The City spa project is situated between a Hotel Voronez and the Svratka River on Porici street. It was designed to provide a pleasant environment for swimming, relaxation, recreation and sport. All happening is oriented inwards to internal atriums and on the island, which is located in the middle of the layout disposition among pools. There is also a cafe, shops, saunas, massage services and an outdoor pool situated on the second floor.

Reconstruction of the town spa in Malé Svatoňovice

The aim of the bachelor thesis was to prepare a documentation for building permits and a part of the documentation for the building construction on the basis of an architectural study, developed in the „AG35 – Monuments Restoration Studio“ module. The topic of the studio work was to think about the appropriate use of a listed building in the historic center of the village of Malé Svatoňovice and to create an architectural study. I have proposed the following concept. The building should serve as a municipal house, so I have concentrated the corresponding functions here: the municipal office, the ceremonial hall, the museum, doctors labs, cosmetics, the pharmacy and finally the spa, which had a long tradition here. When restoring an object, I proceed synthetically. I examine the quality and preservation of individual layers. Then I highlight the best of each one. If some layer have not been preserved, but still have had its qualities, I remind it in a new language. I think it was Tadao Ando who said, "If the genius loci is to be legible, it must be revived and provoked by inventive inputs." I combine modern with historical using timelessness.

Old - new urban spa

The object of the town's spa is currently abandoned without use, in a pitiful state. As a monument registered in the central list, it is a testimony to the modern architecture of the 20th century and is among the most famous works of the prominent architect Bohuslav Fuchs. It was built in 1930 as the winning design in the competition for new city baths. After its opening, the inhabitants of Zábrdovice and others enjoyed a pleasant and clean environment for relaxation and balneology, at a time when the backyard households were rather rarity and the prize of richer layers. For Zábrdovice as the marginal industrial part of Brno, full of robot dwellings, the Fuchs Bath facility was an attractive opportunity for rest and recreation. The operation consists of two parts - summer baths with outdoor swimming pools and facilities in the eastern wing of the building and winter baths with saunas and small pools, which in their disposition unit offered bath-room areas accessible from the central corridor. For today's society, the importance of such a city-spa operation has disappeared and the inhabitants are rather relaxed in extensive spa complexes, saunas, and so on. The main objective of the proposal is to restore the whole area and to create an attractive environment that will correspond to the current running of the city and the needs of its inhabitants, while maintaining the function of the summer spa, which still serves to revitalize it. The new use of city spas primarily builds on the original purpose of the building and also respects the needs of the city and Zábrdovice. At the present time, there is a considerable lack of opportunities for sports, recreation and cultural activities. The main objective of the proposal is to restore the whole area and to create an attractive environment that will correspond to the current running of the city and the needs of its inhabitants, while maintaining the function of the summer spa, which still serves to revitalize it. The new use of the city spa primarily involves the original purpose of the building and also respects the needs of the town and Zábrdovice. At the present time, there is a considerable lack of opportunities for sports, recreation and cultural activities. The most prominent point of the project is the design of a covered swimming pool, which corresponds to the current needs of the city and at the same time creates space for the operation of the winter baths, which is thus moved from the main building and no longer bothers the building. The new building of the swimming pool composes the construction of the complex, smoothly and not disturbing it. Its construction system is based on existing structural axes, as well as the division of facades and interior dispositions. The mass and shape of the new building respects the original functionalist architecture, but it also adds to the fresh modern touch. The aim is to aesthetically make a stay in the area aesthetically pleasing. Likewise, the material solution strives to create a fine contrast between old and new on the one hand and material harmony of the entire architectural composition on the other.

New City Baths in Brno The form follows its program and location. Mutual shift of both buildings creates garden's intimate atmosphere. Baths and winter garden are situated in building's upper part, services like hairdresser's, cosmetics and restaurants are available on the ground floor. Car parking lot is underground.

The main subject of this bachelor thesis was the reconstruction of the Public Spa by architect Bohuslav Fuchs. The solved object and territory is located in a built up area of the Brno-Zábrdovice district. In the framework of the bachelor's thesis there were elaborated studies of the restoration of the area and building of the Public Spa as well as an urban study for the adjacent area - the area of Zbrojovka Brno.

Reconstruction of the town spa in Male Svatonovice

The bachelor's thesis follows up on the architectural study created by me in the third year of the academic year 2019/2020 within the subject AG035 - Studio of Architectural Creation V - Restoration of Monuments. The content of this bachelor's thesis is the elaboration of a study to the level of documentation for a building permit and part of the documentation for the construction. The solved building was built in the first half of the 18th century. In 1930, a fire broke out in the village, including the town spa. The whole truss burned down, leaving only the perimeter walls. After 6 years of reconstruction, the building reopened to the public. There was a spa, hotel and inn. At present, there are doctors' surgeries, social flats, the Čapek Brothers Museum, public toilets, and a ceremonial hall. The main intention was to restore the late Baroque appearance of the building. The biggest construction intervention will be the removal of the third floor and the removal of the false mansard roof. It will be replaced by a hipped roof with a residential attic, as it was originally. Removing the existing roof structure will reduce the number of storyes, but the height of the building will remain almost the same. The new roof shape is hipped with a purlin truss system. All the original brickwork of the load-bearing interior and perimeter walls will be preserved. More modern extensions from the rear of the building and the internal partition will also be removed. The layout will be adjusted according to the function of the part of the building. Division of functional parts into city spas and short-term accommodation, Museum of the Čapek Brothers, ceremonial hall and part reserved for doctors. The external expression of the building dates back to the late Baroque period, according to historical photographs and postcards. What does a "spa" mean in the city of today? City full of movement and noise, the world controlled by an active life, employers and companys? It is not like lazy English seaside resorts, it´s not Austrian headwaters, not pleasing glossy aqua at all. "Urban Spa" is daily part of life of every active person. It´s offering regeneration of body and soul, habituating people to doing regular exercises and live a healthy life, creating intimate atmosphere for informal business meetings and for natural development of personal relationships.

Main task was to create architectural design of city wellness building. Building is situatec beetween hotel Voroněž and the river Svratka. Building contains entrance space, swimming pools, changing rooms, rest room, service space. Sauna, massage, fittness, restaurant is also part of building. Structure respond to several fenomens- car transport system, style of hotel Voroněž, urban situation-relationship beetween city and river. Shape of mass was inspired by elements of deconstructivism style. Building construction is created by reinforced concrete frame, non-bearing part of walls is wooden frame. The detail of city wellness building is included in low-energy standard. Technical equipment is based on modern trends and technologies.
