City House – Mixet Use Architecture

The territory lies in the City of Brno, in the urban district of Zábrdovice. From the east it is demarcated by the Svitava River, from the south by the Cejl Street, and from the west by the Jan Svoboda Street. Its area is approximately 18,790 m2. From the standpoint of urban planning¸ the intensive house is a separate city block, which is, nevertheless, open in the eastern direction towards the Svitava River, thus communicating with the embankment. In the other direction there is both private and semi-private space inside the block as a relaxation green “garden” in several levels. The mass of the object links up in the prolonged line with the existing neighbouring blocks and thus respects the integrity of the territory. Intensive use of the territory consists in the achievement of high density of built-up area, and at the same time preserving the surroundings of quality for life and habitation. Functions are mixed here and a city of short distances is created here with nearly excluded traffic. In order to achieve such intensity, space urbanism is employed. The principle consists in a simple linear form of masses respecting the shape of the lot, which is vivified with an ellipsoid located in the courtyard, which is an accent towards the linear form. The ellipsoid serves as a small cultural and exhibition centre, at the same time connecting all the arms of the defining block and bringing daylight to the first floor. The block is open in the direction to the river and its half-public space is connected with the embankment with a staircase and verdure. Verdure is also made use of on the roofs. The defining mass is perforated, thus creating covered terraces. The principal architectonic intention was to create an integrated structure, where a significant role is played by the introduction of nature and polyfunctionality to the whole territory, thus increasing its attractivity. Communication with Media and Public at Emergencies

The bachelor’s thesis deals with communication with media and public at emergencies. The fundamental topic are the emergencies, their definitions, classification and the fact, that emergencies occur more frequently and attract public and media attention. Communication is the next presented topic as well as its classification, function and barriers to communicate effectively. Further part is devoted to general characteristics of media, its role in contemporary society and impact on the public. One part also pays attention to the media behaviour and journalistic ethics. The next part characterizes methods of population warning at emergencies, which are available for the government as well as the methods how media are informed at emergencies. Therefore state administration need experienced people having knowledge about emergencies, communication with the public and media, being able to present these problems adequately.

Popularisation of Science in the Czech Republic

Bakalářská práce se zabývá tématem popularizace vědy. Cílem práce je definovat subjekty zabývající se popularizací vědy a zjistit informovanost veřejnosti o daném tématu. První část práce je zaměřena na definici termínu popularizace vědy. V druhé části jsou popsány rozdíly v učení dospělých a dětí. Třetí část ukazuje subjekty popularizace vědy a následující kapitola, založená na dotazníku, popisuje povědomí obyvatel Brna a jeho okolí o možnostech popularizace vědy. Závěrečná kapitola se věnuje tvorbě popularizačně naučného programu zaměřeného na téma elektřina a magnetismus.

Postavení myslivosti v rámci současné české společnosti

This thesis deals with how the general public perceives hunting and hunting activities. Nowadays, more and more citizens are diverting from their relationship to nature and do not realize that hunting and the overall hunting activity positively contributes to maintaining the balance between nature and man. Also, few people admit that hunting is closely linked to nature protection and is not just about hunting. However, hunting is nowadays an important step towards reducing game numbers, especially because of the considerable damage that is usually caused by game to forest stands. In order to address the aim of the thesis, a questionnaire survey method was used, where two types of questionnaire were designed for different groups of respondents. With the help of this research, it was found that people living in the village have a more positive attitude towards nature and hunting than people living in the city. It was also found that the general public has a 70 % positive perception of deer, despite the fact that this species of game causes considerable damage to forest stands. The analysis also revealed that hunters should focus more on awareness-raising activities to make the general public more aware of their activities.

The Legitimacy of Public Service Media in the 21st Century: The Role of Audience Analysis

The dissertation thesis addresses the current position of European public service media. After many years in the position of naturally monopolistic broadcasters, these media are competing for attention not only with a number of private media but also with an unlimited number of online platforms. The thesis analyzes the main potential threats to the legitimacy of public service media and gradually describes the normative requirements that are imposed on public service media primarily by legislation, but that also arise from a socio-historical context. Furthermore, it describes technological trends in the media sector that influence media consumption patterns. Finally, it covers the transformation of the relationship between public service media and their audience. The audience and their expectations are identified as the key source of public service media legitimacy. The research in the thesis aims to analyze to what extent and how the public service media in Europe use audience analysis when defending their own legitimacy. It also presents specific recommendations and results of the author's own quantitative pilot research on a representative sample of the Czech population, which verifies the potential of some of these recommendations on the example of the Czech Television's perception.

