A transgender pupil in the environment of czech elementary school
Menšíková, Denisa ; Richterová, Magdalena (advisor) ; Linková, Marie (referee)
The issue of gender identity is rapidly pervading the school environment. It is important that teachers continue in their efforts to provide a safe and respectful environment for all students, including those who are dealing with their gender identity or identify as transgender. Teachers and other school staff need sufficient information and support to fulfil the principle of a safe and respectful environment. This raises many questions about the rights and needs not only of the transgender individuals themselves, but also of other pupils, their parents and teachers, as it is important to recognise that the situation related to the issue of transgender is very challenging for those around the pupil who identifies as such. Firstly, the thesis presents a theoretical framework in which it defines the basic concepts related to transgender issues, describes the development of gender identity in children and adolescents, explains the process of gender reassignment in the Czech Republic and shows the results of current research, which shows that the situation for transgender pupils and students is not yet favourable in the school environment. Secondly, the thesis analyses the selected documents in terms of their content in order to find out and, if necessary, to investigate whether there is currently any...
The Depiction of Gender in Terry Pratchett's Discworld
Mládek, Pavel ; Topolovská, Tereza (advisor) ; Ženíšek, Jakub (referee)
This work concerns itself with the Discworld series of the British fantasy author Terry Pratchett, and with how sex and gender are depicted in it. It mainly looks at the books Feet of Clay (1996), The Fifth Elephant (1999), Monstrous Regiment (2003), and Raising Steam (2013), which deal with these topics the most openly. It attempts to reveal whether the series presents more the view that sex and gender are tightly intertwined, or even that gender does not exist at all, so-called gender critical view, or whether gender and sex are more or less independent of each other and the characters in the series may present a gender different from the one assigned to them at birth. At the same time the work examines whether the depictions of gender evolve as the series go on or not.

The practical part relies on the theoretical part and focuses on the depiction of gender transition of transgender characters from the two novels analysing the selected aspects of the characters' transition journeys. The identity and social interactions of nonbinary adolescents
Divišová, Nikola ; Smetáčková, Irena (advisor) ; Taušová, Jitka (referee)
The diploma thesis focuses on the identity, gender experience, and social interactions of young nonbinary people in the Czech Republic. The research aims to contribute to filling a gap in Czech scientific literature and to improve our understanding of nonbinary people's experiences, which is necessary for psychological practice with nonbinary clients. In relation to this aim, the thesis has three objectives. To understand the concept of gender and one's own gender identity among young nonbinary persons in the Czech Republic. To explore what factors play a role in the choice of a label for one's gender identity and how nonbinary persons think about different identities. As for our final goal, we set out to explore the effects of choosing a specific label on social interactions. The theoretical part of the thesis focuses on identity, nonbinary gender, language, and the social experiences of nonbinary people. As part of the empirical part, we conducted eleven interviews with non-binary people aged 18-23, which were then analysed using reflexive thematic analysis. This resulted in four themes: "I exist the way I want," "To make it easier," "It's an option," and "Relationship with masculinity and femininity." Based on our analysis, the research questions were then answered. The thesis showed that...
Rights of transgender persons according to the ECHR with focus on sex reassignment
Šebková, Karolina ; Lipovský, Milan (advisor) ; Honusková, Věra (referee)
Rights of transgender persons according to the ECHR with focus on sex reassignment Abstract Although trans* people, regardless of the specifics of their life experience, are full-fledged members of society, society puts numerous obstacles in their way. Some of them are so serious that they are considered to be a violation of basic human rights. This paper therefore deals with the rights of trans* people from the perspective of the European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR). How this international instrument perceives such rights is ascertained through practice of the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR). The research goal of the work is to find out and analyze how the rights of trans* people are protected by international human rights law through the ECHR, i.e. how these rights are protected by the European Court of Human Rights. Furthermore, as part of the legal analysis, provide a basic overview of trans* people as a group and focus on the concept of "sex reassignment" and its problematic side. To this end, the author poses a research question: How does the European Convention for the Protection of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms protect the rights of trans* people and how does the European Court of Human Rights approach their protection? The thesis mainly focuses on the issue of legal recognition...
The status of transgender persons in civil law
Reck, Martin ; Elischer, David (advisor) ; Hrádek, Jiří (referee)
The status of transgender persons in civil law Abstract The thesis focuses on the legal regulation of gender reassignment in the Czech Republic, both in terms of civil law and constitutional law. The thesis initially focuses mainly on the correct definition of important terms and their essential meaning. Attention is paid not only to transsexuality itself and its forms, but also to related conditions such as intersexuality and transvestitism. After discussing the human rights foundations of gender reassignment, the thesis briefly discusses the historical genesis of the legal regulation of gender reassignment. This is followed by a description of the currently effective legislation, including its shortcomings with regard not only to domestic law but also to the Czech Republic's international obligations under international human rights treaties. In this area, the greatest emphasis is then placed on the decision-making of the European Court of Human Rights, which is more advanced than Czech national courts in this area. Apart from transsexuality and the process of gender reassignment, the thesis also focuses on the opposite phenomenon, namely detransition. This topic is often neglected, even though it is a topic essentially inseparable from gender reassignment and offers many interesting legal issues. The...
Preferred gender pronouns from the journalistic ethics point of view on the example of Czech news sites
Netíková, Magdaléna ; Klabíková Rábová, Tereza (advisor) ; Schneiderová, Soňa (referee)
This bachelor thesis observes the way Czech news sites inform about people with preferred gender pronouns other than he/him or she/her. Its goal is to investigate the possibilities of a gender-neutral language in Czech and in what ways they can be applied in journalistic practice. Implementing qualitative interviews with editors of Czech news sites, I aimed to find out what their experiences are with editing texts that report on, for example, transgender or non-binary person. Among other things, I was interested in whether the respondent's wish to use their preferred pronouns would be respected by the journalist, whether there is a discussion between the author and the editor regarding the appropriate language, and who has the last word in the newsroom regarding this topic. Based on the interviews, the factors affecting journalists' approach to reporting on transgender and non-binary people were presented, and it was stated that the topic of different gender identities can in its current form be considered an ethical problem, as well as a linguistic problem.
