Television debates before the second round of the 2023 presidential election of the Czech Republic: Types of communication used by candidates according to functional theory

The thesis deals with the pre-election TV debates before the second round of the presidential elections in 2023. Based on Functional Theory, the aim of the paper is to identify the types of messages that candidates Andrej Babiš and Petr Pavel used in the pre-election television debates ahead of the second round of the 2023 presidential election. Furthermore, the aim is to compare these results with the findings of previous works analysing the pre-election debates of the 2013 and 2018 presidential elections. Furthermore, the time allocation given to the candidates in the debates is compared. The theoretical part of the paper first focuses on the link between politics and media, public and private ones and political communication, political actors, media campaigns and negativity. Next, the emergence of pre-election debates in the United States and the presidential election in the Czech Republic is described. The thesis includes a review of research on pre-election debates and a description of the Functional Theory used. Next, the thesis continues with the methodology. The role of the President of the Republic in the appointment, acceptance of resignation and dismissal of the Government, the Prime Minister and members of the Government Abstract The thesis deals with the role of the President of the Republic in the appointment, acceptance of resignation and dismissal of the Government, the Prime Minister and members of the Government. It is structured into an introduction, three body parts and a conclusion. The first part offers a brief overview of the relevant legislation, not only in terms of constitutional law, but also ordinary acts and European regulations. The second part focuses on the classification of the Czech political system in context of the three basic forms of republican government, which are the presidential system, the semi- presidential system, and the parliamentary system. This classification establishes basic points of departure, which are useful in certain situations for the identification of a more systemically appropriate interpretation. This section also deals with the theoretical possibility of changing the type of government system solely based on the President's exercising his powers and offers the views of political scientists and constitutional lawyers on this issue. Targeting and positioning in a presidential election campaign of Petr Pavel - young voters generation

This bachelor thesis deals with targeting and positioning of the presidential election campaign of Petr Pavel and focuses mainly on addressing the youngest generation of voters, Generation Z. The 2023 presidential election was different in several ways, but one of them was, for example, the targeting of some candidates to Generation Z. The generation currently includes the majority of voters who participated in the presidential election for the first time, and who may also have followed it more closely for the first time. The aim of this thesis is therefore to find out to what extent the targeting and positioning of the campaign was adapted to Generation Z in the development of the strategy, and also to find out whether Petr Pavel was able to reach this target group through the campaign and through which steps he achieved this. The theoretical part of the thesis first describes and defines the tools of political marketing, characterizes Generation Z and the specifics of their voting behaviour. Comparative analysis of the communication strategies in chosen media of candidates for the presidential elections in 2023 in the second round

In this thesis, a comparative analysis of the communication strategies of the presidential candidates in the 2023 elections Ing. Andrej Babiš and arm. gen. v.v. Ing. Petr Pavel, M.A. is carried out. The work starts with a description of the election process. The AMI Digital Index 2022, which is a survey in the field of social networks, is presented. In the next chapter, the theoretical framework of the work is presented, starting with the characteristics of the examinated media. The following is a brief description of the course of presidential elections in the past. Then the process of data collection is described and the method of social network analysis is presented. The following are individual analyses of social networks. First, six analyses of Andrej Babiš's communication are presented, as well as Petr Pavel's. This is followed by a description of the most symbolic themes of the individual campaigns. The next part is devoted to the characteristics of the analysis of pre-election debates, and then the analyses themselves and their comparison are discussed. This thesis analyzes the exceeding of selected presidential powers regarding appointments in the Czech Republic. Included in the analysis were the presidential appointment powers set out in the Constitution, including the appointment of professors and rectors. All controversial cases of appointments from 1993 to 2023 involving Václav Havel, Václav Klaus and Miloš Zeman. The aim of this thesis was to determine whether presidents have exceeded their powers of appointment and in what situations they may have done so. Based on detailed research and analysis, key cases that led to overstepping of powers were identified. The results of this thesis provide insights into how presidential appointment powers are interpreted and how theoretical interpretation intersects with the practice of individual presidents. Dispute over the appointment of Jan Lipavský as Minister of Foreign Affairs

The Bachelor thesis focuses on the dispute over the appointment of Jan Lipavský as Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic between the President Miloš Zeman and the designated Prime Minister Petr Fiala in December 2021. This case is put into a context of similar previous events during the presidency of Václav Havel and Václav Klaus. The aim of this thesis is to examine the argumentation behind Zeman's previous rejections or objections to the nominated ministers. Also, it is focused on describing the main types of argumentations and the way in which the last case of rejection of the Czech Pirate Party nominee Lipavský responds to them. It is through both broader and narrower contexts that this thesis explores Zeman's justification for the refusal of this candidate. The research shows that Zeman's reasoning in this case mostly corresponds to the main types of his previous argumentations. This thesis also deals in detail with the process leading to the appointment of Jan Lipavský and the government of Petr Fiala. It includes both the professional political-science and constitutional-legal discussion, as well as the public discussion which arose from Zeman's refusal to appoint Lipavský and mostly disagreed with his move. Direct Presidential Election in the Czech Republic in 2013 and 2018

The aim of the thesis is to present the first two direct presidential elections in the Czech Republic. The first part deals with the position of presidents in particular political systems. It is followed by introducing the way of the presidential elections in the Czech Republic between 1993-2008 and a brief description of the elections in that period. The third part focuses on introducing the direct election itself and its legislative specification. I have described some disputes and situations which preceded introducing the new presidential election. Two main parts of the thesis present the candidates, pre-election debates, campaigns, pre-election surveys and the results of the presidential elections in 2013 and 2018. Further, I have evaluated the impacts of the direct presidential elections. The last part pays particular attention to prospects for the 2023 elections.
Václav Havel in Czech News Agency reports after 2011

This diploma thesis maps the media interest in former president Václav Havel by the Czech News Agency during the 10 years following his death in December 2011. It focuses not only on the number of reports, but also compares the individual years with regard to what events influence the number of reports that mention the former president. Using full-text searches in the Czech News Agency's Infobank, metadata codes used by the agency to classify news, and quantitative content analysis with the addition of evaluative elements, the paper tracks which topics most frequently appear in the agency's text service in connection with Václav Havel, whether the president is the main actor in the news, or what the tonality of news texts is in relation to him. The theoretical part defines the basic concepts and theories related to the social and media construction of reality, media image and media logic. The contextual part introduces in rough outlines the personality of Václav Havel. The methodological part deals with the specifics of the news text service offered by Czech News Agency and presents the research methods used. The research part presents the results of the analysis.
