and implementation of the analysis from the perspective of public politics. The thesis focuses in particular on the issue of homelessness in the Czech Republic and on the aspects closely connected with the phenomenon, which reflects in the mirror of public politics at most.
Comparison of Tools for Measuring Homelessness at Local and Regional Level

The thesis deals with the issue of enumerating and mapping the needs of the homeless. It compares tools for measuring homelessness which are described in literature and shows the way for implementation of measuring within the area of smaller municipalities. Findings about homelessness, homeless phenomenon and services for the homeless published in the literature are discussed at the beginning of the theoretical part. The core fragment of the theoretical part is devoted to a discussion on the basis and ways of measuring homelessness both in the Czech Republic and abroad. Different tools for measuring homelessness are compared in the thesis, appended with commentaries reflecting author's own multiyear experiences with providing services for target group and his involvement in surveys. The empirical part describes the process of verifying the applicability of the given methodology for enumerating and mapping the needs of homeless in practice. The procedures how author reached the final adjustments of the given methodology are described in this part. The modified methodology for counting and mapping the needs of homeless is presented in the conclusion. At final stage the modified methodology is compared with the methodology used for enumerating homeless in the United States.
Housing market and Risk of Homelessness in the Czech republic

Martina Mikeszová : PHD DISSERTATION - HOUSING MARKET AND RISK OF HOMELESSNESS IN THE CZECH REPUBLIC. ABSTRACT The PhD dissertation focuses on the theme of loss of permanent housing together with the problematic of housing affordability in the Czech Republic. In the first part, the objective is to identify the types of households potentially at risk of being unable to afford housing since 2000, and to trace the development of regional differences in the percentage of at-risk households in the Czech Republic. In the regard to the end of deregulation process in recent years, the analysis of housing (un)affordability of "market" rent housing shows the possible social consequences of the process. Owing to the absence of useful aggregate data on incomes and expenditures for different household types in the regions of the Czech Republic, the alternative data sources and the simulation methodology for measuring housing affordability which combines available regional wage statistics and data on market rents were used. The results indicate that the general risk of being unable to afford rental housing and regional differences in housing affordability are both decreasing. The use of cognitive-behavioral therapy in social work with homeless

The thesis contains two parts, to bind: The first part describes the phenomenon of homelessness and homeless people in the Czech Republic, with main reference to their ambiguous definition. Characterizes the dedicated assistance to the homeless and from social work to therapeutic help. Describes the basic form of therapeutic exposure and focus, emphasizes psychotherapeutic orientations, which are suitable for a group of homeless people, with an emphasis on cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT). The first part of the research continues, describing the organization of the St. Paul's House (DsP), which took place in the first orientation research whose aim was to determine whether CBT is the most appropriate psychotherapeutic direction in psychotherapeutic work with the homeless in the DsP, and how psychotherapy is implemented in the DsP. After the landmark research was carried out research whose aim was to find feedback, experience and opinion shelter users in the implementation of the DsP and the course of psychotherapy.
HOMELESSNESS AND THE SERVICES OFFERED COMPARISON CHURCH DEVICES FOR WOMEN HOMELESS IN SOUTH BOHEMIA

This work deals with homelessness and then focuses on a man without a home and services provided by religious institutions in South Bohemia. The theoretical part explains some of the concepts, such as homelessness and homeless, the concept of material or social distress, poverty and social exclusion, charity of the Church. Further describes the two charity organizations and facilities providing care to people (or men) homeless. The practical part describes services from the perspective of clients of two devices described above, the scope of services offered, and actual use of any missing areas of care, as perceived by users of the facility. It is a shelter St. Peter and St. House shelter. Paul (St. House. Paul provides more services and one of them is offering shelter). The conclusions point to the need of the individual's own motivation and also the need to provide the necessary care to individual becoming socially excluded.
The lifestyle of homeless people in the area of České Budějovice

The life style of the homeless in České Budějovice is varied, and these people do not take homelessness their own life style. The most common cause of homelessness is disagreement between parents, even if the majority passed their childhood within the properly functioning family. In most of cases, the men are single, without a partner. Over a half of the homeless people in České Budějovice are healthy, and they regard health important. The majority of them do not use health services and they do not pay the health insurance. Over a half do not get financial means by means of their own work, which means that they either draw employment benefits, material shortage benefits, or they go begging. As against this, the majority is looking for a job, do occasional work or are registered unemployed at the job centre. The unemployed in St. Paul{\crq}s House have their own meals and they keep to the regular drinking regime. People living outdoor eat of what they cadge or what they get from people in streets. In the category of those addicted it ensued that the dependence on cigarettes of the homeless is a more frequent phenomenon than on alcohol. Over a half of the homeless people in České Budějovice use the sanitary facility in St. Paul{\crq}s House. People living outdoor do their hygiene in the river, mostly. In their free time, over a half of the homeless go in for their jobs or seeking for a job. In the evening people attending St. Paul{\crq}s House watch TV, and people living outdoor drink alcohol and relax. Over a half of the homeless have a regular daily routine. Most of the homeless is not concerned in what is happening around. Over a half of the homeless people do not anything about being homeless, they are unsatisfied with their life situation, they perceive it to be wrong, serious, and therefore to be changed. As for the values, they consider health the most important value, while the least important one for them is their own housing. The primary idea of this Diploma Thesis is to make both lay and professional public acquainted, and help to increase awareness of the said problem.
