This diploma thesis deals with the analysis of agricultural commodity exports from South Africa. The theoretical part of the work is based on a search of literature and current articles that are relevant to the topic. South African agriculture is characterized here from the point of view of production and subsequently from the point of view of exports. Agrarian exports and their annual output are affected by a number of factors such as natural conditions, agricultural input prices, weather fluctuations, political instability in the world or a global pandemic. All the mentioned influences are explained in individual chapters. These determinants then form changes in the long-term trend in the value of exported goods, which is the focus of the analytical part of the work. The agricultural nature of the work is thus connected with the statistical analysis. In the analytical part, a time series method is developed, which captures and explains the relationships between trends and fluctuations.

Quotas in politics as a way to obtain equality between the sexes?

The main purpose of this text is to answer a question whether quotas in politics create conditions for obtaining equality between the sexes. Women's consistent underrepresentation in legislatures constitutes a democratic deficit and quotas are suggested as a possible means of attaining women's equal participation in political decision-making. Arguments for and against quotas will be showed. Quotas are aligned with several concepts - a politics of presence, descriptive representation and differentiated citizenship. It will be also explained why the unequal distribution of the unpaid labor of the family is a major obstacle for women to gain equality in politics. It will be described what types of quotas are actually applied, what are the effects of gender quotas in terms of numbers as well as the empowerment of women and under what conditions are women politicians able to make use of their positions as elected politicians. Attention will be paid to some years of experience with the implementation of quotas in Africa, whether the inclusion of women in politics furthers democratization and interests of women. South Africa will be showed as a country in which gender quotas are applied with success. In contrast negative effects of quotas in certain political system and context will be pointed out.

Comparation of legislation of National Parks in the Czech Republic and the Republic of South Africa

1 Abstract The thesis whose subject is Comparation of legislation of National Parks in the Czech Republic and the Republic of South Africa deals In detail with the legislation of national parks, especially in comparison of the Czech legal system and the legal system of South Africa, but also with the international law and European Union law. The aim is mainly to analyze in detail the individual instruments and institutions that govern the environmental law in relation to national parks and to acquaint the readers with scope of nature conversation in Europe and Africa. The thesis also serves and explains the basic terms related to the territorial regulation of national parks and protected areas (prior to national parks) on both continents. National parks are the most important type of protected area; they are declare by the state and in the scope of nature conversation national parks are the most crucial mean of conversation. The regulation of national parks is embodied in the laws of individual states; in the Czech Republic it is the Act on the protection of nature and landscape of 1992 while in South Africa it is the Protected Areas Act of 2003. In general, however, the national legislation is very influenced by international treaties and by the international organizations whose influence is still growing....

The impact of HIV/AIDS on reproductive behaviour in South Africa

The main aim of this thesis is to analyse the impact of HIV/AIDS on the reproductive behaviour of population of South Africa, its four racial groups and its nine provinces since the half of 1980's. Before the analysis of the impact of HIV/AIDS on reproductive behaviour was made, it was shown how big the problem of HIV/AIDS is in South Africa. The HIV incidence and prevalence were used for this purpose. The impact of HIV/AIDS was noticeable from the comparison of levels of fertility between HIV positive and negative women. The impact of HIV/AIDS on reproductive behaviour was further assessed using the decomposition methods and the statistical and epidemiological indicator called population attributable change. The results of analyses revealed the exceptional position of South Africa between other African countries that suffer from HIV/AIDS as well. A regression analysis showed that the growing prevalence of HIV increases the overall level of fertility. At the end of the thesis the projection of fertility till 2030 was made to illustrate the theoretical development of fertility provided that nobody become infected with HIV since the beginning of 2010.

The Politicization of Sexuality in South Africa

1 Abstract This diploma thesis deals with the topic of politicization of sexuality in South Africa in relation to sexual violence against children. Using qualitative content analysis the paper examines, how the "baby rape" phenomenon is described in South African media production and how it relates to the new democracy in the post-apartheid South Africa. Likewise, attention is paid to the issue of virginity testing, which is interpreted as a reaction to the "moral crisis" of the newly formed democratic nation. The examined issue is viewed in the wider context of social relations, therefore using an intersectional approach. The analytical aspect of the analysis includes the categories of race, gender, and sexuality. The intersectional concept analyzes the role of media representation in designing individual social categories and thus strengthening certain forms of oppression. The theoretical background of the work is based on black feminism and the Stanley Cohen's theory of moral panic. With analysing media representation it is examined the way the gender, sexuality, and race are studied and represented in order to answer the thesis question of how Western discourse intersects through these analytical categories. South Africa through the eyes of travel programs of Ceska televize

The Thesis focuses on the travelling programs of the Česká televize that are describing South Africa in its medial content. The key are the means of showing and presenting to its spectators this exotic detination as a turistic target and if there is a wider context of social and political struggles provided next to the given information. Semiotic analysis was chosen for the research, where 13 episodes of the travelling documents were included. This type of analysis enabled us to focus on a large amount of the information comming from both visual and audial content of each episode. During the first phase of analysis it waas described what was included in the episode where the second step was to assign a conotative meaning to identified features. The outcome of the analysis was a creation of a few categories where a different strategy of the specific travelling programs is compared. They are for example the approach to the stereotypes, the artistic form including the choice of the program's main guide, parasocial interaction, to which extent they use the etnocentricity or the internal hypertextuality. The Rhethoric of Justification of Political Parties in South Africa

The aim of the bachelor thesis is mainly to make an analysis of political speeches and oficial documents of two South African political parties, National Party and Economic Freedom Fighters, with a discoursive analysis as a methodology. The focus of the thesis is on the discourse of justification which concentrates on justification of own existence and claim on representation. This claim on representation is then analysed with regards to a declared group which the party claims to represent and to which, at least, these politics are supposed to serve. The part of the analysis is also a matter of consistence of the rhetoric.

Productivity of environment and colouration of South African birds

Understanding the relationships between species traits and the environment is essential for assessment of functional diversity. The variation in avian plumage colouration has attracted much scientific attention for a long time. It is thought that the colouration of birds is a product of interaction between environmental and sexual selection forces. Using two complementary three-matrix approaches (fourth-corner and RLQ analyses) I investigate geographical variation in plumage colouration of birds living along environmental gradient of productivity in South Africa. I suppose that productivity of environment could explain the part of variation in colouration of species at large geographical scales. I compiled information about 14 plumage traits for 649 species. Co- inertia analysis revealed that more vari-coloured species (e.g. with more saturated and vivid plumage), species with carotenoids in feather, blue-green or predominantly black species occur mainly in productive habitats such as moist savannas and woodlands in the north-east of the country. On the contrary pale species (e.g. greyishbrown), whose feathers are brighter (have higher values of brightness), occupy arid habitats in the west. Causes of diversity in the Cape Floristic Region

The Cape Floristic Region (Capensis) is the smallest phytogeographical kingdom in the world with an area about 90,000 kmš (or 190,000 kmš if the succulent karoo is included). However, thanks to the subtropical climate influenced by the cold Benguel current and the isolated location behind the ridges of the Cape Mountains, it is characterized by an extremely diverse flora. There are about 11,000 species of plants, of which 79% are endemic. The Cape region shares many characteristics with other Mediterranean areas, but in many ways it is a unique environment. In this bachelor's thesis, the Cape flora is set in a global context and compared with other Mediterranean areas. Geological development, floristic and vegetation composition are described. The work also contains summarised information about the possible causes of high plant diversity and endemism of the Cape region.
