Circumstances and Demandingness of Traveling in the Time of Jesus: An Analysis of Three Jesus' Journeys

This thesis deals to analyze the three well-known Jesus Christ's routes which are mentioned in the Gospels of the New Testament. The first part of the thesis there is a historical description of the person of Jesus Christ and his humanity. The second part contains a description of selected ways of the Jesus Christ' life. That is an escape to Egypt before Herod the Great. The next one describes the route from Jerusalem via Nazareth to Capernaum. The author of this thesis did a comparison of this path due to the different interpretation of the evangelists. The last chosen path is closing the Jesus' earthly life. It is a stretch of road from the Last Supper to Golgotha hill. The bachelor thesis tries to describe these routes from the physical-geographic difficulty at the time of writing the New Testament. The conclusion of this thesis contains a comparison of the results with the data contained in the New Testament. From the Law comes Slavery, from the Gospel Freedom (Gal 4:21-31)

The aim of the thesis "From the Law comes Slavery, from the Gospel Freedom: Galatians 4:21-31" is to provide a comprehensive interpretation of the allegorical pericope about Hagar and Sarah as representatives of two different covenants (Gal 4:21-31) in relation to the overall context and the theological message of Paul's letter. The introductory chapter deals generally with the letter of the apostle Paul to the Galatians with regard to its origin, reason and place of writing, addressees, key theological emphases and structure. The core part of this work is the linguistic and literary analysis of the above- mentioned pericope, including exegesis. This chapter takes a closer look at the rhetorical aspects and tools that Paul uses in the epistle, also with regard to contemporary tendencies in Judaism confronted with the Hellenistic world. It places the analysed pericope in the overall context of the letter to the Galatians and further reflects the intertextual dimension of the use of the story from the book of Genesis, including a direct quotation (Gn 21:10) and a reference to the book of the prophet Isaiah (Is 54:1). The meaning of the pericope is clarified by the immediately following verse (Gal 5:1), which is the key to its correct reading based on the Christian's freedom in Christ.

Saladin and Richard the Lion-Heart - what divides and what unites them

The third crusade could be likened to a chess game, taking place between the English King Richard I and the Muslim Sultan Saladin. The game that eventually ended in stalemate because neither Richard nor Saladin were able to gain an advantage over his opponent, which would lead to the final turn. The attitudes of both men were very different and this is obviously reflected in their ruling and military capabilities. The question which therefore arises is, how were Richard I and Saladin linked? The answer is simple. The King of England and the Muslim Sultan were on a larger scale linked with a right to the Holy Land and in the narrow scale to Jerusalem. If we try to understand Saladin and Richard we must focus on the period in which they lived, the situation in the Holy Land and minds of Christians and Muslims. This goal is also subject to the methodology of the work, descriptive method with contextual analysis and structure of the thesis were chosen.

The Kingdom of Acre

The main topic of the thesis is basic problems of the Kingdom of Acre from 1187 to 1291. The first part briefly outlines the situation in Palestine during the First crusade, founding of Kingdom of Jerusalem, the increase of its importance and prestige in the political situation of the Middle East. Chapter ends with a fatal battle of Hattin. The second chapter, which is the main part of the whole work, is dedicated to restoring the kingdom during the Third crusade, internal struggles between the political factions , the resistance of the nobility against the centralized royal power, pursue of keeping the occupied territories and the problems that led to the downfall of the Kingdom by the conquest of the capital city of Acre in 1291. In this chapter I also want to present historical figures which have the historical influence on development of the Holy Land. Tomáš Weiss, M.A., Ph.D. Abstract The question of the different attitudes towards Jerusalem and the historical relationship with Israel between the Czech Republic and Slovakia seems to be primarily a question of stabilization and destabilization of power (and differently applied ideological control) of communist Czechoslovakia of 1948-1989, with the radical break with in 1989, resp. after its division in 1992 into two successor states. The main goal of this thesis was to compare these attitudes using methods and approaches of historical institutionalism. The way in which the institutional environment for foreign policy-making was set up at the beginning of the 1990s in the form of a commitment to continuity with Czechoslovak foreign policy after 1992.
