ODA as an actor in the formation of the right and Czech conservatism

The thesis deals with the formation of the Czech conservative right with the Civic Democratic Alliance in the leading role. It describes how the party participated in the transformation of the political system and describes its most significant moments. Since the germs of right-wing thinking can be found in the communist environment, the thesis also captures the risks that this entailed at the time. The aim is also to capture the party's profiling on the political ground, so its basic political themes and electoral programmes, which were often difficult to grasp in political practice, will be portrayed. It therefore focuses not only on the party's achievements in a relatively short time interval, but also on the affairs that have had an impact on the party. From the first to the second section, the thesis discusses party theory, party families, and the two core ideologies that initially inspired the founders of the Civic Democratic Alliance in detail. The theoretical framework thus helps to understand the principles on which the party operated and the programmatic values it drew upon. The aim of this thesis will be to characterize the formation of Czech conservative and rightwing thinking in political practice, which seemed to be something completely unimaginable in the communist environment of the time. Although the roots of Anglo-Saxon conservatism go back to the 18th century, it is difficult to define it as a modern ideology at this time. Its meaning has evolved and changed over time, but in some ways it could be said that the basic principles of conservatism have survived to this day. In this thesis, I will primarily reflect on values such as freedom, equality, property, tradition and morality because it is these values that the ODA, as the primary actor with which this thesis is primarily concerned, drew upon in a society shaped by communism and the vision of socialism as the only possible path for the emergence of rightwing politics.

The Right and the Left

1 Right and left Abstract This work is standing on two main pillars, consisting of two parts. The first part describes the left right spectrum, showing possible alternatives, examining whether there is superiority to this concept of classification of the political spectrum and where does it lie. The second part is a look into the history of the left right dualism, its origin and changes through time from its beginning up to the year of 1989, showing the changeability of political conflict, mainly through time but also through space. First part focuses on left right dualism itself, explaining how we understand it, mentioning some competitive concepts and presenting chosen ones. The outcome of this part is an attempt at synthesis of two to three concepts into a final scheme, that is not letting go of the left right division, while trying to include a level of predictive value. The historical second part begins with two critically influential revolutions, which shook the western world, but which ended with formation of democracies comparable to ones we see today. The Rise of Populism in Germany and Austria. A Comparison of Political Programmes of AfD and FPÖ.

This thesis deals with the phenomena of Austrian and German populism that is represented by two political parties - Freedom Party of Austria (Freiheitliche Partei Österreichs, FPÖ) and Alternative for Germany (Alternative für Deutschland, AfD). The work focuses mainly on political manifestos that were published in the run up to the elections to German Bundestag and Austrian National Council that were held in July and September 2017. For the both of the parties the elections in 2017 meant a significant success and a rise of votes. While Freedom Party of Austria is an established part of National Council, Alternative for Germany managed for the time the 5 % electoral threshold which is required to become entitled in the Bundestag after being established in 2013. The main aim of this thesis is to analyse their manifestos and decide whether the anti-establishment positions, xenophobic and racist narratives and the emphasis on traditional values are included. Firstly, the theoretical part explains the term of populism, its characteristics and define the examined thematic fields. Reasons for Voting Right among Students in Prague

The bachelor's thesis deals with the topic that has not been examined in the Czech Republic yet. This thesis is focused on voting behavior of students at public universities, specifically the students of social sciences and humanities in Prague. With regard to the results of foreign studies, wherein these students generally tend to select left-wing parties and candidates, this research focuses on students who vote for right-wing parties and candidates. The aim of this thesis is to determine the reason why Czech students have the opposite preferences than their counterparts in Western democracies. Data are obtained from the interviews with students who cast their vote in the elections to the Chamber of Deputies of the Parliament of the Czech Republic between years 2010 and 2013, and at least in one round of the presidential elections in 2013. Interviews are structured into several thematic areas, such as family, friends, studies, etc., which correspond with the expected effects on voting behavior. Analysis of the interviews showed that the respondents' voting preferences are mostly influenced by the family, high school education and the media, including Facebook. Development of Right Wing Political Parties in the Czech Republic in 1996-2006

My goal in this work is analyzing of developement of czech systemic right wing parties between 1996 and 2006. I will research every czech systemic right wing party, which was in this time in Chamber of Deputies of Parlament of the Czech Republic. While Civic Democratic Party is traditionally one of two most strong czech political parties and Christian Democratic Union - Czechoslovak People's Party was in this time every terms in Chamber of Deputies too, other right-wing parties experienced many changes. After establishing of Miloš Zeman's government, tolered by Civic Democratic Party, smaller right wing parties established Four-coalition. These parties have had differend life story. While Union of freedom and Christian democratic union - Czechoslovak people's party were in Chamber of Deputies, Civic Democratic Alliance didn't také place in parlamentary elections in 1998 and Democratic Union wasn't in Chamber of Deputies. Later, Democratic Union was united with Union od Freedom. Four-coalition couldn't také place in parlamentary elections in 2002, because Civic Democratic Alliance was sacked from this coalition because of financial troubles.
