The Space for All of Us
Dobiášová, Dominika ; Poliačková, Martina (referee) ; Štindlová, Marie (advisor)
The diploma work Sanctuary for Each of Them consists of a series of objects and paintings in which I try to capture the mutual necessity and ambiguity of the individual's position in society. I am trying to bring the viewers to a strange, unsettling place where a series of plots and stories take place. Relationships develop between the characters, but also between them and the fictional world in which their stories are set. Motifs and characters from the paintings then transition into anthropomorphic objects - figures depicted in glassware and table bases. In this way, the action shifts directly into the physical space of the gallery and turns into a scenography that can be entered and interacted with on a personal level.

Dickens's characters
ČERNOŠKOVÁ, Barbora
This thesis deals with the characters in the chosen novels of Charles Dickens. Its aim is to show that there are some typical characters and certain archetypes that repeatedly appear in Dickens's books, such as poor children draped in a destiny they cannot resist. These characters are analyzed based on Dickens's life because it is a major source of his inspiration. The first part of the thesis deals with the period in which the novels take place, the language of the characters that is often used to enliven them, and with social questions, such as life in so-called slums or the different roles of men and women in society. The second part consists of the typology itself with the focus on children characters which played an important part in Dickens's work. It also examines female characters, loyal servants, poor good guys, or criminals.

Comics of the Czech magazine Ohníček in the period of 1968-71: semiotic analysis
Řezníková, Ivana ; Šoltys, Otakar (advisor) ; Klabíková Rábová, Tereza (referee)
The topic of the thesis is the genre of comics in the Czech magazine Ohníček during the early period of normalization: the text is based on a detailed analysis of eleven comics that were published in the magazine between years 1968-71 (season 19-21). As far as the genre criteria are concerned, the analysed comics came closer to adventurous stories that were very popular in the 60/70s. At the same time, the original visual expression changed so that it was more suitable to child readers. Three of the analysed comics are comic series where the particular episodes are connected to each other by an adventurous narrative storyline. The eight others are comic strips with the narrative type of gag or fable. When examining the particular comics, the focus was on several aspects: the use of language, visual expression, story articulation and specific distinctive aspects. Differences in those aspects made the comics mutually different and deviating from the classics of genre. Both the graphic form and the story line of the analysed comics were determined by the fact that they were published in a children magazine. As results of the analysis, hero types and the resemblance of the fiction world according to the narrative type are descript and a comparison with European and American comics tradition is given.
