The main of this thesis is a Czech translation of one part of Vladimir Putin's biography. An essential part is constituted by a commentary on the translation. The commentary consist of several parts, namely of a translation analysis of the source text in which Christiane Nord's model is used and intratextual and extratextual factors analyzed. Further, there is an overall approach to the translation, the translation method. Finally, the last part - translation problems typology and translation shifts - deals with the problems which occurred in the translation process. A. Akhmatova's and M. Tsvetaeva's Poetics and Its Rendering in Czech Translations

The thesis focuses on the rendering of the poetics of Anna Akhmatova and Marina Tsvetaeva in Czech translations. The first part deals with the phenomenon of poetesses in the Russian literature and subsequently with Akhmatova's and Tsvetaeva's life, works, style and reception. The second part is focused on contrastive translatological analysis of different approaches to their poetry and detailed analysis of existing Czech translations of Akhmatova's poem Rekviem and Tsvetaeva's work Popytka revnosti. It defines the approach of all translators to translation and evaluates the quality and adequacy of individual translation solutions in relation to the author's style and intention.

The thesis contains a translation of the chapter The hungerstrikes 1980-81 from the book Making Sense of the Troubles by David McKittrick and David McVea and a commentary on the translation. The first part of the commentary includes a translation analysis of the source text on different levels. The second part consists of a typology of translation problems on those levels and an overall approach to translation. The third chapter describes the translation method and specific strategies for dealing with the outlined translation problems. The commentary is concluded by a typology of translation shifts.

RESUME The aim of this study was to make an adequate functional translation of two short stories - Cloud (Oblak) and Milky Way (Mléčná dráha) - taken from the book of contemporary Czech writer Jan Balabán We are here (Jsme tady) and its translation comments. The first three chapters of this diploma work present a multiple-aspect analysis of original texts, define the translation method and concept, which aim to reproduce correctly the aesthetic function of analyzed literary works with the strengthening their communicative and informational functions. The last two chapters are devoted to analysis of translational difficulties and changes, which take place in the course of work and primarily cover lexical and pragmatic levels of texts.
