Stibůrková, Kamila ; Harsa, Pavel (advisor) ; Peřinová, Radka (referee)
Title: The Relationship between a Coach and an Athlete Suffering from Eating disorder: Case Studies Objectives: The bachelor thesis aims to evaluate the relationship between a coach and an athlete suffering from an eating disorder. I aim to identify correlations emerging from individual case studies of participants who were coached, while also dealing with an eating disorder. My primary focus is analyzing the coach's behavior and its impact on the athlete within this context, particularly regarding trust and communication. Methods: In my thesis, I decided to do qualitative research in the form of semi-structured interviews. Then I created 4 case studies describing the stories of sportswomen who suffered from an eating disorder in the past. Results: Research results show that coaching behaviors and interactions can play a key role in the development of eating disorders in athletes. The analysis of the cases of female respondents shows that coaches who show insufficient understanding, inappropriate communication, and pressure to perform can contribute to negative self-evaluation and a decrease in self-confidence in athletes. These are all factors associated with the development of eating disorders. Keywords: eating disorders, anorexia, bulimia, binge eating, coach-athlete relationship, mental health,...

Pro-Ana Phenomenon on Twitter
Temesgenová, Natálie ; Hrešanová, Ema (advisor) ; Hájek, Martin (referee)
Pro-ana is an abbreviation of pro anorexia, referring to supporting and favouring of anorexia and understanding it rather as a choice, not a disease. On social media platforms this phenomenon is embedded in communities gathering to exchange knowledge and practices and provide social support to each other. This master's thesis aims to explore this phenomenon on Twitter by conducting digital ethnography and scrutinizing the development of the pro-ana discourse and its relation to biomedical discourse. In regards to the findings, the relation between the biomedical and pro-ana discourse is rather one sided and parasitical. This relation provides a foundation to conceptualizing the pro-ana phenomenon as an emancipating self-help people changing institution, allowing for holistic perspective and greater understanding of the discourse rooted in the discourse itself.

Baumann, Silvie ; Papežová, Hana (advisor) ; Ustohal, Libor (referee) ; Stárková, Libuše (referee)
Background: Eating disorders are psychiatric illnesses whose treatment is difficult and usually the classic procedures fail. Recently, the number of researches in neuromodulatory methods has increased. I present an overview of basic stimulation methods, their use in the treatment of anorexia nervosa (AN), bulimia nervosa and binge-eating and the results of our study focused on the treatment of AN by transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS). Methods: It was a randomized, double-blind, sham-controlled trial. Forty-three inpatients with AN were divided to receive either active (n=22) or sham (n=21) tDCS over the left DLPFC (anode F3/cathode Fp2, 2mA for 30 minutes). All patients filled the Eating Disorder Examination Questionnaire (EDE-Q) and Zung depression scale (ZUNG), we measured them the thermal pain threshold, the objective dissatisfaction with their own body by Anamorfic program and evaluated BMI before the first and after the last tDCS. Follow-up was after 2 and 4 weeks. It was evaluated using ANOVA and OPLS model. Results: Compared to sham tDCS, active tDCS improved self-evaluation based on one's body shape (p < 0,05) and significantly decreased the need of excessive control over calorie intake (p < 0,05) in 4-week follow-up (questions 4 and 23 in EDE-Q).
