El Hamoui, Myrna ; Malcová, Zuzana (advisor) ; Matějková, Iva (referee)
The focus of this paper is set on the issue of integration through the possibility of the state financing the cultural activities of these third world nationals and answers the question, whether this form of integration is prioritised by the state. The aim of this thesis is to present and analyse the social and cultural activities of Lebanese citizens permanently residing in Czech Republic. and henceforth examines the representation of Lebanese culture and history through the endeavours of associated non-profit clubs and societies. In the next section, the thesis concentrates on an organisation led by Lebanese citizens, the Lebanese Club of Czech Republic. In this segment, the paper scrutinizes and evaluates the association's significance and its general efficacy in the bridging of differences between the two cultures, a prerequisite for successful integration of minorities. The concluding section assembles the acquired information and formulates possible advancements for the future functioning of the society itself, as well as potential sources for the financing of its projects.

Hurych, Vladimír ; Daniel, Jan (advisor) ; Střítecký, Vít (referee)
This bachelor thesis is concerned with the evolution of relations between Hezbollah and UNIFIL from the end of the Lebanese civil war. The first chapter deals with the impact of the civil war on the movement Hezbollah and the so-called process of lebanonisation characterized by a transformation from a terrorist to a political movement. After that I cope with the UNIFIL mission, its deployment in Lebanon and its mandate that was redefined in 2006. In the third part, I focus on the first relations between Hezbollah and UNIFIL after the end of the civil war, the change of the leadership, the process of lebanonisation and the presence of the IDF in Lebanon. Fourth chapter aims at describing the relationship after year 2000 and future cooperation of the movement with the mission. The following chapter deals with the alteration of the mission's mandate after 2006 and the impact on the relationship with Hezbollah. On one hand, this was the period when both actors carried out pragmatic cooperation but on the other hand, several occasional incidents took place between Hezbollah and UNIFIL. Therefore I focus on analyzing the events and possibilities of future mutual relationship.
Consociational theory - Libanon case study
Coufal, Ondřej ; Říchová, Blanka (advisor) ; Gelnarová, Jitka (referee)
This bachelor thesis deals with contribution of Consociational theory for Lebanon in 1943 till 1975 and during a follow-up state's reconstruction in 1989 after a civil war. In 1943 Lebanon becomes an independent state for the first time and its political system contained Consociational principles described by Netherland's political scientist Arend Lijphart. Those were present in order to keep the system stable despite wide religious fragmentation which was the Lebanon's case. The possibility of taking part in political decision making had all of the relevant groups. Institutional organization matched the basic Consociational conditions but the society was divided ideologically and socially. Arab nationals appeared among the Muslims whilst the Christians rather advanced the Lebanese nationalism. Problems were also brought together with a bad socioeconomic situation which was mostly a disadvantage for Muslims. Already a situation this difficult was intensified by a long-termed Arab-Israeli conflict and the Palestinian migration in Lebanon going along with it. The aim of this thesis is to find out how the elites dealt with such a difficult situation in 1943 till 1975 then to evaluate the presence of Consociational principles and their contribution.
The framing of conflicts in the middle east of czech media
Lusková, Kristína ; Nečas, Vlastimil (advisor) ; Křeček, Jan (referee)
The thesis "Framing of the conflict in the Middle East in Czech Daily Newspapers" explores how Czech print media report on the conflict in the Middle East through the analysis of Mladá fronta Dnes and Právo news coverage of the Second Lebanon War (2006) and the Gaza war (2008- 2009). The theoretical part of the thesis deals with the role of the media in times of war and focuses mainly on the popular even though somewhat fragmented concept of media framing, which became the basis for the analysis of the above mentioned newspapers. The research draws on the extensive literature on media framing as well as foreign research on framing of the Arab- Israeli conflict, combining quantitative and qualitative analytical tools. The aim of the quantitative part of the analysis was to obtain hitherto missing data about the framing of the conflict in the Middle East by Czech media that could be compared to similar data that are already available for foreign media. Quantitative analysis also focused on news sources and topics used while referring about the Middle East conflict. The purpose of the qualitative analysis was to gain a deeper insight into the problem and generate a list of specific frames used to interpret the conflict in the Middle East by Czech print media.

Iran and Saudi Arabia as regional powers in the Middle East
Kartalová, Petra ; Karásek, Tomáš (advisor) ; Střítecký, Vít (referee)
This diploma thesis deals with the relationship between two regional powers in the Middle East - Iran and Saudi Arabia. Middle East is a conflict-prone region with a delicate balance of power. We work with the assumption that a specific combination of internal and external factors caused the rise of Iran as a regional power. The balance of power in the Middle East has thus changed and Iran has started to pose a threat to Saudi Arabia that needs to be balanced. First, we analyze the theoretical concepts of power and region in international relations and subsequently we propose a definition of a regional power. The theory of balance of threat by Stephen M. Walt is used as a framework for the analysis of the Iranian threat. Last chapter of this thesis is devoted to three case studies. Here, we analytically describe particular examples of Iranian threat and its balancing by Saudi Arabia in Bahrain, Yemen and Lebanon.
Negotiation of the "West" in Everyday Life of a Lebanese Family
Obeidová, Dina ; Zandlová, Markéta (advisor) ; Ezzeddine, Petra (referee)
Thesis Negotiation of "the West" in everyday Life of a Lebanese Family is focusing on the ways of designing the image of "the West" at a chosen Lebanese family, especially those members who do not have any direct "West" experience and their images of it are based on the information obtained from those who live there or from media. Research was conducted in Qalamoun city in northern Lebanon by the method of participant observation and unstructured interview. One of the central moments of the research was reflexivity. The research is based on theories of transnationalism and the concept of social networks. One of the primary identification and classfication of man is in Qalamoun his religion. A person, who believes in nothing is a threat in the sense that he is unpredictible (he has no clear governing rules). Keywords: Lebanon, orientalism, reflexivity, "western" culture

The national security system of the Republic of Lebanon
Kužvart, Jan ; Gombár, Eduard (advisor) ; Karásek, Tomáš (referee)
Národní bezpečnostní systém v Libanonu Jan Kužvart Abstract Diploma thesis "The National Security System of the Republic of Lebanon" (the LSS) deals with the system which keeps order and stability in Lebanon. The thesis also focuses on the possibility of its reform (i.e. security sector reform, SSR). The LSS contains army and other various security apparatus institutions and superior control bodies. It also includes external actors who are participating in SSR (for example the EU and the USA) or actors who are helping the Lebanese state to maintain security inside of its territory (e.g. UNIFIL). The LSS has strong normative dimension as well. It comprehends the unwritten rules of the game, the Lebanese foreign relations and fundamental Lebanese constitutional documents. The thesis delineates objects which the LSS is supposed to protect (i.e. Lebanon and its citizens) and threats which the LSS faces.