STU Innovation Center, BA internal transformation

The assignment of the bachelor's thesis is the proposal of the Innovation Center for the Slovak Technical University (hereinafter referred to as STU) in Bratislava. The work is based on the architectural study of the subject AG033, which, however, was largely revised based on the expansion of information from the management of the STU faculties. The site of the proposed building is located in the inner block, which consists of four existing STU faculty buildings. The complex of these buildings stands right in the centre of the capital city, which means that not only the building of the innovation center itself, but also its surrounding public spaces, or inner block. According to the requirements of the assignment, the innovation center should serve not only the needs of the university but also as a platform for cooperation between the private, public and scientific sectors. It is also supposed to promote not only STU but also technology as such and attract a wide range of people. Therefore, the spatial content of the innovation center is very wide. There are laboratories, the office of the rector's office, rentable premises, lecture halls, libraries and a study room.

The possibilities of home care from the perspective of nurses and the general public

This bachelor thesis is focused on the awareness of nurses and the general public about the services of home health care agencies. The work is divided into two parts, theoretical and practical. The theoretical part includes the issue of home care and the characteristics of the role of nurses in home care. The results obtained in the research investigation are processed and evaluated in the practical part. Four objectives have been chosen for the bachelor thesis which focus on the awareness of nurses and the general public about the possibilities of home care. The research part was divided into four groups. First two groups were focused on nurses, where nurses from inpatient sectors were in the first group of respondents and nurses from outpatient sectors were in the second group. The other two groups were aimed at the general public, with the third group of respondents being the general public and the fourth group being clients currently treated by a home care agency. To meet the objectives, a semi-structured interview was chosen which included eighteen questions for nurses and twelve questions for patients. It is evident from the results focused on the group of nurses, that only nurses who are directly involved in the process, have detailed information about home care options. Furthermore, in the inpatient wards, nurses perceives lack of time and unresolved contractual relations with insurance companies as major barriers in the process of referring clients to home care agencies. From the results aimed at a group of the general public who have never personally encountered the service, awareness is very marginal. In contrast, clients treated by a home care agency have a greater awareness. Submitted thesis provides a better understanding of home care, identifies gaps in awareness among nurses and the general public, highlights the problems encountered during the collaboration between the home care agency and the referring facility.

Yellowhammer dialects and citizen science

Bird dialects, the cultural phenomena that can be linked to migration, gene flow, speciation and cultural evolution, have been studied extensively. The yellowhammer Emberiza citrinella, a common European bird with a simple song and long singing season, has been a model species for studying dialects for decades. In this thesis, I collate several studies that benefited from citizen science approaches to push this field forward. First, we have compiled and unified information on yellowhammer dialect distribution scattered in numerous publications, and unified different dialect nomenclatures used in the past. We supplemented this with data available thanks to volunteers contributing to public databases and other online sources, and demonstrated that the continental distribution patterns of yellowhammer dialects do not support the existence of broad, geographically distinct macrodialect groups as previously believed. In 2011, as part of the Bird of the Year campaign of the Czech Society of Ornithology, we launched a year-long public awareness project "Dialects of Czech Yellowhammers". The Private and the Public in the Work of Libuše Jarcovjáková

The bachelor thesis is dedicated to the interpretation of the work of the Czech female photographer Libuše Jarcovjáková and aims to emphasize its importance and uniqueness for Czech and world photography. The theoretical part introduces the author, her cultural background, consisting of important personalities of the Czechoslovak art scene, and her still- evolving work and projects. It offers an insight into the world of photography through the search for similarities and differences with the work of Nan Goldin, with whom she is often compared in the Czech and foreign context. It focuses mainly on the work from the 1970s and 1980s, presented in the author's book Černé roky (The Black Years), its setting in the contemporary context, and the interpretation of selected photographs in terms of form and content. The interpretation focuses mainly on the search for the boundaries of the private and public, the issue of censorship and self-censorship, and the projection of these influences into the author's photographs. The didactic part of the thesis is a pedagogical project combining the knowledge and experience from the theoretical and practical parts of the work.
